Did not have a great experience. Mario as a person was very friendly however the project did not turn out as anticipated. We agreed beforehand that he would be able to do everything asked which was matching the floor of the rest of the house to the master bedroom. After two days of work, the room he finished did not match the bedroom at all. He said he thought it looked better than the bedroom but that is not what we asked for -- we specifically asked that it looked like the master bedroom! UPDATE: Ookay, here we go. As per Mario's update below I'm going to respond because you guys should all be aware before hiring him: 1. I am an assistant -- my boss, the owner of the property was always aware of what was going on. I sent them updates and pictures on progress throughout the entire thing. The "finished" room Mario presented me on the second day was NOT AT ALL what we asked him to do. He even wrote in his response: "The room you are stating you wanted matched had stains, patching etc.. so how could you possibly want that matched. Just didn't make any sense which is why we wish our dealings would have been with the owners, not a child that is house sitting for the owners." THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED FROM YOU. It does NOT matter what YOU thought it should look like -- I asked you MULTIPLE times in advance that the finished floors would look like the master bedroom and you said it would. Because that is what the owners wanted. Is it because of my young age that you didn't take this request seriously? Because that is 100% on you. 2. I have the text messages between us where I ask you multiple times throughout three days where you were because you were late EVERY day. - On the 1st day, you said you'd be there at 10am and you showed up past 12pm. Then you decided to leave at 5pm to throw away the carpet. - On the 2nd day, we agreed on 12pm and I asked you at 1:14pm if everything was okay because you still hadn't shown up. We stayed until 7pm because you wanted to work longer. - On the 3rd day, I came in at 6:30am at your request. At 8:17am you still hadn't shown up and I asked you not to come in at all and cancelled our project. 3. It is so unprofessional to blame your incompetency on my age. It shouldn't matter the age of the person you're working with. We agreed on a price for the work you'd provide -- my age should not matter and if it did you shouldn't have agreed to work with me from the get go. If you thought that I was too inept to understand your contracting job, you should have said something. I don't think I misunderstood though, I think you just did a really horrible job. I'm honestly shocked at your response because you are blatantly lying. You're bothered at having to write your response? Well, so am I.Oct 3, 2017VerifiedMario R.'s reply
It is very clear your dishonest review of us/me is personal rather than from a business/service stand point. By stating what you did state regarding your age. I am sure anyone reading this would agree age and EXPERIENCE go hand in hand together. I am talking exerience, you are saying age. Also by the way you are attacking me, now your age is showing. Bottom line, I never even dealt with the homeowners, if I would have there would not be any misunderstandings - because you have blamed me for your incompetency. I suggest you get your instructions in writing and have the next company you hire read and sign the agreement like I first asked of you, to do of which I could never even find you to do.

I spoke with mario about a job that I needed done. He was kind and honest and I felt a person with compassion. But I had to forgo that project. But in the near future if I need any work done I will call mario. He is a kind and caring person.May 7, 2017Verified
We hired Mario for several jobs in our house which were: wall/ceiling separation, roof leaks and covered patio repair. He did an amazing and thorough job and would recommend him to anyone that needs work done in their home. He's also a great and personable guy who charges fairly for his services, which is probably why he's busy with jobs all time! Great work and thanks again Mario!Nov 12, 2016Verified
He seemed nice at first, but totally underbid the project and took 3 weeks to realize he really couldn't deliver a quality job that should have taken 3 - 4 days. After we paid him 1/2 for the job earlier on, it became evident that the work was either going to take much longer to finish and would be substandard.Nov 10, 2016VerifiedMario R.'s reply
Shelly, reading this is pretty funny because it is so ridiculous. If you are going to give a review why not state the truth, the entire truth like for example the fact that the bid was given low because you first presented the job to me for only minor things needed. But soon there after you daily added things you wanted done which to make a long story short turned into a complete floor remodel. You need to remember that if you would have been honest from the start or at least known definitely before hiring somebody, known and/or stated exactly what you really wanted instead of daily changing and adding on to the request. Adding and changing is always fine but you need to understand that the contractor has other clients scheduled, and scheduling works around what a person requests to be done. In other words, we schedule future clients depending on how long a job should take. Your initial request and contract and the time it would take to complete was taken into consideration when it came to scheduling our next client. To reiterate, requesting extra things is always fine, we want your business but we cannot let it hinder us from keeping our promise to our other clients on when we would commence their requests. It is true your initial request should have taken 4 days but we both know that was impossible when you were consistently adding and changing to the initial request and agreement without taking into consideration other clients. Still we kept up with your requests but soon became as if thee only client we were ever to have was only you. The other fact you forgot to mention was this floor was from when the home was first built in the 1950's, and then was carpeted with tons of staples and nails and stained from pet urine and lastly even pergo flooring was added. With all that, that wood floor was meant to be forgotten and really was so damaged that anyone else would have told you that you needed a whole new floor entirely. But we did not did we? No we were understanding to your money issues and having kids etc. we wanted to help and we did not mind besides the fact that when it comes to floor restoration, we are experts. And so we brought your floor beautifully back to life. Also keep in mind that on days when we were done for the day, we would come back the next day only to find more stains on the floor we had just sanded that we could not figure out until you told me you and your husband were pouring hydrogen peroxide to stains that were on the wood. This went on for a week and a half just making our job harder and adding more work to the work we had just performed. Those small stains were going to be sanded with extra focus at the end and you would have seen this if you would have let us do what we know how to do and for what we hired to do. You thought that because it was a tooth whitener that it would rid the stains but all it did was leave urine looking stains on the floor that after pouring the hydrogen peroxide you did not even contain the liquid from traveling to other parts of the floor. So I ask you know,....did you not hire us to do the job??? YES, so then why not leave it up to us and why would you do this and all the while seeing us back again the next day dumbfounded about the stains that were not there previously the day before. Lastly, the floor was so damaged and had so many nails that while sanding floor would just tear up or paper on our sanders, and after pulling so many staples and nails there was then a lot of patching. Nevertheless, the floor received a beautiful and entire restoration of which we were proud of. I am sorry you are upset that we could not keep taking changes and add on requests but we were on a schedule that was planned from your initial request. "Substandard" only because you only got to see it with no stain and gloss because your husband insisted he wanted to do that part we were not going to argue that it is his home, maybe you two should have discussed this. In conclusion we made sure it was all done thee very best it could be and for your husband to finish per his request. So please do not forget it was never underbid it was bid on what you first requested but you kept adding to it and maybe your husband did not keep you informed but the contract was changed constantly changing the total due because of those add-ons and we were paid for all that additional work. We think you feel this way because we did not stain or gloss your floor like you and I both thought we would but it was because your husband requested and insisted he wanted to do it. We do not think you were actually aware of this important fact. We are not upset with your review, we understand, we are happy just knowing we did an outstanding job besides your husband was very happy and appreciative. Take care and know you will enjoy your "new" floor. Sincerely, Mario Roberts

- How did you get started doing this type of work?Working on my homes was in the beginning just a great hobby, Doing everything and anything to them came naturally. I always felt that no one could do the job(s) better than I. I always enjoyed the compliments received from neighbors, family and friends especially when they found out that it was me that performed all the work. It wasn't long before I started receiving all sorts of requests for work to be performed and since it was what I loved to do, it just took off from there. I never needed to do much advertising at all, it was just word of mouth.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?Always look for the provider that truly shows a passion for what he or she does. Always seek the provider that is willing to take the time gto explain what the job entails and any possible way that money can be saved without compromising quality. And of course, always seek your provider through a fine service such as Thumbtack.
