Joyce was amazing with my two cats. She even sent us pictures of them while we were away. Joyce fed our cats the prescribed amounts, cleaned the litter box, and played with them. We came home to very happy kitties and plan to use Joyce for all of our future cat sitting needs!

We met Tiffany through our local Veterinary Hospital and she came highly recommend from our attending Vet for pet sitting. We have a senior cat with lots of needs who is best left in her own setting when we leave. Tiffany is extremely diligent and trustworthy in giving the best care including medications and multiple visits daily for food and meds. Her text messages keep us informed and relieved our kitty is in the best of care while we are away. She goes above and beyond great service taking her responsibility very seriously and is always professional. Her love of animals shows in her work.

I hired Shelley for cat sitting. It was on short notice, but she was very quick to respond and meet up to go over instructions. I was gone for almost a week, but Shelley was great with providing video and picture updates. When we got back home, was just as we left it and my cat barely even noticed we left :) Overall, my experience was great. I can't recommend Shelley enough, she was fantastic!

Marina did a wonderful job watching our dogs while we were on vacation. Leading up to our trip, she reassured us that she would send lots of pictures and videos, and did she deliver! When we returned, the dogs were happy and well cared for. I would highly recommend Marina for pet sitting. She understands that your pets are family members too, and she treats them like they were her own family.

Kevin impressed us with his willingness to work around our schedules and to patiently manage our young rescue dog. Our dog reacted to him better than others we interviewed so, in a sense, she chose Kevin. His rates are very competitive too. We hope this is the beginning of a long and successful relationship!

Erika is an EXCELLENT pet sitter!! She is extremely responsive, responsible, thoughtful and caring. Erika impressed us immediately at our first meeting- she was thorough in learning about what our cats' wants and needs, personalities and proclivities. For each visit, Erika sends us short videos of our cats; which gives us peace of mind. She is very quick to respond to our requests, even if its short notice. Erika even arranged for a reliable, vetted sub when she was out of town, and we needed cat sitting. We feel very fortunate to have found Erika to take care of our beloved kitties. We highly recommend her!!!

Martha was very professional and thorough before she agreed to care for my pets. We met twice so that she and Denise could meet my entire family of 5 cats and 2 dogs. I'm sure that my pet family was happy to have someone there overnight while I was out of town. I got almost daily updates on my pets which were greatly appreciated. I feel confident that they received very good care in my absence and would highly recommend Wiggling Tails Pet Sitting Service

I rarely feel compelled to write reviews but Uncle Joe's Pet Care deserves to be noted as providing excellent service and support. Joe recently cared for our two cats while we were on vacation, and we had a great experience! He was very thorough in getting all the care details during the initial meet and greet, and instantly bonded with our furry buddies. They have a few special needs, like for example feeding always needs to be supervised because otherwise the alpha cat would eat both portions. We felt very comfortable leaving our two sweeties in Joe's care and we were not disappointed. As we could see and hear from Joe's frequent updates, they were happy and relaxed during our absence. It's also comforting to know that Uncle Joe's is insured and bonded. Joe is not only very professional, and knows a ton about pet care (ask him about nutrition!), he is also someone who truly loves cats. I'm so happy we found him, and I highly recommend Uncle Joe's Pet Care. I would give them 10 stars if I could!

Adam was amazing with our dog Ella, both when he house sat for us and when he walks her from time to time. When Adam comes to the door Ella immediately is over the moon excited and knows exactly where to go and sit after she is done saying hello.... yes you got it, next to his car so she can go for a ride and a hike. Adam also surprised me when I got home by having the sheets from the bed he slept in while he was house sitting all washed, folded and sitting on the end of the bed. What a delight not to need to clean up after a house sitter. I give Adam "4 Paws Up"

Melissa is the only person I trust with my pet sitting needs. She is professional yet caring and compassionate. She has been able to be flexible and works around my crazy travel schedule without a complaint. The best part is that my dog loves when Melissa is walking him or pet sitting.... it's like having his favorite aunt coming to visit him!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
