He's very professional and extremely accommodating! He arrived early to the venue and got set up quickly, his sound was exactly what I was looking for and he definitely brought a welcoming vibe to our event. Will hire again!

Nothing could rival how beautiful the music was at our nuptials and reception. Communication leading up to and throughout the event was second to none. Gary was skillful at performing the acoustic version of "A thousand years" for us to walk down the aisle to. I would hire About Music again without hesitation for any future events. The high light of out wedding was the music. Thank you so much!

Getting an amazing band was priority numero uno for our wedding and after reading tons of reviews, I was already pretty sold on them. Once we sat down with Tiana, we were practically begging to sign a contract. We got the nine piece band for our wedding and on an epic day full of highlights, I think they take top honors. Our party simply would not have been as great without them. We weren’t really interested in doing the “traditional” wedding things – grand entrance, first dance, cake cutting, etc. and Tiana worked with us to make sure the evening was everything we envisioned, including letting the crowd dictate the flow and timeline. I think it takes an extremely professional crew who truly know their stuff to be able to take on that endeavor. They sang, they grooved, they rapped, they learned songs just for us, and they incorporated a last minute request that I made the day before the wedding. You know you have a good thing going when the oldest and youngest guests at the party are in agreement that they are “the best band ever!” But beyond the music, they are down to earth, gracious, and just seem like a fun bunch to be around – I kind of want to become a roadie now. I also know two people in the hotel business who have seen tons of weddings and they, too, think ROM is the best in the biz. If I were a bajillionaire, I would hire them to play at my house every Friday night just so I could dance by myself. Hurry up and snatch them up before they’re booked – you absolutely will not regret it.

Marcela's band Honey Rock played at our wedding 3 years ago, and we still talk about what a great evening of dancing we enjoyed! They played everything from The Stones to Michael Jackson to Adele, so there was something for everyone. Marcela even took some time to learn our special song by Van Morrison so we could have our "bride and groom first dance". We still seek out Marcela and her band on occasion and go for a night out of listening and enjoying. They're fabulous! Tim and Susi Haugh

Ron and his musicians were outstanding!! I hired them for a '40s Big Band Pary for 2 hours and did the deliver! They were very much accommodating to our residents and the staff. Very upbeat group of men who sang and danced with our residents, which made all the ladies very happy! The music was spot on and made us all feel like we really were in the 1940s. Very happy with the performance and their attitudes, absolutely one of the best!

My son Max has been taking lessons with Ed for several years now and we couldn't be happier. Ed is an awesome music teacher with many talents. His knowledge of playing in a band has been a great help for my son. Ed will jump in and play the bass line with Max if needed. I love that he can teach vocals, guitar, bass, and drums and get in there and jam with my son, too. Ed's awesome! I'd highly recommend him if you're looking for a music teacher. Terry

Groove Factory was a great band at our corporate holiday party! From the initial coordination to the day of the event, they were a pleasure to work with. Our guests enjoyed the entire evening - the music, the interaction, live karaoke, the dancing. I highly recommend them.

Biff Cooper took my son from a place where his hands didn't work well to a guitarist and bassist in local rock bands. His interest in the kids and his encouraging nature has been the best thing that ever happened to my son! Thank you, Biff, for igniting this passion for music in my son. Sincerely, Jennifer Newton

I would like to tell anyone looking for a professional and talented person, duo, or group of musicians to enhance or lead an event to look no further Bill Harris can most certainly fill the bill for you. Bill & Stephanie individually or as a duo have been and continue to entertain my clients and guests for a couple of years now. They are currently performing weekly here for me at the Old town Tequila Factory. They do a fantastic job jamming on the Steel Drums on our outside patio or moving inside to the enclosed patio for a lighter marimba and oboe sound. Bill has also taken care of our needs for our special events and on location catering functions. Bill and Stephanie have performed in period costume for us at Christmastime performing music and singing carols looking like they just stepped out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Bill has also brought in additional drummers, guitarists, and a bassist to make the band for our event at the Sheriffs Museum. They are great performers and truly great people. I always look forward to the next appearance.

Jordo makes his own music which is amazing and also plays covers! I loved having him at my venue. He can perform any song you want. I have never heard anything quite like him! He uses his loop pedals to make one guitar sound like a huge band. I can liken him to is Ed Sheeran. He is reasonably priced but there is no way he will be be able to keep his prices so low for so long. He can perform for anything. Weddings, shows, parties, and just about anything. If you call him he would love to help you out!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
