It was a pleasure working with Lawrence for my wedding in City hall San Francisco. He was very familiar with the area, and knew all the perfect spots for beautiful photos. He was calm and patient with all my guests, and with me, as I was struck with wedding-day nerves! Lawrence was with us for most of the day, taking pictures before the ceremony, during, and after. He captured all the family and friend shots we needed, and we were left with plenty of time for creative, artistic, and romantic shots as well. I didn't realize how lovely they would be until I saw them, LAwrence really has a great eye for a beautiful shot, and we will treasure the photos. Thanks so much Lawrence

Michael shot our wedding a few weeks ago, and we cannot say enough how thankful we are!!! 150 guests and shooting for 12 hours - not an easy task. He was so patient with our crazy families, and especially my mother in law.... Hopefully she doesn't see this! We hired Michael specifically for his non- wedding type photos, much like a documentary style. We wanted to stay away from the "typical" posed photos we see over and over. Another way he is different from other photographers, is that he doesn't charge individually for photos, he gives a lot more photos back at once. Our images are really out of this world. Very natural, artful, refreshing and new. Did I say gorgeous already? If you are thinking about hiring a "photographer" a real photographer.... Look no further, you've found him. Kind, professional, relaxed, unique. We will be using his services again in the near future for my parents vow renewal. Cheers Michael, thank you so much! Everyone loved you and we are constantly getting compliments on your great work.... Art!!!

DJ Stallion was very easy to work with. From the moment I put in a request on thumbtack, he was the only Dj to contact us within a week. HE in fact called me within half an hour. I explained that our wedding ceremony and reception were at two different sites, which I believed would be a stumbling block, but without hesitation agreed, and was negotiable on price based on our budget. He was very responsive to all inquiries we had, and was communicative with us even on the wedding day. He provides a blank list that you pick your music from, ( a collection of thousands) so that you know what he is going to play at certain times. He listened to our every wish, not varying from the music genres that we listed out for idle time, and lit the place up for the main dancing portion of the night, providing strobes in the evening, which laid a great backdrop for everyone against the trees. The ceremony site was pretty minimalistic with a couple of speakers, a microphone to say our vows, and an amp lead for the guitarist playing songs as we walked down the aisle. Despite some last minute logistical changes to the way the ceremony was going to be run, he rolled with the punches and took it all in his stride. On the way out, he hit the nail on the head with some Hall and Oates to mark the ceremony completion. As a former Wild 94.9 Dj, he brings expertise, class, and an open mind to help you tailor your wedding day to your specific needs.

Rob did an amazing job at my wedding for not going to any of his events to check him out and only communication over email I was ver satisfied for the amount I paid. I did have a few wedding guest that were concerned that he didn't want to play certain songs but over all they were all happy too. Mostly because he didn't play music too loud and kept the dance floor going I would definitely recommend for anyone searching for a dj :)

Eric and his assistant, Claire were so professionally unobtrusive during my daughter’s wedding event, I did not even notice they were there. The proof of their presence is in the captivating candid photos and the beautiful artistic photos that recorded the entire day. Everyone looks amazing. Eric perfectly captured the unique personalities of the bride and groom throughput the day. I was not able to meet Eric until the day of the wedding because I live overseas. I chose based upon his portfolio and online communication. What could have been a series of pretty pictures of a cookie cutter country club wedding with another photographer is instead a perfect blend of photojournalism, fine art, and traditional styles, Eric’s and Claire’s work show the very present, palpable feelings between the bride and groom. Perfect.

I hired Luvly Production’s photobooth for my parents’ wedding anniversary party, and I feel really lucky we found them. The guests had a ton of fun taking photos, and my parents now have easy access to high quality images of all their friends enjoying themselves at the party. These guys delivered, and then some - Wendy and co. were responsive and flexible throughout the booking process, showed up early for setup, left late, endured little kids running around whacking things with lightsabers, and overall were super easy to work with. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful experience with William. He was very responsive and provided about 80 shots for us to choose from from our 2 hour session. We ended up with a wonderful photo for our Save the Date, and about 10 to choose from for our wedding website. William was also very nice and helped reduce any nerves we had about being in front of the camera.

Jacqueline is the sweetest person. She came earlier than the scheduled time and we went over what I wanted. I was attending a wedding and my makeup was done so beautiful and I looked glamorous. I had so many compliments and guess what. , even with the 114 degrees of heat, my makeup stayed fresh all day and night. I did not want to clean my face before going to bed😀 I recommend Star High Beauty to everyone!!!

Dr. Taylor was kind, patient and considerate, and is passionate about her work helping others find happiness together. She met with us several times prior to our wedding and helped us create the kind of service we wanted. She gave us a very nice service, and wrote a beautiful homily about my wife and I that was very sincere and moving. She really spoke from the heart and you can see her sincerity and passion for the Lord. I heartily recommend her!

Jennifer was AMAZING! Communication was wonderful, she was easy to talk to and share ideas with. She was on time and brought so many goodies! She really personalized my experience too based on my skin type and the look I was going for. Her pricing included eyelashes. She really went above & beyond but I don't want to list it all out because you'll want to be surprised. I got so many compliments on her work. Loved my hair and makeup for my wedding - thank you Jenn!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
