Reynda was so accommodating throughout the entire process. She was able to find a second massage therapist when I asked if my boyfriend and I could have our massages done at the same time. And when our hotel room ended up being a little too cozy for 2 massage tables, she and Melanie helped us rearrange the furniture to make it work. They took care of everything. Reynda and Melanie asked if we had any problem or focus areas and how much pressure we wanted. The heated bedding, hot towels, and peppermint oil were a nice touch. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Clients should know my base rate for massage does not include parking fees. If your session is at a hotel with ONLY valet parking, the cost will be added to the price of the session.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I learned my massage techniques at NHI in Emeryville, CA, but my background in human anatomy and physiology came from UC Berkeley, where I majored in Integrative Biology. Beyond that, I'm a former three-sport athlete who learned firsthand the benefits of massage at a young age. Being so active, I was often faced with aches and pains (tears, strains, and sprains) for which traditional medicine wasn't the best treatment. Receiving massage on a frequent basis helped both with injury prevention and with rehabilitation. Finally, I've got 15 years of hands-on experience working with people from all walks of life. You pick up a few tricks over the years, and I am pleased to be able to incorporate different modalities and methods into my sessions to help clients achieve their wellness goals.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?In college, I was fully prepared to enter into medical training, going as far as taking a summer/winter position with the VA Medical Center in Long Beach California to get accustomed to working in a clinical setting. Long story short—research made me miserable. Just by chance I came across a commercial for NHI and it reminded me of my love for massage and its many benefits. The opportunity to get trained as a massage therapist in just a few short months was the siren's call to the innate healer in me. It took some work to juggle my final year of college, track practice, and massage classes, but it was definitely worth it.
