Kevin took the time to explain the options once he assessed the job site conditions. Once we settled on the work scope we went to the local hardware store and purchased the required materials. There was an issue with the main line shutoff valve that caused a slow trickle of water. Kevin had to repeatedly drain the water out of the pipes while he soldered various sections of the new pipe. The job took longer than expected because of the water issue. Kevin stuck with it and worked into the evening to finish the job. He also took the time to set the water pressure on the new regulator valve. Excellent craftsmanship.

Had David come over to install a storm door with a dog door for our backyard. I was under the impression the door was assembled when I bought it from home depot. It was not. David not only assembled the door, but fit it on the frame perfectly. The person who installed the previous door did a horrible job, but David's work was perfect. The door was study and flush on the frame. I will be passing his info along to friends. You would be hard pressed to find a better handyman in the Peninsula.

Jose helped me with a clogged shower drain and was very responsive and efficient. I have had this issue before, and Jose was much quicker and more reasonably priced.

Ronnie was very professional and efficient. We had a clogged kitchen drain that had us worried for the past few days. After few unsuccessful attempts at trying to fix it ourselves, we gave in and decided to use Thumbtack to hire a professional. We are glad we called in Ronnie. Even though the clog was deep down the main line and took around 3 hours to fix, Ronnie was patient and explained the issue in detail. He did the job with no mess and cleaned up after. We would definitely recommend him to other people with similar issues.

Marytnn was excellent. He phoned and we were able to deduce the issue and come to a very reasonable quote. He came the same day (and earlier than expected) and got the job done. If you have little people in your house that like to drop things down the drain, definitely give Martynn Plumbing and Drain Cleaning a call!

Gleo was very responsive and professional. We hired him to help with our clogged bathroom shower and sink and he came out to snake and un clog both. He was super friendly, got everything done in a timely manner, and was very affordable. Now our water is going down the drain smoothly and we are so happy with Gleo’s work! Thank you Handyman Gleo!!

I had a water leak issue that was coming through my downstairs ceiling. Issue was due to a backed up shower drain line. Found Vyron on Thumbtack and he contacted that evening to set a time to come by an assess the job. I also needed base Board for the downstairs as well as reinstalling tile in 4 spots from a previous radiant floor heating leak. Vyron was right on time. His quote was very reasonable so I hired him. The time Vyron arranged to begin my repairs was again, right on time. He immediately began his work with a crew. He unclogged the shower drain, removed the damaged drywall and reinstalled new drywall. Installed all the base board and reinstalled the tile. He quoted a time frame of 6-8 hours. He completed everything in 7 hours. He and his crew were very clean and organized. Vyron is professional and friendly. I highly recommend Vyron Salinas. Thanks Brett Larson

I had a clogged shower drain and Max sent two of his plumbers (Chris and Corey) the next business day to fix it. They were professional and courteous. Unfortunately, the issue was more severe than expected, but Chris found a workaround that will hopefully be less expensive. Some follow up work still needs to be done, but I'm hopeful that it won't be too involved.

Gustavo was prompt and very thorough. I had him do clean up and hauling away yard debris, planting, fix plumbing and electrical, etc. It was a 2 day job and he and his team did great. I'm hiring him back next week for other related projects and I guess re-hiring someone without reservation is the ultimate compliment.

Dinh did an excellent job installing a new Bradford White heater. He had the best price for the heater and installation of the three contractors I contacted. He is apparently a pretty busy guy, so it is best to follow up on him to keep things rolling along. I will recommend him to my friends.

We had a two-sided sink installed in our garage. This involved running copper hot and cold water pipes, running a drain to existing pipes, and mounting the sink to a concrete wall. Also ask to caulk/seal all sinks, toilets and bathtubs in the house. Gerardo was very professional and did a great job.

Mohammed was wonderful to have around to help us get our new home together. He went above and beyond - while he was here, our drain clogged. He got down there and quickly resolved the issue without complaint. He was able to hang all of our curtain rods, a very heavy mirror, he did electrical, whatever we needed done, he did it. When given the opportunity, we will hire him again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
