Max is great to work with and he has a very pragmatic approach to self defense / martial arts. He has a very diverse background in training and he seems to select the components that work best given a particular context. He is direct and wants you to empower you with good technique and a strong mental framework. My introductory session went great, and I signed up for another block of classes - so far so good!
I've been training with Josh for over a year and a half now. I first decided to train in mixed martial arts just as a new workout routine, and because I enjoyed the sport as a fan. I was essentially starting from scratch, and because of that I felt that getting personal training would be more effective than taking large group classes so that I would get the fundamentals down from the start. Josh was very patient in teaching me all the basics. He's a great teacher, and is able to break down some very complex techniques into simple instructions that can be applied. He also understands and focuses on what his students goals are and gears the training accordingly, so that you're always learning something specifically catered to helping you achieve them. Ive come a long way since I first started working with Josh and because I have gotten results faster than I originally expected, I now have a different set of goals from when I began. I have no doubt his teaching can help me get there. Josh definitely puts you through a tough workout, but its a lot of fun and I really look forward to it each week. He has accomplished a lot in this sport, so he can fit whatever experience level you are at. I consider him not just a coach but a friend and fully endorse anyone looking for a trainer to check him out.
Victor was prompt in communication and did a wonderful job engaging a roomful of 5 year olds in martial arts. Thank you!
It's been two sessions now with Jeremy, and what I like most about J is that he listens while he's watching and executes without pushing too far or too little. Jeremy has an eye for form, super crucial for someone like myself with a lot of past injuries, and he respects what I as a client want to work on while adding in what he knows I need to excel as an "athlete" competing in daily life. Being able to work on the scaffolding required for challenging lifts with someone I trust has been vital to my personal development, and the bonus is he knows a variety of martial arts so I get some stress relief with basic (for now, bwahaha) boxing drills. I'm looking forward to more sessions with Jeremy and am excited to see what we can accomplish together!

I attended Cynthia Jolicoeur’s “Intro to Personal Defense Readiness” course in the Boston area over Labor Day week-end last year (9/4/16). I had no specific expectations other than to learn some new ideas and techniques. (I am a 5th degree black belt in the Ed Parker American Kenpo style, so brought that experience and mindset into the training.) I was quite pleased to receive such a thorough presentation on how the Blauer PDR system differs from martial arts training, along with a wealth of other information that is not typically provided in self-defense training, in particular the psychological and emotional components that accompany the physical aspect. Cynthia was extremely knowledgeable and well-versed in this material and answered most participant questions without referring to notes. The physical component was ably demonstrated by Cynthia and her “bad guy,” Dave Rood. All the participants had multiple opportunities to practice on them and on each other. The outdoor scenarios were excellent and provided realistic “hands on” experience of what to do (or not do) in the event of an unexpected attack. Cynthia’s own black belt karate experience is invaluable for helping participants who come from a martial arts background remember how the PDR system is different. Not that the martial arts experience is wrong, but that there are cases when it’s ineffective and doesn’t really prepare the martial artist mentally to respond appropriately to a sudden, violent attack. I highly recommend Cynthia’s course.
I think Jeff is a real stand up guy, he helped me get creative with my exercise routine and really increased my level of physical fitness and in turn my personal success. One thing that I think he could have done better was Charge More!!!! His services are so good I don't know why he isn't it some rich gym like Equinox. Will come back again!

We provide private martial arts and self-defense lessons and training. I am not a martial arts instructor who wants to be called master, sifu or some other honorific title; I'm just an easygoing coach with three legitimate, confirmable black belts that will work with you at whatever level you are. I won't force you to train like an Olympian unless you want to, and I don't teach how to dodge bullets or fly through the air. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, read on. I am committed to teaching critical self-protection skills to those who seek it. My form of self-defense teaches the social, emotional, mental as well as physical skills necessary to avoid most confrontations. Should an assailant escalate to the physical realm, my students are ready to respond accordingly with easy-to-master physical skills that are derived from jujitsu, hapkido, aikido, wing chun and NYC street defense that any body type can learn quickly and easily. I offer private lessons to both adults and children, as well as corporate team lessons. For those who may be interested, I am willing to help them achieve their black belt through Jujitsu America. I offer a free needs analysis/first lesson and after that, I charge for eight lessons at a time. I strongly believe that no one should be denied this education and as such, I have committed to teaching these skills to young people in the public schools free of charge; just ask. Additionally, I offer sliding scale to those who simply can't afford to pay my normal fees. I also offer coaching for competitive events. I am a first-level national coach (and a committee member) for Sport Jujitsu; I can help you succeed in any tournament. If you are interested in studying in either San Francisco or New York, or if you have any questions, please reach out to me at the number below or e-mail me. Please check out my website too. It's where you can check out my credentials and see my videos. Thanks for reading, and I hope to work with you soon.
