Michael was awesome and came to install 6 ceiling light fans. Our home was prewired in each room and we bought fans/lights from home depot. Michael and his coworker showed up promptly on time and they were here for 5 hours working continuously. They tested all the switches to ensure that everything was working correctly. I was thoroughly impressed by his professionalism and efficiency. I would highly recommend him again in the future and we plan to use him too again. Thanks!

After I purchased a new disposal from Home Depot, the installer told me he couldn't install because it was too clogged etc. Dennis came and took care of it fast & for less than the Home Depot installation charge.

Bogdan was a gift. He and his team installed ~2000 SQft of Bamboo Hardwood floors, a marble entry way, tile floor in the laundry room and bath, built a tile shower from scratch, matched and installed granite in a half bath and full guest bath, and repaired several small but important plumbing issues along the way. Bogdan was respectful and considerate of our priorities. He worked with us with patience, always checking in to make sure we were happy with the choices and installation. For example, he was able to create a seamless transition between the tile and hardwood and marble that made a big difference in how the flooring flows- no tripping on t-moulding ! I would happily recommend Bogdan for home improvement projects.

I just had the interior painting of our home completed by Osbaldo. There was also removal of wallpaper and the installation of crown molding in three rooms. Osbaldo went above and beyond to complete my project and did a wonderful job making our home look beautiful! In fact, we have already given Osbaldo another reference!

I had a sail shade project that I wanted to complete with 3 posts and 3 hooks connected to the house. I contacted Daryl and he was more than happy to help me and was well within my budget. Daryl was a true professional and new what he was doing. He even helped me transport supplies for the project from Home Depot. He offered great advice and suggestions on things I had questions and wasn’t sure about. He was very punctual, courteous, and a true professional. I’m happy I hired him to do my project and will definitely consider him for any other future projects that I’ll need help with. Thank you Daryl!!

Hunter did an amazing job hooking up my 75inch in my new theater room. He ran everything in the wall and was able to make everything look so clean. He also did some adjustments to my sound system and it has never sounded better! I guess I had been using the wrong settings when watching TV. Very knowledgeable and skilled at what he does. Even left a cheat-sheet in case someone accidently changes the settings again.

Responded with record speed to fix and paint areas of my home to meet a tight funding timeline for a VA loan. Completed the work in a single day and fixed and painted other places he recognized needed attention at no extra cost. Charges for the superb workmanship came in at less than 50% of what another less responsive contractor bid the job. He's at the top of my list for future work and I highly recommend this personable, incredibly competent professional for others.

They were so completely wonderful and professional. They met me at IKEA to get my cumbersome bed. They assembled part of it at their location and then showed up the next day to put together the pre-assembled pieces. That made it really convenient for me in my small house and kept it quiet as well. They were so friendly, kept to their times we had established, and professional every step of the way. I look forward to using them for other building/handyman/etc tasks at both my home and my business. Highly recommended!

Jacob and Alex were excellent. They expertly put up three wired ring cameras and a ring doorbell in our old home with crazy electrical wiring. They thought creatively as to how to place the cameras given our odd house geometry, sight lines, and lack of attic space to pull wires. Jacob actually convinced us to go with a less expensive install. He is trustworthy and his pricing is clear. A strong recommendation.

We sought several online quotes for having our TVs mounted in our new home. Digital Living seemed to be the most qualified, and offered a great price, at $95 for the one TV (their hourly rate), mounted on our rock fireplace in the backyard (that was clearly laid out in the quote request). We asked him to come out and see the fireplace and the other area where we wanted a second TV mounted, to give us an accurate quote. While Dave was here in person, he saw the fireplace and the family room area, and we discussed adding a sound bar to the fireplace. He said the family room mount and sound bar would be super easy and quick, so with his original quote for the stone fireplace mount at $95, I asked him if he thought it would be about an hour and a half altogether, and he said yes, 1.5-2 hours should do it all. His guy came out, and did good work. I can't complain about the quality of the work at all - but it took him 6 hours. Instead of getting a $200 bill, I got a $570 bill. When I complained, Dave claimed that he quoted me 1.5 - 2 hours per TV. That is not true. His original online quote for the most complicated piece of the whole operation (the stone fireplace) was for $95 - one hour. We added what he described as 'easy' things that would make the entire job take no more than 1.5-2 hours total. He said he would take one hour off because I was dissatisfied with the final price. That is still more than double what he quoted me after looking at the job in person. I've emailed him twice since then and he has stopped responding to me. I would never have agreed to have them do the work if he had quoted me 6 hours at $95/hour (or anything close to it). We had others offering to do it for $150 for the whole job, but he seemed to be more reliable and skilled, so we chose him, assuming it would be a little more expensive - maybe another $50-$100 in the end. But the guy he had do the job was incredibly slow. We should not be stuck paying for his slow employee. And I find the whole process of quoting one price and billing more than double that to be completely unethical.

He was a life saver to me and my handicapped husband. He showed up on time and immediately found the problem and fixed it on the spot. His price was very far. Not only did he get us out of a pickle but also went to our friends home and fixed theirs air conditioner when 2 other places couldn’t find anything wrong with HVAC system. Call him, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Andrew

We had an excellent home theater installation experience with Garcia Installation. They recently installed our 4 tv's in our new home in Royal Oaks and we couldn't be happier. The installers showed up on time. Listened to what we wanted and gave some excellent recommendations for proper installation. The installers cleaned up very nicely after concealing all our wires in the walls as well and the price for installation was very reasonable too. Thank you guys again. CJ and Jose the technichian installers did a wonderful job and we will definitely use your service again in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

  • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
  • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
  • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
  • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
  • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
  • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

How much does it cost for surround sound installation?

If you’re installing your dream home theater, you want the perfect sound system to round it out. The cost for surround sound installation will vary based on the speaker system you select, the amount of wiring and prep required for the job, and labor rates in your region. Home theater installation specialists can advise on the best surround sound speakers for your space and the technology you are using. Here are some examples of average home theater installation costs and the cost of surround sound speakers:

  • TV wall mount and up to 5 wall-mounted speakers with hidden wires: $399.
  • 60-inch TV and small home system: $2,080.
    • Equipment cost: $1,680.
      • Five box speakers and subwoofer: $500.
      • Three HDMI wires: $30.
      • Surround amp: $250.
      • 60-inch TV and bracket: $900.
      • Labor cost: $400 Including setup, wiring and TV mounting.
  • Projector and screen system plus audio wiring throughout home: $12,900.
    • Equipment cost: $9,900.
      • Approximate wire costs: $2,700.
      • Projector and bracket: $1,500.
      • 110-inch screen: $600.
      • Surround amp: $500.

      • Remote control system: $400.
      • Eight zones of speakers and volume controls: $2,800 ($350 each)
      • Labor cost: $3,000. Includes prewiring for 5-inch ceiling speakers, one subwoofer, one 20-inch to 50-inch HDMI, Cat. 6 control wire to projector, 1.5-inch tube for future wire changes, and wiring for two to eight additional audio zones throughout the home. All equipment (audio boxes, amps, cable box, etc.) is concealed. The audio zones are controllable by iOS devices from anywhere in the home.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.
