Introduction: Hi there! My name is Andrea Desmond, I've been teaching for over 9 years, and I am a piano/vocal/songwriting teacher with a full time private virtual private practice. It started out in the South Bay of Los Angeles, but with the Covid lockdown all my lessons have turned virtual with quite success! Now I can teach anyone, everywhere. :)
I have a modern and fun approach to learning! I run yearly recitals virtual recitals, and used to run recitals at Manhattan Beach Studios. My virtual lessons even have recording capabilities, so my students get to write and record their own music. I also make my students (if they want) their own personalized music websites. Feel free to reach out for more details!
I have a Bachelors Degree in Music with Honors from CSU Chico. I attended Emerson College in the Honors Program for Scholarship in Boston before finishing out my music degree in Chico, CA. During this time, received training in songwriting from my cousin Alan Menken, composer of Disney Classics such as Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Proceeding college, I was in a successful cover band as a keyboardist/singer, and I also launched my own career as an original artist. I started off teaching at the School of Rock in Chico, then Seattle, and then transferred as I moved around Los Angeles to School of Rock Redondo, Burbank, and finally Fairfax full time.
I was Senior Instructor (overseeing the other instructors) and Show Director at the School of Rock Fairfax. I also specialize in teaching Songwriting. This skill came from a unique set of experiences in the teaching-world. I helped to create the first-ever Songwriting Program at the School of Rock in Seattle. I also have been a band director at the Collective Sound Summer Music Academy for two years, where I coached students to write their own songs and play together, record, and tour as a band. Continuing on my journey towards refining the art of teaching songwriting, I ran the first-ever Songwriting Camp at the School of Rock Fairfax as well. Songwriting is an exciting and creative outlet that anyone can try - my goal for anyone interested in Songwriting is to help students gain the experience no matter what their background is in music or writing!
Then I worked at the Manhattan and Redondo School of Dance and Music and moved to El Segundo - I had always said I "left my heart in Manhattan Beach", and it had a calling for me to come settle in there. Now have transitioned into becoming a fully private practice in the South Bay Area! I love what I do and I love my students. :)
