We needed a special power of attorney but had no Idea how to prepare it or where to find it, Viridya the Notary was very helpful preparing the forms in advance, then she showed up on time and explained everything to us, very professional.

From the initial phone call and in-person consult, John had a very calm, nonjudgmental demeanor. I talked to a few other attorneys prior to deciding to work with John. Bankruptcy is a difficult, embarrassing, and sometimes confusing process. As a single practitioner and small business owner, John gives his clients the personalized attention that I think is needed for bankruptcy. He was readily available via phone, email, and even in-person meetings to explain the process and set expectations, answer any questions, and alleviate our concerns. He even helped with slightly unrelated financial/legal issues (tenant/landlord issues, rental security deposit questions, etc.) Other larger bankruptcy firms seemed to not care so much about the individuals they were serving and often advertised the bigger, well-known attorneys to reel clients in but actually had less experienced attorneys or even paralegals/interns do the majority of work on their cases. Some firms don't even have an attorney attend the bankruptcy hearing with you, which I would imagine to be nerve-wracking for the client. You want to make sure the paperwork is completed and filed correctly, you are well-prepared for your hearing, and that the process runs seamlessly, so you can have a quicker path to a fresh financial start. I would not have felt as confident about the outcome if I were to go through this process alone or have a junior level attorney or intern work on my case. John was great to work with, and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering making such a tough decision. It is a very impactful decision, so while there are bankruptcy attorneys available for a fraction of the cost, I think it is worth the larger investment to have a caring, accessible, and experienced attorney like John on your side to ensure a higher chance of having a positive outcome and seamless process to restarting your financial future. We began the process in December, attended our hearing in January, and received notification of our discharge in March. We are already working to rebuild our credit, which John also provided advice on how to best go about the post-bankruptcy rebuild. Thank you, John!

Working with Paul has been a phenomenal experience. I was nervous and uncertain how the Chapter 13 process would go, but Paul not only successfully handled my case, but he also explained everything to me and laid out the whole process (in a very friendly, caring, and thorough way). He knows the law inside and out, the likes and dislikes of the trustees who handle your case, and - unlike other attorneys - always quickly returned my calls and gave his undivided (and nonjudgmental) attention. Working with Paul on Chapter 13 was easier than getting my license renewed from the DMV and as seamless as ordering a package on Amazon.

All around great experience. Expensive lawyers will do everything for you and charge you crazy numbers. If you’re prepared to do the work, this is an excellent option instead of a divorce attorney. Lisa’s many years of experience will guide you through the pitfalls of processing your divorce. I ask a lot of questions and can be a demanding client. When Lisa didn’t have an answer, which was rare, she got the information to me expeditiously. I interviewed several people before choosing Lisa. Look no further for your divorce processing needs.

I retained Ms. Fazeli after doing a lot of research and communications with other Family Law Attorneys as am going through a complicated divorce. She provided me with a free consultation, and after speaking with her to discuss my case, it was clear that she is very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience. She completely understood my situation, and provided me with an excellent cost effective strategy. I am very happy with my choice in retaining her as my Attorney, and highly recommend her firm to anyone needing a really good Family Law Attorney.

Family Attorney Lori Smith has helped our family repeatedly. Our daughter needed assistance with child support problems and Ms. Smith clarified the problem and guided her to a satisfying decision. On another occasion she helped us with a family trust issue concerning an elderly relative. Then most recently she assisted us with a lease dispute with a large company undergoing management problems. I highly recommend Ms. Smith for any of your personal legal issues.

The Law Office of Heather Cullen was a great choice. Attorney Amanda Naples is very bright and supportive. I had two other attorneys before Attorney Naples who seemed to just create a mess of my case more than anything else. Amanda was very organized and all of my options were clearly given to me. The whole office was nice and helpful.

My best friend told me about this firm after she'd researched a bunch of lawyers online for me. She basically told me to call them because they were local and they had really good reviews. I am so glad that my friend did the research because it made finding an attorney a lot less stressful. Nadrich and Cohen did a really good job on my case.

The Law Office of Heather Cullen provided the best legal representation I could ask for in my divorce case. Heather Cullen, Jillian Duggan-Herd and Amanda Naples all provided legal help on my case and made me feel total protection (like a TV legal team). Jillian was available for me non-stop for the entire year. My divorce is now complete; but, I am keeping Jill and Heather as my attorneys so that I feel safe until my kids are 18 and I don’t have to worry about being alone if I ever have custody issues. Luckily, if I need any legal help I won’t have to travel far now that the Riverside firm has an office in Temecula also. Hands down best attorneys in Riverside County!

Mr. Deller was the first attorney to see on my list. After meeting with him, I knew he was the one I needed to help me with my case. He was honest and straight forward with his fees and he made me feel confident that he was the attorney for me. The staff made me feel welcome and they were all so friendly.

I endorse Mr. Pilato as an exemplary attorney and a true professional. I had the opportunity to work with him on a range of difficult cases, both civil and criminal, and to learn from his expertise. I regard him as thoughtful, experienced, and ethical. In fact, very few other lawyers can deliver such quality results. Having worked with hundreds of other lawyers, Louis is surely one of the best. For all of these reasons and more, you want Louis Pilato with you in court, confident in your selection of such a worthy advocate. Geoff A. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
