White Residential Services was the first to respond and quoted a reasonable price. The work was of high quality and I was very satisfied with the final product. While I had Steven White install appliances and work on plumbing under 5 sinks I found that he can do just about any type of home project. I would recommend White Residential Service for any home project that takes a professional and skilled craftsmen. I will hire him again.

I got an extremely prompt response from Sam's Services when I first sent my request out in Thumbtack. I was able to make an appointment for the day and time I wanted. The day of my appointment I received a message that the technician was on the way. He came to the door and introduced himself and put on shoe covers to protect my floors. He had the parts needed to fix my dishwasher door and it was done quickly and perfectly. He had me check to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. I had thought of another appliance that I needed an adjustment to and he was able to do that on this visit, too. My dryer door needed to be changed so that it opened from the other side. No parts were needed, but it took some time and effort. This was done with care and then I was again shown what had been done and to make sure all was to my satisfaction. I was very satisfied with the service and would use Sam's Services again and also recommend Sam's Services for anyone requiring an appliance repair and they also do HVAC service.

Hector at Ace Appliance provided excellent and fast service and excellent work quality. My compact sized kenmore dryer broke down months ago and needed to be replaced. Hector diagnosed the problem, found the replacement compact dryer/washer by the next morning and came back the following morning with the new dryer/washer and installed it for me. All taken care of quickly, professionally and excellent quality work with no hassle for me. I highly recommend you hire Hector at Ace Aplliance for any appliance work.Hector is very responsive, shows up on time, is honest, hard working and says what he’s going to do and does it within the time frame he tells you and he does an excellent job at a reasonable price. I will definitely hire Hector again for all my appliance repair needs and will recommend him to anyone I know who needs his service. This was also my first time using thumbtack and glad I did. Thanks so much Hector!

I don't write reviews, but this one is warranted. I am a landlord and own multiple properties. I was floored, when David called me and told me he recommends Nothing for my dishwasher. Most, if not all service people would have "found something wrong", recommended the replacement of some part(s), a "service cleaning", or something! Dne appliance repair/David, was honest, and told me what I suspected--I have a nitpicky tenant. Beyond recommending no work, parts, or service,... his only recommendation was to control my nitpicky tenant. I was only charged the service fee, which was lower than others I found. This was my first time using Dne Appliance, but it will not be my last. Honesty goes a long way with me. I will use their service for all my rentals, including my personal home.

Called to get someone out to look at my relatively new refrigerator that had stopped making ice. OC Appliance Masters were professional and helpful on the phone and sent technician to the rescue. Nick was charming, efficient and very patient. He told me that he could replace the ice maker and quoted me a price. But before buying the new ice maker, he said he wanted to call the manufacturer to see if they had any recalls on the product. The manufacturer confirmed that there were no recalls, but told Nick that sometimes the line in the freezer door becomes frozen and if you defrost the unit, that can resolve the issue. Nick suggested that we follow those instructions before making such an expensive repair and to call him to report back to him. We did that and discovered that the ice maker was actually fine. The problem was that the freezer was not getting cold enough to make ice and that the problem exists elsewhere. When we called Nick back, he found all of that very interesting and said that he could come out to diagnose and repair the issue, but a better course of action was to call the place we purchased the unit and get an authorized repair guy for our brand of refrigerator. We appreciate the fact that Nick was so honest and diligent in calling the manufacturer. He was also consultative and trying to help us diagnose the issue even though he was not going to get a repair fee beyond what we had initially paid him. Even though Nick didn't technically repair anything for us, he gets BIG points for his honesty, something you are never quite sure about when hiring someone in this capacity. For the $35 service call, we gained valuable insight and an appliance repair person for life. Thank you, Nick!

I submitted a request for an appliance repair technician and, in less than two hours, Sergio arrived to diagnose and fix our Samsung refrigerator. After leaving to purchase parts, he returned that afternoon to repair the fridge and now it works perfectly. Problem solved! Sergio was efficient and professional and we are very happy.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
