Right off the bat, I'd like to say that our experience and quality was excellent.
We moved to the desert about 18 months ago and the pool in our new house had some issues. The glass block of the spa dam was cracked, tile was falling off and the heater stopped working a few months after we moved in, There were also spider cracking and dark spots on our plaster.
This month, I decided that it was finally time to address the pool issues. I contacted 4 pool companies, one did not return my call, another took over a month to get back to me with quotes. Handel Caballero, the owner of Handel's pool service, who I found through Thumbtack got back to me within hours. He came over the same day and by that evening I had a quote. No chasing or follow-up required on my part.
Based on feedback from several sources, I decided that it was time bite the bullet to resurface the 17 year old plaster of the pool.
Handel was extremely accommodating and took me around to see several pools that he had renovated. It was all beautiful work.
He asked me to go on a web site and choose tiles and he would bring me the samples, also pretty fantastic because I didn't have to schlep out to the showroom. I was also able to put the tile samples in the water to get a better idea of how they would look.
Amongst the tile samples that Handel brought was one I did not choose. It was a natural stone mosaic. I would have never even considered it had it not brought it over. I give him credit because he has extremely good taste, plus it was within the budget I had set. In the end, it's the tile we chose. He also brought me samples of the pebble finish so I could see them in the water.
Here's the extraordinary timeline for how the project unfolded:
Sunday - I decided to hire Handel's Pool Service
Monday- Men showed up to drain the pool.
Tuesday - A crew arrived to demolish the existing plaster, tile and spa dam and build a new dam.
Wednesday - Tiling completed. Autofill I decided to add installed. Start installing the new heater.
Thursday - Pebble finish the surface of the pool. Finish heater install. Start installation of the new electronic control panel and new lights.
Friday - Acid wash the pool. Finish electronic panel install. Fill the pool
Saturday - Renovation completed.
I am thrilled with the work, the attentiveness and quality.
I have also decided to hire Handel's pool service to do our regular pool maintenance.
All in all a fantastic experience. Handel never steered me wrong and I have no qualms at all in recommending him.
