Before I went to Thinque Prep, I had struggled to overcome my slump and achieved nothing greater than a score of 30 on the ACT. I struggled studying by myself as I did not know how to improve my scores, nor did I know how to improve my time on certain sections. However, after I joined Thinque Prep, I was able to achieve my goal of an ACT score greater than a 34 or above, a 36. My tutor Joyee helped me understand ACT questions instead of memorizing rules or equations, which most tutors do. I find this style of tutoring more efficient and easier to remember. Overall, I am thankful to Joyee for preparing me well enough to achieve a perfect score on the ACT and making me a stronger college applicant.

Working with Eric and Elite Home Tutoring could not have been a better experience. Eric was amazingly responsive to any questions I had and he paired my son with a terrific tutor (Bri) for his ACT test. The prices are very fair and I will definitely be using EHT again.

Working with Elida has been a true pleasure. I have had many spanish tutors but none that really focus on a subject until you have it down! She is a wonderful teacher who is easy to talk to and has a wonderful, fluid way of teaching. I look forward to every class!

I don't have enough words to talk about how much I love working with Elsa. She is more then just a Spanish teacher, she feels more like family to me now. She is always prompt, brings fun and energizing lessons each week, and keeps it tailored to my goals and personalizes it to your learning style. I have only been with her for a few months and I couldn't have learned what I know now from any book or impersonal class. Im looking forward to many more lessons to come.

Emilio has been a great Spanish tutor during my summer living in LA! He was really flexible about location and time, and working around my work schedule. It's clear that he has experience teaching because he's able to work through the lessons in a comprehensive way while also giving in the moment feedback on pronunciation and grammar. My Spanish has seen significant improvements over the last 8 weeks. Highly recommend!

I was tutored in Spanish 2. Vanessa was absolutely amazing. She was very clear and explained everything until I fully understood it. Spanish made no sense to me before working with her and now I understand Spanish grammar. I went from failing Spanish to doing super great. I went from failing my midterm to then getting an 82% on my final! I’m so glad Vanessa tutored me. I highly recommend her.

It’s my best Spanish tutor I ever had!! I had 3 tutors before i found Pablo, non of my tutors that I had before were explaining that well and easy. I love his lessons structures and the system that he uses for explaining Spanish grammar. My Spanish improved a lot! Love his classes and always looking forward for the next one.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
