Wellspace SF is a wonderful discovery! I was looking for help and guidance around nutrition and relationship to food. I am glad to have found this place. Their response to my initial request to find a nutritionist/food coach was very timely. The folks I communicated with were so professional and caring, and they matched me up perfectly with a nutritionist/food coach who has the perfect background and personality for my needs! I attribute this to careful listening and good questioning. I was able to make an appointment quickly, and we have already had an initial session, and I couldn't be more pleased!

I highly recommend Iris. I hired Iris for career coaching a few months ago. Those months were the most transformative of my professional career. Through her sessions, I was able to clearly see my strengths and weaknesses and was able to make concrete steps to improve my effectiveness as a employee. She is compassionate, smart and able to narrow in on the root cause of issues. She is great!

Lea listens with a hopeful and skilled ear. From the first time I spoke with her, she was able to grasp the complexity of my story and feelings. Lea asks questions that allow me to discover my own feelings and mirrors back my experience such that i can consider things from a more neutral, objective perspective. She has offered opportunities to consider my work life in relation to my emotional and spiritual life, and to make fruitful connections between different aspects of my life. She so believes in my ability to know myself and design my life that she inspires me to believe in myself as well. Lea’s depth of life experience, willingness to empathize, and ability to wonder make her a life coach ideal for anyone at a crossroads. Prior to working with Lea, I felt really distant from my heart, and her sessions with me have fostered a deep desire (as well as the space to) to reconnect with the person I always was.

Deb is an amazing life coach. My husband and I truly feel she is an asset to our relationship. She is a great listener and is nonjudgmental. I feel she comes from a place of love. She helps us see things about ourselves we might not have, if we didn't have her in our lives. Whenever she leaves I feel I have gained so much by our time together, that would have otherwise got ignored, not talked about, or buried. She is sweet, sincere, relaxed and full of great insight. We are so blessed to have her in our life! Thanks, J and I

I spoke with Velina on Skype about the challenges I'm dealing with in my life and she was really helpful. I highly recommend her to anyone having difficulties or needing a good coach in their life. She seems to know a lot and has a lot of experience helping people with all kinds of issues. For me, I really felt like she cared deeply for me and understood me like a close friend and yet is very professional. She is warm and kind. I'm so glad I found her. She helped me so much.

Arya is a master counselor and life coach. He brings a potent combination of skills into his work: a sincere heart, a highly intelligent mind, and a wealth of professional training and experience. Every session feels expertly held in a professional yet humane container; the real issues are addressed, directly and sometimes sternly, but always with an authentic kindness and care. Arya has helped me to: -cut through my insecurities and obstacles around my artwork -focus in on and take more action with my career in more ambitious and visionary ways -navigate very old and difficult patterns with my family -recognize and begin to authentically relate to things I was avoiding about myself/my life in a way that has led to way more relief, freedom and positive action -and just more generally, being someone in my life I can trust to help me through the ups and downs of being a human I'll share one more thing: though I didn't experience this directly, my dear friends went to Arya for couples coaching/relationship counseling. They said they received incredible benefit from their work with Arya, and that if not for his intervention, they don't know if they would have made it. They spoke about his acute attention to detail, especially in tracking the subtle habitual ways that they would shut down or leave their hearts, while giving them practicable alternatives to create the kind of connected, intimate, and fulfilling relationship they were longing for but couldn't find. There's a reason (many reasons) why Arya is at the top of this yelp list. He is absolutely worth it!

Nicole played a big role in my career development. My issues have been trying to focus on what I want to do and how to do it, and working with Nicole on those issues put me on the right path for success. What I love about Nicole is that she forces you to see the big picture, ask yourself the hard (but necessary) questions, and then identify the steps to reach your goals. I look forward to using Nicole again when I need to navigate life and career changes, which I anticipate will reduce my fear of making those changes, knowing I have her in my back pocket.

I am currently a special education teacher looking to move into an administrative position. Leanne was a huge resource with assisting in locating resume examples and educating me on what a professional resume should entail. She proofread my current resume and gave me constructive feedback on how to present myself for my desired job. She read and provided feedback for job cover letters, especially highlighting appropriate experience for each job I was applying for. She was highly professional, kind, and highly effective with coaching me in regards to my resume. I highly recommend her and Communication Coaching to anyone in need of building a resume and all other services! She is a great person to work with and I will always refer her when someone is in need of coaching for public speaking, editing of professional documents, and or advice on advancing careers.

I hired Kat 6 months ago. I used to be super embarrassed to admit I hired a life coach because most life coaches I met are so full of BS. One example was when I met a life coach who helped people level up in their career, while revealing that she’s still drives for Uber to make ends meet. Nothing wrong with driving for Uber, but come on. It wasn’t until I met Kat at an education dinner. She introduced herself as a “life coach” and I thought “Oh boy, here we go again.” But Kat not only had such great answers to the big questions I asked, she backed it up with frameworks that I actually resonated with. So she read a lot books - big whoop. Then I found out that she ran Seth Godin’s AltMBA community. Whoa! We had a deep 1 hour convo. Not only did she get life, Kat also understood the business/startup side of things. She really impressed me. I wanted to make big changes in my life and asked her for help. I hired her for 1 session and I found so much value, I worked with her every week for the next 6 months. Kat’s help had the biggest impact to my personal growth out of anyone I’ve ever met. - She found the main reason why I’ve failed every single diet/workout plan in my life. Back then, eating fast food every day would be an understatement. Giving up new workout plans became routines my friends would constantly call me out on. Then Kat and I worked on a solution to fix that. Fast forward to today, I’m literally in the best shape of my life starting with foundational habits/mindsets that only goes uphill from here. - Kat helped me sound board topics on my mind to help me find clarity: what I want in my career, what I want out of my romantic relationships, what it means to be authentic, what my North Star is, and so much more. Not all life coaches are BS - some are great and can literally change your life. Kat is one of those special humans - I owe a lot of my success in 2017 (and the future) to her help.

I am a mid-career professional seeking to change direction and I couldn’t have ask for a better Career Coach than Dr. Milwid. Dr. Milwid is a skilled guide. She begins by leading you through a self-exploration that helps you understand not only what you’re looking for but also what you have to offer. She then turns tactical and offers extremely helpful and practical guidance for restructuring the primary documents needed for an effective job search: your resume and cover letters. Throughout, Dr. Milwid shares relevant articles and research and brings to bear her decades of experience advising people and her own multi-faceted career. Dr. Milwid is also extremely encouraging and a genuine pleasure to work with. You’ll leave your sessions with Dr. Milwid feeling energized and prepared to embark on a targeted and effective job search. I feel lucky to have worked with her and am confident you’ll feel the same.

Dory presented to our team "Your Best Year Yet," which helped us determine where we are now and where we want to head next year. The exercises depicted how to acknowledge our team accomplishments as well recognize team disappointments and the components that lead to both these successes and letdowns. The session resulted in creating a stronger, more effective team camaraderie.

I have taken 3 sessions with Katrina and I see my relationship with girlfriend got better, I feel more in control of my emotions, feel more compassion and understanding as oppose to irritation and anger I used to have. And my girlfriend noted positive changes in me. I know it's a journey and I'm planning to take couple more sessions with Katrina. Thank you Katrina, I'm very glad our paths have come across!

Alicia has presented career development workshops to my students at Stanford and her talks consistently receive high marks. Students say they appreciate her unique perspective having been a recruiter at top tech companies with experience on the other side of the table at USF's career center as well. That's a hard to find blend in the career coaching world. I would highly recommend her advising to anyone navigating their job search.

Lindsey was patient and professional, working with me to achieve a few specific career and relationship goals I had. Kind, empathetic, yet non-judgmental-- she was able to shine light on several blocking issues that I had never identified. Finally, she was very accommodating to my schedule and provided useful documentation of each of our sessions for me to keep and use for reference. I'm looking forward to working with her again!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

    • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
    • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
    • Defining your career goals
    • Creating a plan for job searching
    • Improving networking strategies and skills
    • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
    • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
    • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

    Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

    • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
    • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
    • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
    • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
    • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
    • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
    • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

    What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
