My husband and I got married on 5/14/16 and initially we weren't going to hire a videographer (dumb). And after deliberating the pros and cons we finally decided on hiring one. The obvious one, Jason. After looking at his reviews and his profile it was easy to see that he was capable of providing what we desired and then some for our special event. After making contact and meeting Jason we knew right away we had made the right decision on hiring a videographer and felt so confident knowing he was beyond experienced and knowledgeable of his craft. The day of the wedding, in every aspect, he displayed professionalism from arriving on time (even a little earlier), communicating with us and other vendors, and even down to his own attire. From point A to point Z Jason was the professional to get us there in our videography experience. Thanks Jason! We'll be referring everyone who wants the best quality work in film and videography! -Chris & Christine

In this day in age it is crucial for businesses to not only get their message out quickly, but to captivate and motivate action with their audience. Consumers are bombarded with communications and advertisements all day long. Often times we aren’t even aware of these messages because we have become so accustomed to constant media contact. If your business is going to stand out from the rest of the noise your customers face on a daily basis, you need an effective communication tool. That tool, is a video created by Louie Stevens. Louie Stevens, owner and founder of Films You Feel, lives up to what his company’s name suggests. He doesn’t just throw a few scenes together from a video filmed on an iPhone, add music, and call it a day. Louie creates a professional, broadcast quality video that is guaranteed to capture audiences and promote your company’s message. Louie does more than just film and edit. When we created our video, Louie wrote the script, provided coaching, directed, filmed, and edited, everything. He literally went above and beyond and made the video come alive. I encourage every business, big or small, to contact Louie for a film consolation. You will be amazed with his quality of work and professionalism, all at an affordable rate. Guaranteed that we will be using Louie for all of our future video marketing needs. Dustin Hardin Co-Founder & Creator www.iCampSavvy.com

I cannot say enough good things about hiring palo to film my wedding. They are absolutely top notch!! I would highly recommend them to anyone considering filming your wedding. From the very beginning palo was so fantastic to work with. I work in television and was very particular and what I wanted for my video and song and they easily accommodated everything I wanted. The day of my wedding they were so sweet and easy to work with, I didn't even notice they were there most of the time. When our video arrived I was floored!! It was shot so beautifully and the editing was perfect, I couldn't have asked for more. And the fact that you get all the raw footage allows you to look back and watch moments from the day I didn't remember even happened. As someone who works in production myself I had very high expectations and palo exceeded them and more!!!

Gemini Photography was absolutely phenomenal. I hired them for our wedding video as well as their photo booth services. They arrived on time and began filming immediately and seamlessly. I wanted so badly to go introduce myself, but they understood the craziness of the day and blended into the surroundings as they worked. The team is so friendly and professional--they feel immediately like people you have known forever. The photo booth was an extremely reasonable price and my friends and family were fighting over it all night! We immediately got a copy of the photos at the end of the night which was really fun to look through the day after the wedding. The video trailer and full-length version came to us in an EXTREMELY timely manner. I mean, my husband is a film editor...it takes TIME and they got it to us so quickly--just in time to share with family for Christmas. I would highly recommend them and would consider them for my (hopefully future) siblings' weddings. They're wonderful!

I hired Urreola Film Weddings for my wedding that took place on March 5, 2016. I hired Raul and Christie for their true love package that included both photos and video. I have to say that booking them was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding day. They, first of all are very professional and very considerate to mine and my husbands needs. They captured every moment I could have possibly wanted and more! I wasn't aware of how much of the day I missed until I received my photos and video.(which I got in less than a month!)They also made my bridal party feel comfortable in front of the camera as well as my guests. Raul is hilarious! He definitely got us laughing which made the footage look so great! Christie is really a really sweet and fun person! I love having her there to capture all of the intimate parts as well as the details. I am so happy that they were there so make my day complete and now my husband and I have something to look back on and cherish for the rest of our lives.

Anthony did a terrific job with a series of short fresh videos for our website. He filmed one meeting and worked with film we provided from two other meetings. He also did my New professional headshot photo which I love. Anthony understands our energetic brand and added a number of creative touches to bring that energy into the videos. We appreciate his work and will continue to use his services. We will also happily recommend him to others!

I have worked with David Pena on a few different projects and can definitely vouch for his skills. We have done drone shots, set up a camera to the hood of my car, action shots, recorded voice-overs, interviews, nature shots and we've worked in various lighting and I've always been more than impressed with our final cut. Dave has great talent when it comes to the post-production editing as well. His cuts are smooth, and he pays attention to continuity. I don't have much experience with acting so he's also been very helpful in directing. I will use Dave and Pena3d Video Productions for all my video production needs.

We are so grateful to Derek for his work on our massive video project, CoupleTalk. We were novices and Derek was unendingly patient with us during the week of filming on set - with 27 people involved! Many times, our inexperience caused retakes and created a need for extra editing, yet Derek was always encouraging and supportive - never critical. Many innovations in this cutting-edge program were created by Derek: our intro "bumper" (shown at the beginning of each video session), our promotional videos, the countdown clock used during couples practice times, subtitling innovations, etc. The complexity of our project was immense: multiple cameras, editing over 100 hours of video down to 15, a fully-integrated participant workbook, etc. Derek became so familiar with the program that several times he caught mistakes we should have noticed! We've sold CoupleTalk in over 27 states and 7 countries, and consistently hear praise for the video quality. Derek had the ability to take in all this massive data and produce a beautiful product that we are so proud of, and we give him our highest recommendation!

We went through the Pros for all of our services. We had Steve K. as our videographer and he was truly amazing. He captured every single moment from start to finish and even took into account the tiny details that were important to me to get on film. He had a great personality, so nice and so professional. And we got our video back the VERY next week - it was waiting in our mailbox when we got back from the honeymoon. LOVED working with Six1nine Productions in general, would absolutely recommend every single time!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
