Quick response to a middle of the night query. Increasingly bothersome flickering of light fixtures, turning into occasional loss of power to lights and appliances without reason or provocation in two or three circuits without tripping breakers, until a "Poltergeist" type light and sound show at 2 am. Did some DIY run through internet sites and thought better. Discovered Thumbtack by chance and gave a try. Received three responses of interest, liked the reviews and understood the nature of the few negative ones too. Particularly drawn to the fact AJ was a local professional who was still in town! First visit was to trouble shoot. But knowing the neighborhood and building stock and electrical profile, he described and diagramed what he believed was the ultimate problem and solution, replacing at sometime in the near future the aging, original main subpanel with old pushmatic breakers and questionable wiring. But rather than spend unnecessary hours on the clock to further troubleshoot, he proposed replacing two questionable breakers and tightening some clearly scarred contacts, to see if that improved the situation and gave us time to plan what we agreed was a necessary upgrade down the road. He did the work swiftly and efficiently. The performance was improved marginally over the next few days but it was clear that it didn't make sense to wait on the new subpanel. We set up a time. He credited his past work and gave us a reasonable bid. He came as scheduled and when we went behind the panel, everything he originally suspected was there. He installed the panel and wiring in the six hours he projected at the start of the day. AJ was direct, straightforward, cordial and friendly. A teacher and tradesman, he took me through the electrical mechanics of it and was transparent in his dealings. I appreciated the respectful and mature approach, while being personable. It is now over 5 days since the work was done and we haven't a flicker of a doubt that we are safer and sounder now. As smooth an operation and recovery as I could have expected.
