FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began to teach incoming freshman while pursuing my bachelor of arts degree in music in college. After graduation I toured the United States and Europe with a variety of bands and orchestras performing, but always felt as if I were missing that special connection in life. It wasn't until I met my wife, concert violinist Bonnie Willson, that I decided to settle down and teach as a profession, while still performing in the evenings and weekends. It was the best move I ever made. I now find total satisfaction in my choice of careers and lifestyle.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
As I mentioned before I take great pride in helping students to prepare for a life in music, either as professional performer or part time weekend musician. I work one on one with students of all ages to prepare, enter, and succeed in school, church, community, or professional level bands and orchestras.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
According to the Sacramento Youth Symphony, professional music teachers charge a range of $50 - $100 per hour for private lessons. Don't study at music stores, with high school or college students, or with teachers that offer discounted prices. Choose a full time working professional that offers private one-on-one lessons from their home or private music studio. In the long run your lessons may cost a few dollars more, but you will be far better prepared to succeed in a very competitive field.
