"I highly recommend Unlockd Massage! Before my massage, I had deep pain in my lower back and hips. Cedric was able to target the exact area that had been bothering me, and the day after my massage I was completely pain free! Cedric not only made me feel relaxed and comfortable during my appointment, but is very knowledgeable in his craft. I would definitely see him again!"

"Johnny provides an excellent massage. I have had weekly massages for many years as part of a healthy lifestyle. I recently moved to the area and have been in search of a new therapist. After trying several who did not work well for me, I was lucky enough to find Johnny. I have only had one massage with him so far, but it was excellent, so I think I have found my new therapist. In addition to the high quality of the massage, he is easy to get to, has good parking, has a comfortable, peaceful studio, and is a nice guy."

"I got this massage for my wife who is 38 weeks pregnant. Her OB recommended a pregnancy massage to relieve her back pain and sciatica. Jillian was very communicative from the request to her arrival. She even arrived at our home 15 minutes early, for set up and to talk to my wife on what her needs were. After her 90 Minute session, my wife was a different person: able to walk without pain in her back, legs, and overall felt refreshed. It’s been 48 hours since her massage, and she is still feeling great! She mentioned how she only wished she received more during her pregnancy! She wouldn’t hesitate to call upon Jillian again. She really like her technique and was very personable before and after, yet allowed her to relax during the session. We would certainly welcome Jillian back again. Just all around wonderful person, personable, professional, and superior value for the level of service. Thanks Jillian!"

"As a new person to receiving a massage, Lee made me feel very comfortable upon entering his studio. The studio was actually quite nice and has a relaxing atmosphere. His soft spoken demeanor and his professionalism made the experience quite enjoyable. Once on the massage table, he knew the right technique to use to knead the tension out of my neck and shoulders. And using the right amount of pressure on my back was perfect. Once the massage was over, I was so relax, tensions spots were gone and I needed a nap. As a person new to receiving massages, I will most definitely use Lee again."

"I have been a weekly massage client of Lee Engelke for several months and could not be more pleased with his service. The regular massages have significantly reduced the problems I have with back pain and stiffness. I have used many massage practitioners in the past and am most pleased with Lee's technique. Furthermore, he is extremely professional and reliable. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a professional quality massage service. "

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
