Michelle is a warm and inviting person who made me feel comfortable very quickly. She has been a great mentor and helped me overcome many obstacles in the aftermath of a serious life event I experienced. I felt I could be me without any concern for fear of how she may react. I have done traditional therapy but have preferred her holistic approach to combining therapy with a goal oriented approach to solving problems one may be experiencing. I have been able to get to a much better place in my life thanks to her support and the perspective she helps me obtain through self reflection. She encourages you just enough to help you push past your self-set limits without ever feeling like she is pushing you past your boundaries. Somehow, I always get to the realization I need on my own terms but with the help of her encouragement. I love her approach and feel that her respectful manner along with her warm, understanding attitude creates a space for one to really get down to one's core and find one's self in the process. She has truly been a gift to my life.

Excellent experience. She arrived on time and had all needed supplies and equipment. She displayed advance knowledge of her art and for the first time a massage has addressed the problem areas with pain and true stress relief. I highly suggest Robin for her advanced practice massage therapy. Denise

From: Dr. Steven Bartz My background in medicine spans over 30 years. Based in hard sciences, my first job was as a respiratory therapist working primarily in critical care units and E.R.’s. My doctorate is in chiropractic. The concept of “Reiki” seemed rather fringe and suspect to me at first. Then I began to study this concept, I came to realize that this system is actually based on modern day application of quantum physics, meaning that all life is based on energy substrates. Reiki to my understanding is based on manipulating these energy fields in a manner somewhat similar to how I manipulate the joints to affect the neurological system. My skepticism was thoroughly addressed when out of desperation and suffering for several years with debilitating back pain, “Yes, the irony is not lost in that of a chiropractor with a bad back.” I sought the treatment of Reiki by Katherine McBride. I have to say I’m rather amazed that in only 3 sessions I experienced a 80% (at least) improvement in symptoms. Now, due to my own positive results, I refer my patients to her for therapy. She is now available to see and schedule appointments through my office and the feed-back I have received from these patients has been overwhelmingly positive. Sincerely, Dr. Steven Bartz D.C.

I started trainingwith Mary 2 years ago. Her education and approach is well rounded. Not only did she help me reach my weight loss goal, I've kept it off! She motivates and educates in a fun friendly manner! If you have food or physical restrictions, she can customize to your needs. I love that she looks at the whole person when helping her clients achieve their goals. Beyond the fitness training, I've done aroma therapy, transformational breath work and nutritional counseling with her. She's fantastic at facilitating healing in the body and mind. She's got the energy of a healer!

I have been getting deep tissue massages for relaxation and pain management for many years. Having recently moved to the OC area, I was very leery about trying out a new massage therapist. Well I didn’t need to be leery because it was a fantastic experience!!!! Skyy paid special attention to every problem area I had earlier mentioned to him, and he made sure he asked me several times during the session if the amount of pressure was ok, etc. It was such a pleasure to have such a positive experience on this first session because now I will be looking forward to coming back to him on a regular basis for my massage therapy! If anyone out there reading this is looking for a skilled massage therapist, then look no further, and give Royal King Touch a call right now and schedule some time to get something positive done for YOU-you won’t be sorry!!! Functionality! Having worked with Kz (I should get copyrights on that name since I started using it with her, what, 6 years ago?!! In all seriousness, Kz does what she does with such intuitive friendliness and grace that I sometimes forget I'm getting a massage as well. I'm a manic painter who will do hours/days painting and be an aching sore mess afterward. All these years later I ty not to take it for granted that I leave every session having had a FANTASTIC MASSAGE. I am not just refreshed, but invigorated; I'm in tune with my body, my feelings, and my muse. I've also come to know that I spent some very real time with a real, loving woman who listens without judgment, offers sage advice when appropriate and for that time we share together it is only us. Kz is truly empathic! I honestly feel she has helped me in so many ways beyond the therapy of her physical massage. The therapy of her being: being completely with me and working through my physical, mental, spiritual, psychic ( I hadn't been that open to metaphysical concepts before) and artistic knots (now knowing they are all connected) is something I cannot put a value upon. If Kz was not such a great mom, wife and human--she would be a superstar. She should be a superstar! She is as good as it gets. I'm thankful for our sessions, but I'm so blessed to call her friend!

I have experienced several sessions so far. Every time it has been incredibly professional, incredibly profound, and incredibly helpful. The best part about this form of healing is knowing that it's my higher self taking care of what I'm able to accept in that moment and having a trained facilitator only validates the experiences I have. This form of healing satisfies me so much I no longer feel the need to do other methods. But that is just me and my preferences. I like how clear this feels, how balanced this feels, and how loving this feels. -Erin

I highly recommend Vanessa as a massage therapist! She is a trained professional who listens to your concerns and cares about helping you to heal. She follows up with you to see how you are feeling and helps you to understand what you need, how to stretch at home, what oils to use, etc. I was looking for someone to help me heal as my immune system has been compromised along with a high level of inflammation. It started in early April when I woke up one morning barely able to move. Weeks later, I found myself shopping for a cane. After two major surgeries over the last couple years followed by months of extreme stress at work, it was likely the perfect storm that caused me to crash. I was referred to a Rheumatologist with the possibility of Fibromyalgia. After many tests and X-rays, I do not qualify for any particular diagnosis, but am being put in the RA bucket to allow for certain medications which includes a chemo drug that will likely bring on other issues due to the side effects. Thank goodness I found Vanessa! I had my third massage today. After my second one last week, I immediately noticed that I was walking normal again, smoothly and without hesitation. My hips are starting to realign and the oils she is using are designed to reduce inflammation. Vanessa knows exactly what to do and can identify the areas that need extra help. Much is written about massage therapy and healing, including anti-inflammatory issues like mine. If you are having chronic issues, feel the need to detox, or simply want to indulge in a little pampering that will also benefit your health, this is a great place to get back on track. I can't express what it feels like to have new hope and natural options to pursue. You might ask her to tell you the story about her Grandfather and what she was able to do for him. Such a great story and you will feel encouraged. Signed, Grateful, working professional Orange County

It gives me great pleasure to recommend Alyne Rose Keller as a massage therapist. Her massages are very special because she not only puts her skillful hands to work, but she puts her heart and soul into the process. It is obvious that she gets as great a pleasure out of helping her clients as they do from receiving her massages. A mutual friend said that when Alyne gives her a massage, Alyne is not only relaxing her muscles, but, in a soothing voice, is relaxing her mental tensions. I have had the pleasure of having massages from Alyne over the last few years, and I can testify that they are as beneficial to one's mental attitude as to one's aching muscles I recommended Alyne's work to a friend who was tied up in knots, and after the massage from Alyne she said she was totally relaxed again. If you are stressed with the strifes of daily frustrations and tensions, I cannot recommend a better cure than a massage from Alyne Rose Keller. Sincerely Sam Catalano

IF YOUR A CROSSFITTER OR WEIGHTLIFTER PLEASE SEE THIS MAN!! I'm a current weightlifter in the 105 kg category. I'm a bigger sized guy so a lot of previous massages were just feel good type of massages. They really did not help the deep deep muscle and tissue that i needed. Bob was very welcoming and very knowledgeable. The DMS was so good I literally felt like the tightness on my shoulders and mid back were released. Being a weightlifter I mainly use my legs as a source of power. Bob was very good at locating and destroying my quads, calves and hip flexors. Now what I mean by destroy I mean in the absolute best way. Weightlifting for years has kept my lower body extremely tight. With that in mind he really had to go deep and it was painful sometimes yet super effective. Man I stood up and felt taller. It was incredible. On top of the great work he did, he also showed me a few stretches to keep me loose and open. I will be continuing to work with him on my athletic career. I believe with his help and helping me gain circulation and movement that I can possibly break an american world record. Only time will tell. If your reading this review do not hesitate to call Bob.

Amelia watched our pittie Chewy while we were out of the country for two weeks. Chewy was adopted only a few months prior to our trip and we were worried about leaving him. He has allergies, dog aggression issues, and is not the easiest dog to handle on walks. Well, we didn’t need to worry. Amelia took care of Chewy as if he were her own dog. She kept his allergies in check, took him on plenty of walks and gave him loads of love. She handled his aggression issues like a pro. She sent us pictures of all the fun she and Chewy were having, which made us feel at ease. Chewy had a great time! I highly recommend Amelia!

As someone who was once a yoga novice, never athletic, it was no surprise that I found myself injured from my vinyasa yoga class. Injuries from yoga are actually very common because yoga is not one-size-fits-all and most yoga classes are too large for the instructor to adjust everyone. This experience has led me to pursue my passion of health and balance by tailoring yoga and nutrition/lifestyle for the individual.

There is no better way to "Relax Your Soul" through yoga, followed by a massage, either done together or separately.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

  • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
  • Nutritional medicine
  • Botanical medicine
  • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
  • Hygiene
  • Counseling
  • Minor surgery
  • Homeopathy
  • Acupuncture
  • Intravenous and injection therapy
  • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

  • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
    • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
  • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
    • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
    • Do I need a referral?
    • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
    • What will the co-pay be?
    • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
  • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
