My husband and I recently moved into our house in Torrance, CA.. We hired Debby and her company Creative Spaces Interior Design, Inc. to help us make it a home. She got a feel for our likes and dislikes almost immediately. She has a great insight in planning and design. She valued our thoughts and ideas and closely worked with them. She used and incorporated existing furniture, pictures and family heirlooms that were very important to us. She knows how to combine old styles with new modern styles to achieve the perfect desired effect for that "wow" factor that we were looking for. She is very detailed oriented and quite the perfectionist. She turned our home into something we are extremely proud of. It is warm, comfortable and inviting. We would highly recommend Debby to all of our family and friends and would definitely have her come again for future planning and decorating. Debby was a real pleasure to work with, you will not be disappointed.

I am so happy with Mazi's services (Mana Design) . He completely designed and drafted the new layout and design for my shop. He got the city approval and pull the permit. It is not easy to find someone who you can trust and has experience in commercial interior design. After interviewing with many people, my partner and I, picked MaNa Design because we found Mazi so professional from the day first. Until the final day, he was on top of his schedule and we were in touch via any cominucqtion system such as FaceTime, Skype, etc. and personal meeting during those 10-days. You must see his beautiful showroom, it tells how he cares about every detail. His company is a real example of success and novelty. I am writing this comments to share with everyone our wonderful experience with his design services. We are going to buy all materials that we have chosen from his showroom and we will defiantly use his company - Mana Design Build Inc - to do the construction part. He is licensed and bonded and as far as we did research on his company, he did many beautiful and amazing construction. I hope the above comment helps you all.

Over the past 8 years, we have used the services of Renee Meyer Interiors for both large projects (entire room) or smaller ones (choosing a single piece of furniture or accessory) and each time things turned out beautifully. She has provided draperies and custom cushions and bedspread, re-designed our fireplace, chosen furniture, lamps, and mirrors, helped us choose paint colors and found unique accessories. She uses high quality products, has a real flair for interior design, is willing to spend lots of time helping, and makes sure that things are remedied in the extremely rare occasion that I was dissatisfied. I love being able to call her with a design need and know that she will always deliver. Not a day goes by that I don't smile at the beauty of our home, and she has earned all the credit for its attractiveness. I recommend her most highly ... and I am known for having very exacting standards.

Dar was amazing! I highly recommend Dar. His personalized service, his ability to look at our home and customize the decor was second to none. We interviewed many "stagers" and Dar was the only person to look at the "bones" of our house and know how to present the house at its best. If I was to ever need staging again, I would only use Dar -- and I would recommend Dar to any friend looking for a stager. According to my husband, his staging accentuated the best of the house and his staging made the house look better than we imagined -- as a viewer of the home, you didn't necessarily know how great the staging was -- it fit so perfectly with the home. As the owner, we realized that without the staging the home went back to just a house -- Dar got to know the house, and us, and made our home amazing.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Josh on a project for Angeleno magazine where I needed to have condos decorated for an event for a real estate client. Not only did Josh help me do this on a budget, but he embued every single room with inspired creativity that the client and event guests loved. And he was a blast to work with! I look forward to working with him again and unequivocally recommend him.

I used Henry Home Staging when I wanted to sell my house in a hurry. Nicola did a great job using the furniture that I already had and she added some new accessories and it really looked great. I found her to be very professional and she really listened when I told her that my budget was small and she made it work. The house sold on the same day we had the open house to a really nice family who paid $10,000 over the list price! So happy! I would definitely use her services again. Thanks Nicola!

I have worked w/ Marie Roviello twice- The first as associates, where our firm was the architectural firm of record on a project that Roviello Design was brought in to do interiors on & the other (after) as a client. That I had previously worked along side her and later hired her to work on my own house probably says it all. Because of her architectural background, she has much more experience in many of the realities that most interiors people just don't have the knowledge to bring to the table, (materials, code, structure) Her aesthetic is fairly broad, but her strength probably leans towards a contemporary, high-end New York sophisticate. many interiors people, spend an unusual amount of energies shoveling fantasies into their clients and all the while are silently tiptoeing in the background through the project - until one grand day, they hand you a finished product wrapped in positive reinforcement. A product that often times seems disconnected from the occupants & ends up being more a "stage" than a home. "wrangling the coalition" between client, designer & the trades is where Roviello Design's real strength lies. They (R.I.) realize that the best answers come from a partnership, where the clients wants and needs are respected. and all the "realities" are metastasized into something (from what I have seen) that people love.

I have used Melissa on a few occasions for staging and for my personal home design. Her professionalism is unmatched, she listens and can understand her client's vision and can portray it even with the smallest amount of direction. I literally told her I like Restoration Hardware/Pottery Barn with a touch of formal and I came home to a masterpiece better than I could have imagined. With Real Estate home staging, each time I have used her... the home has sold with multiple offers in less than a week. Again, wherever possible, I will use her!!

Ron Vigneault showed up as an angel on earth when I was ready to get my house prepared for sale in the late spring of 2014. - I would highly recommend Ron to anyone wanting to renovate or prepare a house for sale - I have never met anyone who worked as hard as Ron Vigneault. Although I originally hired Ron to freshen up my home by painting a few rooms, by the time my house went on the market, Ron had been instrumental in all aspects of transforming my house from a nice, comfortable, but slightly lived in and dull abode, to a sparkling gem that my real estate agent was proud to show and that impressed my friends and visitors. My house sold quite quickly, and it was in the middle of the summer - the quietest season for house sales in Montreal. I cannot fully express the impact of the load Ron took of my shoulders to get my house ready - here are the major components of the work he took on: Working tirelessly, Ron Helped me clear out, un-clutter, and make my home feel light, airy and spacious. Had a keen eye for and fixed little things that helped my house look well looked after. - Insisting on good quality, light coloured paint that I originally balked at, Ron meticulously painted the rooms we decided needed it - they were transformed into spaces that felt not only freshened up, but more spacious and airy. Guided me towards track lighting throughout most of the house not only made the rooms look larger, but also gave the house a more modern, sleek look. - Helped me pick out my new furniture. Having already decided to buy my new furniture before I sold the house, Ron guided me towards clean-lined, light, airy, but still comfortable new furnishings to reflect a more updated look and feel. He encourage me to lean towards items that I could use later in my new place, but that would also show my house well but - while always keeping my budget in mind. - Ron also helped me create a new look by updating what was on my walls. As the art work I had no longer fit my new updated surroundings, Ron's wife Jen, who is a talented artist, custom made a gorgeous abstract painting for my living room that fit perfectly in the new environment. This added a nice artsy touch to my home, and also fits nicely in my new place. The three of us also worked together to brighten up a boring stairway by creating aninteresting wall of photos made from prints from a variety of sources we had on hand. This wall created quite a buzz. - Ron was always concerned about how much I spent when making the required renovations or purchases. To Recap: Ron was instrumental in getting my house ready for sale and he worked tirelessly the whole time. One day we worked together clearing and cleaning out my garage for 5 straight hours. When finished, it was cleaner than I when I moved in. Afterwards, he took a 1/2 hour break and then went on to some other task still full of energy. Rosemary, Montreal Sept, 2015 (work done May, June, 2014)

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

          What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

          • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
          • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
          • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
          • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

          • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
          • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
            • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
          • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
            • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
          • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
          • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

          • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
          • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
          • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
          • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
