After two visits, my typically shy kids are already sitting on Emily’s lap!!!! Very happy with Emily S — great with my furry kids, calm energy, very responsive, and love the photos and updates!! Nervous at first - but feeling thankful to know my kids are getting care during some very long work days!! Very profession and detailed organization. 🐾❤️🙏🌟

Had a deep cleaning throughout the house. My white kitchen grout looked new again. They even took the time to vacuum my couch.

I can't say enough good things about Posh Paws! Laura is AMAZING! She is so accommodating and has been a lifesaver for me and the pups. She always makes room at her house for my pups, even when I contact her last minute. My dogs love going to her place and they are already so comfortable in her home. It's also a HUGE plus that she has a back yard and doggy door! Laura knows how to handle all types of animals and she knows how to read their personalities. One of my dogs is sort of moody, and she knows how to deal with his crazy personality and weird moods! In the past, it's been hard for me to find a person that understands him, but Laura picked up on his personality quirks right away!! She is so patient and loving towards my animals, and I could not think of a better place for them to go every week! Laura is great with texting me updates, pictures and videos. She always responds quickly to my calls and texts! If you are looking for any kind of help with your furbabies, Posh Paws is the only option. Laura is the best!!!

I’m so glad I have found Trina to be my pet sitter. She is very reliable, trustworthy, and professional. I am a nurse and work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week so Trina comes to my house to take my little chihuahua potty, feed her, and keep her company. I know my little fur baby is in good hands while I am away and best of all, I know that I can trust Trina in my home. Not to mention her rates are amazing, especially when I leave on vacation! I always book her to spend the night at my house to pet sit and house sit! So awesome! I would recommend Trina to anyone. You won’t be disappointed!

Francis responded within 10 minutes of my request, we set a date and time online via chat, and then she arrived right on time. She spent 5 hours at my house (I asked for a deep clean) and it looks great. Shower doors are like new! I definitely recommend Brilliant Clean!

“ Amy has been dog sitting and housesitting for us almost two years, and she does a wonderful job. Our dog Bristol, 15 years old, requires special care. He is a mixed breed with a very shaggy coat that needs a lot of brushing, and he can’t see or hear very well. Amy gives him the special attention and slow walks he needs. Our other dog, Lola, is a Boston Terrier, full of energy but with dietary restrictions. She loves to play tug of war with Amy. Both of them are always very happy to see Amy. The texts and photos of our dogs while we are away help us keep in touch. And when we return from our trips, the house seems cleaner than when we left! No one will be disappointed with Amy’s professional services. — Cheryl N

Angie is heaven sent. My two dogs greet her with so much love & joy, it makes my heart sing! She has been so helpful with dogsitting at my place and even more extraordinarily with helping me get started with my very own dog walking service in Los Angeles. I learned so much from her example. Angie is the kind of person who has driven to Mexico from California to get much needed affordable veterinary care for a cat who turned up on her doorstep. She helped a traumatized pitbull recover in her home when he crossed her path and soon after she adopted him. She also helped me with an insurance claim when I worked with a rescue dog who got into an incident. Angie is a resourceful, reliable, trustworthy person and you can add all the virtues on her name and those will ring true.

Sam has always done a great job pet sitting my two dogs, as well as providing daily walks and playtime for them. He's a true animal lover and now he is the only one I trust him with "my babies" for their daily care and overnight care when needed.

Hired Alex to pet sit our cats while we went out of town last weekend. Was nervous to leave our fur babies with just anyone; however, upon meeting Alex at our consultation, I knew she was someone I could trust. Alex is very professional, accommodating and reliable! She also kept us up to date on how our cats were doing and sent pictures of them while they were under her care! Would highly recommend Alex and look forward to having her take care our fur babies in the future!!!

    About

Hi, my name is Lindsay Honea. I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University this last December 2013 with honors and a bachelor's in liberal studies (teaching arts) and decided to get into the business field! I am currently enrolled in Point Loma's graduate MBA (Masters in Business Administration) program. I am also a member and leader of the track team at PLNU and will move into a coaching position next year. I love house and pet sitting and a chance to get out of my little apartment. It reminds me more of being home when I am in a place that has been loved and cared for by a family. I also love animals, and they only add to this feeling of being home as I am from a ranch/farm in Arizona and was surrounded by them growing up. It offers me a mini vacation as well as a break from my apartment. I live and work in San Diego, so I am available when needed. I have also been a trusted nanny/babysitter for many families over the years and am wanting to transition to more house/pet sitting. I think that it says a lot that families have trusted me with their little ones! I am also very active and greatly enjoy taking dogs for runs/walks if asked to and have a lot of experience with many different kinds of animals. In general, I perform the jobs that are needed in house/pet sitting. I have great problem-solving skills, and I am very responsible and organized and will leave your place as neat if not more than it was when you left it with me. I can definitely be trusted to take care or your home and pets!

    About

Hello! My name is Natalia, and I would love to find a family who needs help taking care of their children or pets. I am a full-time college student and have years of experience of being a care provider for two twin boys and multiple pets.

    About

I specialize in house sitting. I began this career in Malibu, CA. I am available to live in your home short or long term. I am quiet, gentle and lovingly. I can watch over your home, your treasured belongings and plants. I can coordinate and supervise your cleaning and gardening staff. I can pay your bills or any other requests you have during your leave. Please contact me for availability.

    About

I am a college student, doing odd jobs. I am intelligent, mannerly and reliable.

    About

My services stand out because I currently work alongside a Certified Canine Behavior and Training Specialist at a doggy daycare and have worked there for 3 years. Working here I have gained so much knowledge and understanding about different breeds that your average pet sitter just wouldn't know. On top of that I have had personal experience house/dog sitting for over 8 years. I can provide great references if requested and above all I love animals of all shapes, sizes, and ages . Although I currently work with dogs I own a cat and understand the needs cats require as well. I am more than capable working with high energy dogs and understand some breeds require more exercise than others. I am also more than confident in giving a pet medication if needed. I like to say that if you can physically pill a cat, pilling a dog is a walk in the park! My main goal at the end of the day is to make your pet feel comfortable and less stressed while you are away. My favorite part of this is interacting hands on with your pet and getting to know their unique personality. I will take the time to make sure that they are happy and being well taken care of. Pet sitting is so much more than simply sitting in someone's house and ignoring the pet they are supposed to be taking care of. I pride myself in the fact that I do care and want to interact and give your pet the social/mental stimulation they deserve.

    About

I have grown up doing a variety of services that include babysitting, pet sitting, and house-sitting.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

    • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
    • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
    • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
