Albert did a spectacular job for our video testimonial. He did everything we asked him perfectly. I could not be more thrilled with how the final product turned out, and would most definitely recommend Albert to anyone looking for video production services.

Clearlight Video & Photography captured the best of my wedding. Lawrence is professional, kind, outgoing, curious, thoughtful, and takes the initiative to get the perfect shot. He calmly and tactfully directed our guests into the frame to get all the compositions we asked for (and more). Lawrence has a natural ability to capture real emotion and personality from strangers, such that many of our best photos are his candids. Moreover, all of our guests complimented us on his professionalism, friendliness, and ability to get people in the shot to compose good images. Lawrence was easy to work with throughout the process. We negotiated a price easily, even though my situation was fairly unique. Lawrence also allowed me access to his RAW files, something many photographers refuse to do. When I was unable to transfer the files to my computer after the event, Lawrence made additional arrangements to ensure I received them. Lawrence even continued to work on some of my images after the event had completed and he had been paid in full, sending me his alterations gratis. In sum, I speak for all of my guests in saying we were incredibly impressed with Lawrence's work. Measured by quality, I can see the services of Clearlight Video & Photography easily costing in excess of $2,000, especially in the Bay Area. I consider Lawrence's photography services to be the best bargain of my wedding, and give him my highest recommendation.

I interviewed about 15 photographers to try to find the perfect one and I finally did! I had a lot of specific requests that I wanted photos and video footage of many special things so that my video can turn out the way I want it to and give a specific story, both Ruben and Omar jumped in no problem! They were always around me whenever I needed and it was fast and easy to get pictures with everyone and not waste time. I can not wait to are the final product! So far the preview pictures I have got have had emotion and been beautiful! Here is a picture of my husband and dad and probably one of my favorite photos ever now! I really suggest using these guys... I have already had 3 friends from the wedding ask for their contact information! They won't disappoint!

Top notch experience with Diane on my drone video project - delivered everything as planned and was able to make a great judgement call in the field and on the fly to deliver solid video footage at a shoot site where conditions weren't ideal.

A while back a friend recommended Ilja's video service to me. I needed to produce a couple of product videos, but didn't know where to start. Ilja offered an reasonable price and I was really impressed with his professionalism and his efforts to make this project a success. He had great suggestions on how to get the script just right. He also found the perfect voice-over talent to narrate the videos. He came to my shop to look at possible filming locations and advised on how to best tackle the production workflow. Ilja also kept the editing process transparent and allowed me to give feedback periodically where I thought necessary. I have since hired Ilja to shoot photos during a private event that I hosted and could not be happier with the outcome. Bravo, Ilja! Will definitely hire again! John

Nic came ahead of time on the day of the event. He coordinated well with the photographer. We hired him for the raw footage of the event and highlights video. He was very responsive over email, and provided raw footage of the event within a week. Highlight video contained well selected scenes.

Charles Koppelman video-taped the proceedings of a 2+day academic conference at UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr Center Auditorium. Even if the light level was inadequate and he had to capture the sound off the speakers, we set the agreement on his use of a single camera (decided by us), he did a wonderful job of capturing the proceedings. The quality of the images are wonderful, as was the sound. We are very pleased with the end product.

They were AWESOME! They brought on a third photographer to help when they realized the size of the wedding events. They made suggestions where they knew better with their expertise and it worked out better than perfect - I.e. when the best time to take family photos. They were on time and ready to go with very creative pictures. I haven’t received my photos or video yet (it’s onky been 1 month today) but I have no doubt they will blow me away. THANK YOU!!!

I hired Mark to make a video recording of an evening panel discussion. He was very prompt in responding to questions about the technical details, and working out how best to work the event. As it turned out, one of the panelists couldn't have video made without prior permission, and it was too late for his office to respond. Mark was extremely flexible about this, and spent his time setting up and running the audio board for the multiple microphones for the panel and the Q&A instead. Since sound is part of a video, this was just as natural to him as doing the whole video recording. We had no glitches in sound, thanks to Mark, and I'm sure the video would have been equally good if the panelist had given permission. I really appreciated his punctuality, the clear communication, the flexibility in adapting to our changing circumstances, and his overall friendly and helpful personality. The next time we have a video project, Mark is the first name I'll call.

Keida was amazing to work with! He was very accommodating from the get go and we couldn’t be more happier with the outcome of his work. In our package, not only did he included the cool feature of a drone footage in our video but he was also able to capture every part of our wedding in multiple angles using one man’s power. We loved his work and is very thankful that he took the time to thoroughly put all then pieces together in our video. We truly would recommend him as a professional videographer for your wedding! Respectfully, The Kimotos

I highly recommend hiring Samerial for your next event! I recently hired her for my 30th birthday party and had requested a short social media YouTube friendly video of my birthday, photos capturing my friends, the ambiance and highlight moments including some roasts and toasts and a full video of my event. I had provided a reference example of my vision of the videos and upon receiving the short video clip within 24 hours Samerial had made my vision come true in video format! Cannot thank her enough for capturing this day for me and she came on time and was willing to stay through the evening to ensure she had captured all that I had requested. Samerial is extremely professional and I would definitely use her again in the future.

Ian exceeded expectations in the following ways: 1) Willing to go the extra mile. a. Right up front, while in the RFP stage he researched into our request for a specific format and shared his findings. It was obvious he had done more than a surface dive into the requested format. He came back with specifics including what the cost was for purchasing the software to be able to deliver the videos in the specialized format. The cost of the software was prohibitive for him to purchase independent of our paying for it, but he gave additional technical information to help us troubleshoot through the process of how to make things work on our end. b. The first session included some technical difficulties, and so he also videotaped the last session on day 2, which was a repeat of the first session. His motivation was in wanting to deliver a quality product. 2) Flexible a. There was little time between my first contacting him and the job starting. We could not be flexible on the dates and so he made changes in his schedule. b. There were changes on our side of the equation on multiple levels and he accommodated without issue. c. Extremely accommodating about payment and followed up when he did receive payment. 3) He delivered exactly what he promised. a. Quality of the audio/video and editing was great b. He delivered on time c. He communicated updates along the way. 4) Very easy to work and communicate a. He was always pleasant and respectful in every communication and throughout the 2-days of videotaping. b. He was very approachable and quick to respond to requests and communications. Bottom line His bid was not the cheapest or the most expensive that came in, but he was the most helpful and consistently responsive to communications. I could tell by the questions he asked and how he asked them that he had passion for what he does and it is not just a job to make money. What is important to him is delivering the highest quality product. would not hesitate in the future to work with him again for similar needs. highest recommends

Phase 1 was to take the video footage. Arnell exceeded all expectations by contacting the venue and then helping rent some auxiliary equipment that the venue had mistakenly led me to believe existed. He also brought some music that all participants enjoyed. He arrived early at the event to set up his equipment. During the event, he seemed to be everywhere he needed to be and unobtrusively made sure that critical portions of the event were video'd. So part one has been superbly carried out; we are looking forward to part two: editing of the footage.

My experience working with Nathaniel Davi Reyes has been an outstanding, rewarding experience, that has helped open many doors for myself and my own business. I asked Nathaniel to perform some photo and video work for a hair cutting tutorial video a little less than a year ago, and the results have been amazing. The final video went to YouTube and has now, to this date, over 700,000 views. I have gained national and world attention, gained several new clientele, and gained side gigs that I would never have came across if it weren't for the video. The common compliments are about how good the quality of the video was; how well done it was put together. Truly a testament to the work and vision of Nathaniel. As far as his professionalism, Nathaniel is a true professional and artist. He has all the equipment necessary, knows how to operate and improvise the equipment, punctual, possesses a quick turn over rate for completion, and requires little if not no instruction in terms of what needs to be done. I simply give him the concept of what I want to do, and let him work his magic like a true artist. All in all, I've now decided to appoint Nathaniel as my go-to video and photo guy.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
