I'm pretty fit, usually feel strong and capable of anything...out of nowhere I tweaked my back and could barely move. Scary and debilitating! My PPO insurance listed Amy at the top of the suggested list and at the advice of my primary physician I reluctantly tried acupuncture for the first time. Amazing! 12 hours later, after cupping and gentle needles I felt healed! What a relief! (btw, I was fearful of the needles but it wasn't painful or stressful at all!) Amy is a miracle worker, she is someone who clearly cares about her patients and their well-being. Most services seem clinical and you feel like a number. Amy invited me into her home office, communicated with me and really listened to my pain and symptoms. She spent additional time with me and followed up the next day to check on my progress. I feel incredibly grateful that I found Amy listed and was able to slide into a same-day appointment. I'm following the stretches and advice she gave me and will become a repeat customer. Highly recommend; she not only helped me but she also taught me ways to stretch, gave me a daily mantra & I'm now more aware of my body and how to care for it than ever before.

I was diagnosed with Hives. From the advice of my allergy doctor, I took Zyrtec for 3 months but it didn't help at all. And because of the severe side effects of Zyrtec i.e. drowsiness, I stopped using Zyrtec and decided to look for an alternative treatment. I found Dr. Chen. After several treatments of acupuncture plus Chinese herbs, my symptom was completely gone. Dr. Chen went above and beyond to listen, diagnose and spend quality time to treat for my symptom. I am very thankful for his kindness and expertise.

I work in Shipping & Receiving and handle heavy freight which involves a lot of lifting. I also play guitar and over the years all this repetitive motion caused me chronic muscle pain throughout my left shoulder to the top of my head. It got to the point I needed professional help; I discovered Chang Oh through my church and began to visit his clinic regularly. The therapy sessions he provided relieved me of all my pain and I am now convinced acupuncture and acupressure and massage are my preferred alternative to Western drugs. I recommend Chang Oh's excellent services to anyone suffering from chronic pain! Sincerely, Phil H.

Carlo is one of those under the radar acupuncturists. He has amazing intuitive sense and a wealth of knowledge of anything health related. I've had acupuncture numerous times, trying out different people for my neck and lower back pain. Nothing was working until I saw Carlo. Carlo is now my go to acupuncturist. I feel great after every session, No more pain after that! It was such a relief, I thought I would never see the end of it. Anyone who hasn't experienced acupuncture would be in the best hands with Carlo. He is awesome to work and extremlu friendly and I always look forward to discovering something new when I see him.

Scott was amazing! My low back had been hurting for four months. it was hard to sit and it got so bad I was starting to miss work. After the first session of acupuncture and massage I was feeling a lot better. In a couple of weeks all the pain was gone. Scott also taught me some exercises to keep the pain from returning. He said he teaches some kind of chinese yoga that is supposed to help but I don't have time for that.

DR. John Barrett has improved my quality of life greatly! I have been suffering with chronic migraines for years and I have seen a number of specialists. I have been seeing Dr. Barrett for about three months now and the migraines not only have decreased significantly in severity but have decreased in frequency. I am so thankful for the opportunity to live my life without the fear of a spontaneous migraine. The office is always clean and Dr. Barrett's office staff is so kind and helpful. I have a great experience every time I come in for an appointment. I recommend Dr. Barrett highly to anyone who would like to try an alternative to pain medications and other methods.

I came into the clinic because I was experiencing horrible back pain. Sunny cured me using massage and acupuncture. She walked me through the whole process since she knew I'm terrified of needles and the whole procedure didn't hurt at all! Not only that, my back is doing way better! Thanks Sunny!

      About

I have good hands that I can pinpoint your pain area that other doctors can't. Having both chiropractic and acupunture background gives me solid knowledge of the whole body. I am able to make good diagnosis and I have many therapy and treatment tools to use on different conditions to get the best results. A lot of people come to me because they have pain or problems that have been bothering them for years. They have tried everything else to get rid of the pain, but nothing seems to work. I feel great when I made their pain go away and finally they found a solution for the porblems that no other doctors can solve.

      About

I am a board-certified acupuncturist with experience in needling, Chinese herbal therapy, cupping, moxibustion, and nutritional counseling. Chinese medicine is a complete system of healing, and I have helped clients with a variety of issues, including diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and arthritis. I have also helped clients with pain management, bell's palsy, thyroid conditions, gastrointestinal conditions, migraines, and sleeping issues. I am passionate about helping people help themselves. Chinese medicine is a safe, non-addictive therapy that uses the body's healing mechanisms in order to resolve dysfunction and disease. Improper nutrition, the environment and stress contribute to a slow and often unnoticed state of dysfunction. Allergies, aches and pains, indigestion, weight gain and inconsistencies in sleeping patterns become the "new normal." These seemingly age-related issues are actually signals that your body is not in an optimal state of health. With time, these minor issues may transform into life-changing conditions, such as, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, IBS and ultimately heart disease. Taking care of small changes now will prevent life-altering problems in the future. I look forward to assisting in any way that I am able.

What are the benefits of acupuncture?

There are many proven health benefits of acupuncture, whether you’re seeking short-term relief or need help with a chronic health condition. This alternative healing is likely why millions of adults nationwide get acupuncture treatments each year. Acupuncture provides pain relief, can help speed the body’s natural healing process, and has also been proved to have positive outcomes on mental health concerns such as depression. Acupuncture can also help relieve discomfort associated with chronic and terminal illnesses. For example, acupuncture has been proved to be effective in helping cancer patients manage pain, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, hot flashes, xerostomia (dry mouth), neuropathy (nervous system problems), anxiety, depression and sleep disturbances, according to Cancer.gov. Acupuncture is a safe and effective alternative to opioids and other pain medications, which not only are hard on the body but also present the risk of addiction. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services found that people had less pain or were better able to manage pain when they received acupuncture as part of their health treatment.

      How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works by restoring the body’s natural healing powers. Acupuncture involves placing very thin needles into specific points on the body to influence the body’s energy flow and help the body heal itself in a natural way. In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is linked to the belief that disease is caused by disruptions to the flow of energy (called qi in Chinese) in the body. The acupuncturist places whisper-thin needles into the arms, back, neck and other areas where the chi (or energy flow) has been blocked. The acupuncture needles stimulate points on or under the skin called acupuncture points or acupressure points, releasing this qi. These pathways — called “meridians” — become re-stimulated by the needles to bring blood and healing to the body. In Western medicine, acupuncture has been proved to relieve pain and help provide healing and relief from painful symptoms associated with everything from headaches to asthma to cancer. Western medicine sees the use of the needles as a way to stimulate the body’s nervous system, thereby prompting healing.

Is it safe to use acupuncture?

The general consensus from doctors, researchers and government health organizations is that yes, it is safe to have acupuncture. As with all things, there can be some risks associated with acupuncture, but with proper attention to a few key details, your health should be in good hands when you receive treatments.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (a branch of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services) states that “relatively few complications from using acupuncture have been reported. Still, complications have resulted from use of non-sterile needles and improper delivery of treatments.” Thus, the health risks associated with acupuncture are generally a result of human error (non-sterile needles and improper placement) as opposed to how acupuncture works in your body. Research your acupuncture provider to make sure they meet state regulations, and inquire about the use of FDA-regulated acupuncture needles. These are classified as medical devices for use by licensed practitioners, and the NCCIH states they are required to be manufactured and labeled according to certain standards (sterile, nontoxic, and labeled for single use only).

      What is an acupuncture treatment?

An acupuncture treatment is a type of integrative health care session that uses needles (and sometimes heat and/or electrical stimulation) to stimulate the body’s nervous system to begin a healing process. Long practiced in traditional Chinese medicine and other Eastern cultures, acupuncture has gained widespread acceptance and use as a complementary and integrative part of healing in Western medicine. During an acupuncture treatment, the patient lies in a relaxed position on a table that is very similar to a massage table. The acupuncturist, having done a diagnosis of health concerns and determined a course of treatment, will insert thin stainless steel needles into the prescribed acupuncture points. These points are determined by the patient’s health needs. The practitioner may gently manipulate the needles to trigger a healing response in the body. Typically there is no pain associated with the treatment. A session may use anywhere from 6-30 needles or more, depending on what illness is being treated. The needles can remain in place for 5-30 minutes, with 15 minutes being a common time. Acupuncture treatments are often prescribed in a series, based on patient need.
