There are very few people in the world who garner a five star review. Christopher Miller is one of them. From the moment we first spoke, I had no doubt he was the kind of professional I needed to take my case. A month (or so) ago, I received a DUI and had been looking for a lawyer to hire. After chatting with other professionals, I began to feel more like a “job” and less like a person. Speaking with Chris was the first time I felt human again. He was genuinely interested in who I was and the events that led up to the DUI. He explained his role as my (potential) lawyer and the ends and outs of navigating a DUI charge in court. He assured me I could trust him to work hard AND get me the best deal possible, if I chose to bring him on board. I did and looking back I’m not sure how I would have made it through this process without him. I like communication. That’s what I wrote to him after we agreed to work together. I stress when there is something I don’t know. Chris understood this and went above and beyond to explain every detail throughout the entire process. I never felt in the dark and had no moments of panic or tension. During each step Chris shared his plans, how he intended to go forward and what I could expect. All I can say is WOW! During sentencing Chris was true to his word. He worked hard and despite the severity of my case, Chris proved to be an excellent negotiator, which ensured his (our) success. I don’t have enough words of thanks and praise for The Miller Law Firm. I would recommend him to anyone in need of his services.

I am not new to needing notary services over the years. Having said that, please know; I found, Srividya (notary) to Excel in her services as well as her demeanor. She is; pleasant, kind, professional, on time & knowledgeable. I also discovered that she has a law degree from out of country and while she is not practicing law in the USA, I personally believe it lends itself to her overall understanding of legal documents, opinions, etc. Srividya, would easily be the BEST notary (on many levels) I have ever used and highly recommend her to anyone. Paul was great! From our very first conversation he well advised me with my unique circumstances. I was victimized by a somewhat illegal HOA scam. They foreclosed on my home 6 yrs ago, after getting thousands of dollars from me and had the NERVE pop up 6 yrs later and levy my bank account and garnish my wages for $6k for who knows what. Paul had the perfect solution to file bk so and they can never victimize me again. Paul answers all my questions promptly even after discharge. Thank you Paul Nuyen, Bob Eubanks & NHT Law Group.

I have worked in and around law offices for most of my life. I know a lot of attorneys and how they operate. So when the time came that I needed to hire a lawyer, I knew exactly what to look for and what to avoid. I can tell right away that Mr. McCready was experienced and professional. I spoke with him in depth before hiring him. I observed him and really listened to his approach and ideas. After speaking with several other attorneys, I came to the conclusion that Zach McCready was the right choice for me. I absolutely made the right decision. He was excellent and followed through on everything. His knowledge of the legal system is impressive to say the least. If you want the best, I suggest you go with McCready.

Gayleen and Theresa were the first ones to respond to my request on Thumbtack. From that moment on, I was thoroughly impressed by their speed, efficiency, and level of professionalism. Gayleen did wonders on my return and took the time to answer all of my questions and explained things thoroughly. She was very reasonably priced, especially given her obvious expertise and knowledge of tax law. I ended up with a sizeable refund. I'm so impressed, that I'm having her look over prior years and do amendments as my previous tax preparer made some mistakes that cost me dearly. I highly recommend Richmond Services; they were outstanding!

Wow! He is really good at what he does. He is a bankruptcy expert and also teaches bankruptcy law (so you know he knows his stuff). He is very accessible and takes all phone calls himself and gives very reasonably rates. He surpassed my expectations and did my bankruptcy fairly quickly and now I am in less debt because of him. Highly recommend attorney Sevan!

Lori was great, she is always on top of the case and she always had answers to my questions which is especially reassuring in a family law case. Prior to Lori I was dealing with my ex wife who was taking me to the cleaners and laughing straight to the bank, Lori's services helped quickly change that. Lori gave me peace of mind and I was able to sleep better at night because I knew Lori had my best interest in mind and wouldn't sleep till I got was rightfully mine. Overall the experience was gratifying and I actually have some legitimate rights as a father. Thanks Lori, keep up the great work!!!

I consulted with Chris on my case and although I went with another attorney, Chris was very responsive and professional when we spoke on the phone. He listened to my concerns and followed up after our initial consultation. I called dozens of law firms all pushing for bankruptcy, which was not the way I wanted to go with my case. Chris was one of only two attorneys I spoke with who offered to look at the paperwork and review my options. I'm glad there are still good attorneys out there willing to fight for consumers. Thank you, Chris!

I was involved in a high conflict child custody move away case in San Bernardino county. My case also involved a domestic violence restraining order. I was frightened about the possibility of having my children taken from me when I fled to the safety of my parents home in another state after having been served with a summons by my ex. I was ordered by the court, in San Bernardino county, to return my children to California with me at the time that I had to appear for the hearing. I When I contacted Tash Haq at his law firm, he really help calm my fears, with his knowledge and expertise in such cases as mine. As a result of his guidance and expertise, my children were able to return with me after the hearing. Thanks to Tash Haq, my children and I will be having a very happy and peaceful Holiday season.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.
