Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: As a graduate of Berklee College of Music, I offer a strong set of musical tools in such things as music theory, harmony (chords), songwriting/composition, recording equipment and techniques, ear training and (if you like) musical notation, in addition to just how to play an instrument. What this gives you is a skill set that goes beyond just moving your fingers on the strings, and helps you understand how music works, how your instrument fits into it, and ultimately helps you teach yourself as well! The most rewarding aspect is of course to see students progress and reach their goals. The challenge is to always try to find the best way to present concepts and ideas that will help them grow their skills as quickly as possible. Often through this process, it's possible to examine the same concept from many different angles and I find for myself that having done that, I come out of the lesson knowing more about it as well!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I aim to make scheduling and pricing as flexible as possible. Generally, it is best to have a weekly lesson of either 30 minutes or an hour. Some people prefer doing one hour every other week. Standard rates are $30 for a half hour, or $50 for an hour.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

My specialty is in rock, jazz and folk styles. With these genres, most teachers take a "by ear" approach. You may find yourself learning songs simply by memorizing chord shapes or finger and fret numbers. While this is great for simply learning songs, learning more about how music works can make you a much more versatile and solid player. While I am always happy to help you down the path you choose for yourself, these additional skills and insights are something I do recommend learning and few teachers in these genres have as much training and experience teaching.
