Dr Lake was an amazing Officiant to for our wedding. He was extremely kind and professional leading up to the wedding. He was perfectly on time and prepared for the big day. The best part is when he was delivering his homily, everyone was laughing and engaged. He kept myself and my husband from breaking down in tears because of his well timed humor. He is honestly the best.

Will was a pleasure to work with for our wedding. We hired him to set up a photo station, to use as a photobooth (but not automatic, with him taking the photos). Our primary goal was really good lighting so we could capture all our guests beautifully, and he did a great job! We chose no prints to save paper, just a usb of the files, and we uploaded them to an album for our friends to download later. They could also email themselves the most recent picture from his station. Will was easy to deal with over email and brought a positive energy to our day.

Nona has a 5 star personality, 5 star customer service, 5 star skills and 5 stars won't do justice to the experience we have had with her. We had her at our small and intimate wedding ceremony and reception at a restaurant, and she did wonders!! We highly recommend her.

Vic has been great to work with! He is easy going and very responsive in communicating. His team arrived early and got all equipment rolling smoothly- extra props to him and his assistant because we hired them for an outdoor ceremony with no power source (needed battery powered equipment), immediately followed by a reception at a separate location. They did a wonderful job with setting up in two locations. It was something that could have been a very challenging set up but they got it done! The sound system worked well and the sound was appropriate for the event (windy beach). The cords and everything were tucked away neatly and the speakers had nice covers on them. We had to take out a star though because we were disappointed the music was not working properly for two critical moments: the bride's walk down the aisle (music didn't play until bride was halfway done with the walk) and the first dance (mixed up the father daughter song rather than the bride/groom first dance song even though we went over the songs on the day of the wedding before everything started). He did a wonderful job MC-ing all the other parts of the reception: from the cake cutting, to the garter belt and bouquet toss. He kept the dance floor going and his set up near the dance floor was looked very nice. He even sent us some great pictures afterwards. Overall he is great to work with and is a wonderful person for parties. We would recommend him for your next event.

I loved working with Terri, she is seriously the sweetest lady and she was so helpful when it came to figuring out incorporating us writing our own vows and including my daughter in our ceremony. She gave us a quick run through right before the ceremony and was very organized. I'm very happy that I chose her to officiate our wedding ceremony and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone that will go above and beyond to make sure your ceremony is a memorable one, 75% of our guests were in tears because of her words. Thanks again! 💜Carpio's

Jess shot our wedding ceremony and reception at the South Coast Botanic Gardens in Palos Verdes. She stayed until the very end and captured some really special moments that we will cherish forever. We asked that she focus on the candid shots and she did a wonderful job. We are so grateful and pleased with the job she did!

I cannot say enough good things about hiring palo to film my wedding. They are absolutely top notch!! I would highly recommend them to anyone considering filming your wedding. From the very beginning palo was so fantastic to work with. I work in television and was very particular and what I wanted for my video and song and they easily accommodated everything I wanted. The day of my wedding they were so sweet and easy to work with, I didn't even notice they were there most of the time. When our video arrived I was floored!! It was shot so beautifully and the editing was perfect, I couldn't have asked for more. And the fact that you get all the raw footage allows you to look back and watch moments from the day I didn't remember even happened. As someone who works in production myself I had very high expectations and palo exceeded them and more!!!

Jon Don is a flat-out awesome DJ and MC! Before the wedding he was great at communicating with us, quick to respond to our emails and very flexible to get on the phone. He took our Spotify playlists for the cocktail hour/dinner and dancings portion of the ceremony and mixed in his own song choices as well. So many of our guests said how amazing the music was; he picked all the right songs at the right time. He also was a great MC! Our schedule shifted a lot during the ceremony as we got behind with some speeches and other events, and he was super flexible and worked with our wedding coordinator and photographer on the flay to make it all happen and make it all so fun! We can't say enough about Jon Don and would highly recommend him for any event!

He is very knowledgeable in his work, takes pride, and makes sure your event goes smoothly even though you may have missed a small detail. He dj at our wedding and was opened to our scheduling due to last minute changes the day of the event. He is a great mc and knows how to speak to an audience. Honestly there was nothing I didn’t like about this deejay. I would definitely recommend and hire again in the near future.

Manny did an okay Job at our wedding. I gave have him constructive criticism and told him a would still write a good review, but he took offense to my suggestions and the specifics he failed to follow, so I’m going to be honest in my review instead. I requested that he not play hip hop and he did, that all the songs be clean, without cussing and some weren’t. He wasn’t very responsive to requests and the dance floor was often empty. Our reception ended early because everyone was bored and ended up leaving early. Manny means well, he just lacks some professional experience. I would hesitate to recommend him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
