I have taken guitar lessons from Kim for many years. Not only is she an amazing guitarist who provided expert guidance but she was able to help me move from a basic beginner status to new levels in chord progression and improvisational technique. I highly recommend her lessons for an anyone with an interest in learning more about playing the guitar and music in general.

Stefano is a great teacher! I started taking drum lessons as an adult who'd always wanted to learn drums but had no experience. Stefano makes sure to work at your pace, finding the balance between pushing you to grow while ensuring you grasp everything and are actively improving and understanding. He also dives right into your favorite music making practicing fun and satisfying from the very start.

Prior to taking drum lessons with John, I had taken about 7 long gruesome years of piano lessons. My interest in music was at an all time low and I was looking for a new experience with drums. Luckily, for me, I was able to find John James, possibly the best person for the job. Right from the start, John was a positive and patient teacher. He came into every lesson with enthusiasm and encouragement and helped me to feel comfortable. His 19+ years of experience with drums and a major in percussion assured me that he knew what he was doing. John really makes an effort to make sure that all of his students know the absolute basics of drumming such as counting, reading, and technique, which will all greatly benefit you later on. His undying patience astounds me to this day and I greatly appreciate how he never yells at his students. I often have to ask for constructive criticism because he is always so positive and encouraging. However, just because he is patient does not mean that he will slow you down. He is always aware of his student's skill level and capabilities and works to constantly challenge you to a point. As a result, the rate of progression with him is pretty high. I have been taking lessons with John for about 6 months now. Although I was bad with rhythm at first (due to the piano), he helped me to progress at a very high pace. In about a month or two, I was already practicing on the drums and reading notes at a proficient level. As a college student, I naturally do not have too much time to invest in drumming but amazingly, with John's help, I am able to consistently advance further and further every week. If I hadn't met John, I would have given up drumming by now. With every lesson, John makes me feel more and more confident that someday I will become a BEAST at the drums.

Geo is a very good drummer with a great attitude!!! I took lessons with him for over two years and thoroughly enjoyed my time. He has a cool approach to the drum kit that makes you look comfortable and relaxed when playing. He is experienced and knows how to quickly help you where you lack. He is patient and nice! Highly recommended for both experienced players and beginners!

My son started formal drum lessons with Steve two and a half years ago. Steve set the bar on professionalism, flexibility, communication, and has the patience to teach music to younger kids. My son went from a kid banging on a toy drum, to a musician that could play drum set rhythms in an elementary school jazz band. We've had other instructors since Steve left the Los Alamitos area but none of them compared to his high level of attributes listed earlier.

I've been taking lessons from Steve for quite a few months now. From the beginning, Steve has put me at ease and made me feel comfortable. He is always precise and makes sure that I understand what we are doing before we move on. I also appreciate that he allows me to practise in his studio on equipment that he provides. In general I am thoroughly enjoying the experience and feel as if I have improved a lot. I thank Steve for being patient and a good teacher.

My son Prahalad had taken piano lessons with Cesar Canocelis before we moved to Northern California. Prahalad started out as a complete beginner and within a year, he was playing some beautiful pieces. Cesar is engaging, energetic and very good with kids. He has a good sense for what each child will enjoy and how each child learns. Prahalad always looked forward to his lessons and stayed interested in piano throughout. Cesar focussed on technique, skill and theory while cultivating a genuine love for the instrument in the child. Prahalad still loves to play the piano, thanks to Cesar and the wonderful foundation he gave him!

My son began taking drum lessons with Lindsay via skype at 6 years old. He will be 9 next month and is still loving his drum lessons. He has learned so much in such a short period of time. Not only is Lindsay clearly a skilled drummer but is also an apt teacher. She is patient while pushing my son to improve his skills. I know from personal experience that learning an instrument can be frustrating to the point that the student will want to give up. This is especially true for a kid. Lindsay understands this and has the ability to balance progress with patience. I highly recommend Lindsay as a drum teacher!

Henry Newmark is an INCREDIBLE drum set teacher and mentor. Henry attended the Berklee School of Music, Henry's approach is precise and professional. Henry is the REAL deal and his instruction is phenomenal. You or your child will absolutely be learning proper technique as well as music theory. Henry is a perfectionist in the best way possible. My son took lessons once or twice a week with Henry for 5 years straight. Not only did my son look forward to his lessons every week, but he went from being a beginning student to now being a freshman percussion major at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. Henry taught my son drum set, orchestral and snare drumming, and jazz drum set. There is NO WAY my son would be where he is today without Henry. Henry is also very kind and has a great sense of humor. There is no better drum teacher then Henry Newmark. If you want to learn how to play the drums, he is your guy without a doubt.

If you truly want to get the bang for your buck, having Conor as your drum teacher is ultimately the way to go. Unlike the drum teacher I had before, Conor's approach is individualized and catered to the needs of each student. With my first lesson, Conor was already teaching me both things that I wanted to learn and what would make me a better drummer. You will leave each lesson asking yourself why you didn't start lessons with Conor earlier -- I know I did! Each lesson is packed with useful information and you truly leave each lesson knowing that you have improved as a drummer.

Jeffery is the best. I always had so much fun during my lessons with him and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn the drums. He’ll tailor the lesson and his teaching method for whatever works best for the student. He’s knowledgeable, patient, and one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. 5 stars all the way.

I have been studying Afrocuban percussion with Caitlin once a week for 7 years now. She is a very talented multi-instrumentalist. She has been very committed to my growth and as a result of her patience and persistence has gotten me to understand and learn far more than I ever expected. She has developed a very personal style of teaching that was perfect for my growth, I am very grateful to have found Caitlin and recommend her to student of all levels.

I had a class with Chris and it was totally inspiring mind opening. We played on his studio for more than an hour and he showed me very interesting concepts about rudiments and how to apply in music. You can learn the base rudiments in a book, but Chris really nows how to use in the drums in a musical and inspiring way. Besides that, he showed me concepts about timing that I didn't had contact with other teachers. He's very creative on drums and has a good method for teaching it.

        About

My teaching career began in high school when I would teach other high school and middle school students drum lessons. Upon graduating, I continued my music studies at two different institutions. I have a B.A. in jazz studies from Florida State University and an M.F.A. in jazz studies from the California Institute of the Arts. Total, I have over seven years of experience as a private instructor. I am able to teach drum set, classical and rudimental snare drum and Latin percussion lessons. I have had experience in teaching students with ages ranging from 5-56. In addition to teaching percussion, I can teach music theory, jazz keyboard theory, composition and beginning piano and guitar students. Some of my former students have gone on to study music performance at colleges, such as Florida State University, The University of Miami, Louisiana State University and The University of Alabama.
