Lori came to our Babe we are home to care for our two boys. She is a wonderful cat caregiver. I recommend her for pet sitting any time. She will send pictures and photos of your pets every day. That is so thoughtful of her.

After two visits, my typically shy kids are already sitting on Emily’s lap!!!! Very happy with Emily S — great with my furry kids, calm energy, very responsive, and love the photos and updates!! Nervous at first - but feeling thankful to know my kids are getting care during some very long work days!! Very profession and detailed organization. 🐾❤️🙏🌟

No one could ask for a better person to watch their home and dog while on vacation. Juliet is just awesome. Our dog was very comfortable with her and had a wonderful time while we were gone. We had used different house/dog sitters the previous two years and Juliet was a vast improvement over both of them. We came home to a happy dog plus a house that actually had a few decorating improvements added to it. Juliet will now be our house/dog sitter every time we travel. A perfect 10!!!

Heather stayed at our house for a week to watch our two dogs and the fish. She did everything that I asked of her and more. I returned to two dogs who were happy and well taken care of. When I was away, the pest control people came to take care of our ant problem and asked that we water granules that they left in our front bushes. Heather took care of that for us without even being asked to do so. Heather went above and beyond to do a great job. I would definitely recommend her.

Mandy looked after our 2 cats while we went to visit family for 5 days and she was AWESOME! First of all she was very punctual, and super easy to communicate with which made it easy to make the last minute arragements. Second, yet most important, she was GREAT with the cats! One of our cats is very attached and would get really worried and depressed when we would leave, and the other one is very shy and usually hides around strangers, but not this time! They were both happy as can be!! She later described a few things about the cats that she wouldn't have known unless she was spending quality time with them and that I know our cats wouldn't do unless they were comfortable and trusting of her. Mandy just has a very easy going, calming and kind personality that really put both the cats and myself at ease. She also managed to send us regular updates, even though it was nearly impossible to reach us where we were. She sent some photos as well, and I could just tell the cats were 100% content. It was so great not having to worry! We will definitely be calling her again since now I can actually look forward to our next trips rather than dreading having to leave my favorite fuzz balls with someone. Oh, and on top of all that she kept the house super tidy and clean(I think even better than when we left). So without a doubt, I would recommend Mandy to anyone and everyone who is looking for a pet sitter they can trust. Thanks again Mandy!!!

Our girls (2 bichons) had the best time with Renee. We know they have a friend for life (and they don't like everyone). Before our trip Renee stopped by to meet the girls. I was impresses with the way she so quickly bonded with them. I highly recommend Renee and we will be using her for all our dog sitting. Thanks Renee!

I was in San Diego for 8 yrs thanks to the Navy. I bought a house and accumulated quite a bit of things to make my house to a home. Now that I am being stationed on the east coast and needed to get the house together for an open house. Hired Peak of Performance by recommendation from a friend and honestly I am extremely satisfied with the results. They were very professional and punctual. Being in the military punctuality is a big thing. After they finish cleaning my house I didnt recognize my house at all. Everything was emaculate and well put together. I definitely recommend them to everyone.

I was very satisfied with Gayle Brigham. She took care of my cats and spent time interacting with them in addition to feeding and litter cleanup. I had a full detailed report and she also went the extra mile and shoveled snow near the front door. I won't hesitate to call on her again. A real sweetheart.

“ Amy has been dog sitting and housesitting for us almost two years, and she does a wonderful job. Our dog Bristol, 15 years old, requires special care. He is a mixed breed with a very shaggy coat that needs a lot of brushing, and he can’t see or hear very well. Amy gives him the special attention and slow walks he needs. Our other dog, Lola, is a Boston Terrier, full of energy but with dietary restrictions. She loves to play tug of war with Amy. Both of them are always very happy to see Amy. The texts and photos of our dogs while we are away help us keep in touch. And when we return from our trips, the house seems cleaner than when we left! No one will be disappointed with Amy’s professional services. — Cheryl N

Ellen has been so great! My pets liked her immediately and didn't even bark at her. She takes my dog to the park for walks and visits with my cats. She has never missed a visit and she goes above and beyond her duties. If there is an accident, she handles it. She feeds everyone and takes care of the litter and even leaves me a log of what she has done for the day. She took out my trash and brought in my mail while I was gone and she is very trustworthy. I hope to have a long pet sitting relationship with her and our family :)

I have 4 purry furry cats aging from 6 to 16 years old. I hate going away because I always think my babies are going to fall victim to something horrible and I won't be there for them. They all have different personalities and needs that require a personal touch. My youngest has to play a while each day or she will try to turn my nervous and timid Calico Manx into a confetti colored chew toy. Bunny, the Manx, has issues with her stomach and has a special diet. When she is spooked she pees, that is something I want checked by someone knowledgeable about cats. My boy cat had kidney surgery last summer and it's necessary to make sure he isn’t having pain or appetite issues. Our eldest cat conscripts the others into shenanigans and this often means we come home to find that she has discovered a food we didn’t know was available and made it into a buffet. She is small, looks innocent, but is wily with a plan in the works every moment. These are the reasons I can't just drop and go, I need to know they are cared for or I can't enjoy my time away. I am afraid they will change the locks and rule the roost if we don’t feed them routinely. I can’t take the chance the freeloaders won’t get into trouble if left alone or to the care of someone who just comes by to fill their dishes. Lori gave me the best price quote on Thumbtack and had a great conversation with me via messages making my selection easy. She arrived at our home and met with my husband and furries to go over our routine and meet each of our cats a few days before we left. She was well loved by our more social kitties and my husband said she had great vibes. Good vibes is important to me because I want someone who is compassionate taking care of my babies. While we were away Lori came 3 times a day to feed, play, and clean their box. After every visit she sent me a photo and a status update. She replied promptly when I had comments or questions leaving me feeling like everything was under control. It meant everything to me to hear her tell me what she had experienced in each visit because she was caring for what is most important in my life: my family. When I arrived home there was a note from her with a kind message about her enjoyment in caring for my cats, saying how beautiful and sweet they are (they had her fooled because she didn’t mention sly and devious). Our big Angora was so soft when we came home I was convinced she had spent most of her visits petting him. He confirmed this suspicion when he kept by the door waiting for her to return rather than joining me for Mommytime. The cost of our sitting and care was cheap in my opinion. It was obvious that Lori and Pawprints aren’t trying to take advantage of our need for a sitter by trying to nickel and dime us. Some of the quotes I received for caring for my cats was astronomical for 3 days, one was over $400 for 9 visits. Our entire weekend of Lori’s incredible care cost us only $175. Before we moved we had a fantastic sitter who was comparable in care fees and care quality we just received from Pawprints. We are truly blessed to have found Lori, as we were to find Ashley previously. I will be using Pawprints service in the future and I feel so much more confident to go places knowing Lori will be caring for my babies.

Our pups love Paradise Pet Care. The pet sitters are friendly and trustworthy, and take such good care of our two dogs. We never have to worry about them when we travel. They get lots of walks and TLC - and we get lots of updates (love the photos!). I highly recommend the Paradise Pet Care team if you need pet sitters or dog walkers.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

  • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
  • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
  • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
