First guy came out and thought problem solved. Was not, called owner and he came out personally. He solved the problem and even said "if I can't fix it I will give you your money back". He fixed it and he was less than his competitors. Would I use him again? ABSOLUTELY! !! If you need duct cleaning call this company. Tom P.

Wow. Stellar experience from start to finish. The furnace went out during one of the coldest weeks of the year. I answered a few simple questions on Thumbtack and within minutes I got a few responses. The guys from Aire-Rite not only responded with a text, but also a call. They were out the next morning within the time window they gave me and provided a diagnosis, recommendation and estimate. It wasn't good - needed a new furnace and AC unit (both were quite old). They installed both units and a new thermostat the same day. QUALITY workmanship. They left everything better than they found it (above and beyond, to say the least). The only thing I can't really rate is the price. Based on the weather and the fact that it was a full outage I had to do something quickly and didn't have time to really shop around. I'm not saying the price was high - I just simply don't know. But I couldn't have asked for anyone more responsive or any better quality work. I may need some plumbing work done soon and I will definitely be calling Aire-Rite.

Very pleased with our bathroom remodel! He worked quickly and did a great job. Ran into a sink valve issue and even with that everything was done in a couple days as promised, just in time for our party! Tile floor, baseboards, new toilet, drywall texture patching, vanity, mirror, faucet, and backsplash all came out great. He even re-caulked our shower to seal it properly. Would definitely recommend and will hire him again.

We had a leak out by our sprinkler main and we had All Pro come out to take a look at it. The tech sent out was Joseph Alarcon and he did a fantastic job. He repaired the pipe & cleaned up everything before he left. He was such a pleasant person to be around and always had a smile on his face. The price was very resonable and I will highly recommend him and All Pro to all my friends and family.

My husband and I needed a company to expand our driveway and adjust/repair sprinklers so we have full coverage because the lawn was dying. I got plenty of bids on this job. DG construction was very reasonable with their prices. David promised me they would start at 7 am the following day. Sure enough right on time the crew arrived at my home. They worked 12 hours straight to get the job done in two days. David went above and beyond to repair this tile that broke from my home and replaced the cylicone around my kitchen sink to prevent leaks. I didn't even ask for his help but he did anyways. This company is very trustworthy and honest. The job was done in a timely manner for the price agreed upon. I am definitely keeping their contact information for any future contractor needs. I highly recommend this company.

Because did such a nice job, I had him remove and install two bath faucets one of which needed more repair than I thought. He also repaired my tub faucet which I knew needed lots of work. Kevin was fantastic. He showed up right on time, knew exactly what he was doing and completely fixed the problem. He was thorough and cleaned up the work area. Then he fixed a problem with my stovetop vent that another handyman told me would cost hundreds of dollars. He fixed it in a minute and didn't charge me. I figured while I had him here, he might as well do a partial clean on the outlet end of our dryer duct and he did a great job on that also. On top of being knowledgeable and capable, he's also a very nice young man. Will be using him again for sure. Thank you Kevin!

I spoke to Pablo who answered my questions and accommodated my schedule during a holiday weekend. Technician Alex came out on a Saturday to give the estimate and then to repair my broken heating duct and install dampers in my duct work to help regulate heat flow. Great service, trustworthy and reasonable prices.

Had multiple contractors come out to give us an evaluation/quote on our HVAC system. Everyone except TJ came in and started telling me what I needed without listening to what my problems and issues were with the system. TJ took the time to listen to what my issues were and recommended a couple solutions to fix. We ultimately replaced the entire system (compressor, furnace, etc) and added a new duct line and vent register. TJ rerouted the gas line to our furnace, relocated and hung the furnace in our attic, installed a smart thermostat in a new location, and more. His crew is very friendly and they all work quickly. They leave the work site cleaner than when they arrived which is so nice. Their quotes are very reasonable compared to what the other contractors were quoting. TJ even checked in the next week after everything was complete to make sure I was happy with the new system! I would highly recommend giving TJ a call for any and all of your HVAC needs.

Alex did a wonderful job installing a new air conditioning and heater in my home. He didnot try to up sale me with a more expensive unit. His crew was very professional and did a through cleanup afterwards. I highly recommend Alex for any air or heating work. Alex installed my parents Air/Cooling system. I then had Alex add a zone control system which saves on my electric bill. Alex's pricing is very fair and you won't go wrong with his service.

Was initially hesitant because of the lack of reviews. Am very happy I chose them though! Ralph install a whole new central air system in my old 1948 house which didn't have one. I chose the Trane. Good work ethics, meticulous and kept my house clean thoughout the work process. Communication is excellent! He lets us know what he's going to do and answers all questions patiently. Also flexible with our schedule. A/C works great and his price is the lowest too among the five that gave their bids! Thanks Ralph!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

  • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
  • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
  • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
  • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
  • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
  • Ductwork properly protected.
  • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

  • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
    • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
    • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
    • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
  • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
  • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.
