We wanted something fun, different and safe for both my daughters 16th and 13th birthday. The tattoo artist was AMAZING! I thought only the teen girls would want tattoo's but once we all saw the quality of this beautiful art, the boys & adults wanted to be tattooed as well. Everyone enjoyed getting these beautiful henna tattoos and for those few who didn't, they enjoyed watching the artist. She is truly talented. Thank you so much for making my kids birthday fun and beautiful.

I had a fantastic experience with Art By Sonie. I wanted to try out a design for a tattoo as a henna first, and she was able to help make that a reality! Highly recommend.

Beautiful work. The children loved having their face painted and Shannon was very patient... painting some children several times as they wiped it off because they wanted to try so many different faces. Shannon's work was a hit at the party!

I got a tattoo from MonsterMobile and it turned out so much better than I expected. 4 colors and shading and fine lines. The colors were bright and I had very little pain on my ankle. Hershel was super clean and friendly. We are getting more tattoos from him - next stop Hell's Kitchen.

      About

Shakti Henna is a full-service henna and mendhi temporary tattoo art provider. I have well over 10 years of experience creating custom, freehand henna designs in San Diego and beyond. I have had the privilege of working at countless street fairs, conventions, weddings, private parties, bar and bat mitzvas, fundraisers, harbor cruises, school graduation celebrations, nightclubs, restaurants, tattoo parlors, vampire balls, corporate meetings, and many other types of events. I do all of my henna designs freehand without stencils which allows me the freedom to create customized designs for each client. If you are contemplating a permanent tattoo in the future, I also offer the service of creating custom designs from your specifications to enable you to try a tattoo design out before making the long-term commitment of a permanent tattoo. I offer glitter tattoos which are very popular, because they are very quick, safe, great looking, and do not require the extra drying time that a henna tattoo requires. Glitter tattoos are bright and very colorful and last about 3-5 days when cared for properly. They are great for kids who cannot stay still long enough to allow a henna tattoo set, or a large group of people wanting to all get designs in a short amount of time. To ensure that your next party is a smash hit and your guests have a great time while being adorned and create a great memory for years to come, call and hire Shakti Henna for all your henna and temporary tattoo event services. About

Our preference at At Blue Tattoo Café is custom tattoo work. Our shop prides itself on custom tattoo designs. With each individual client, we take the time to hand draw the body art to fit the part of the body that’s going to get tattooed. We know that majority of people in this economy are on tight budgets, which is why we don’t charge for our drawing time on every custom tattoo design.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much does it cost to get a henna tattoo?

Nationally, the average cost to hire a henna artist is between $100 and $180 per hour. Rates will vary by location and the experience of the individual henna artist; it’s possible to find artists who charge less than $50 per hour. Some henna artists charge an hourly rate, especially for corporate events or festivals where they are providing service to multiple people within an hour. They may also charge flat rates for bridal and wedding services or special events. Here are some examples of average cost:

      • Hourly rate: $65-$85 or more per hour. Price is dependent on event size and number of attendees.
      • Starting rate for minimal palm designs: $15 or more.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands and wrist and bottom of feet up to the ankle: $175.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the mid-arm and feet to above the ankle: $300.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the elbow and the feet to the knee: $450.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
