Very friendly, nice, and was able to do all that I asked him to do in the time frame! He had to disassemble a very big heavy cabinet for us and it seemed to take less than 20 minutes. I brought a ladder from home but he brought his own and plenty of tools to make sure he had all he needed. Overall nice experience!

Steven is the ultimate professional! Arrived promptly (you can even track his travel to home/business). Very professional, courteous and efficient with all the necessary tools (and then some) to install my flat screen TV. Move the furniture and glassware to hook up the cable box. Move everything back and cleaned up thoroughly after the project was completed. I was so impressed with him and his knowledge, that we discussed my future home projects (bathroom remodel, cabinets installation, closet organizers and ceiling fan/light installation). He took the time to explain the scope of work, potential challenges and cost estimates of each project. And for the record, the prices he quoted was VERY reasonably priced. He and the White Residential Services will definitely be my future "GO-TO" Pro when I need home improvements. He definitely earned my business and I know he will do the same for you. I give him my highest recommendations!! Thank You, Steven and ThumbTack for an easy transaction!

Not knowing what thumbtack was exactly, I put out a request for cabinet assembly/installation. Within a day I decided to use a former contractor for that work but Jose had responded quickly for the job. I noticed on his list of specialties that he also specialized in concrete so I asked him if he would bid on a patio project I had in mind. Not only was his bid 30% lower than two other licensed contractors, but he was willing to do extra work for just cost of materials. His level of communication was always good and timely, he always showed up at the time he promised, he accomplished his daily commitments and goals on time, his helpers were tenacious and diligent, he cleaned up the yard every day, he had a team of workers who each knew their required tasks at hand, everyone worked long hours until their duties were completed, and needless to say, the patio slab came out perfect as I can tell. I am a retired handyman and I have never seen a better performance at a job site. After the job was completed, Jose came back the next day to power wash the concrete and because I couldn't be available for the next couple of days, Jose waited patiently and trusted me to pay him his balance owed him when we could finally get together. Jose has obviously impressed me with his professional demeanor, sincerity in his desire to satisfy his customers, and conscientious strive for perfection. I found his work ethic second to none. I will use his service again in the future. I am a difficult person to please and many contractors have found me to be too demanding but with Jose he was always at least one step ahead of me. Jose knows concrete. Signed, Dan Ross

I waited a long time before finally deciding to refinish a few heirloom pieces that have been in my family for years. I started out by giving Scott 1 piece because I didn't know what to expect. Scott was extremely knowledgeable, professional and made me feel at ease. I was so happy with my table that I ended up having Scott and his associate Keith refinish 3 other heirloom pieces (coffee table; bakers cabinet and a buffet). The pieces look like new and thanks to his great work they will continue to be in our family for years to come. I highly recommend him.

We moved into a bank owned home, kitchen was overall nice at first glance, but then realized there was grime on cabinet doors that had been gone over with wood finish. When we cleaned, the bare wood was left around all the door handles. Cabinets were in decent enough to shape so we did not want to replace. Sam was able to refinish them and they look amazing compared to their prior condition. Less than half the cost of new cabinets!

Had Don come over to fix a cabinet roller after trying repeatedly and failing miserably. On time, professional and most importantly got approved by our very large and protective dog. Looking forward to working with him again! Definitely recommend working with him.

John gave my kitchen a real "face lift" including repairing and re-staining my doors and drawers, replacing hinges, fixing drawer guides and other cabinet re-facing. He was very professional, worked extremely hard and stayed in constant communication regarding his scheduled visits. I am extremely pleased with the whole job and can only say that John "delivered" better than promised. He is aptly named the Wizard of Wood and I would highly recommend him.

Brandon met me at Lowes at 8:30am to pick up supplies. We got to my house around 09:15. He fixed a broken kitchen cabinet. He painted my bathroom including the trim around the window. He hung a Venetian blind in my 2nd bdrm. He replaced my old toilet with a new and improved version. All four of these tasks were part of the estimate. Brandon also unclogged my bathroom sink-not part of the estimate- he just did it. Brandon was finished around 3:45pm. He knew all the tricks that help a contractor save time, but still get the job done correctly. I am extremely happy with the results and definitely will be using Brandon for future jobs. Thanks Brandon! Mark Gonzales

I hired Kent to refinish my kitchen cabinets that were originally built in 1969 and were in overall good structural condition but completely lacked aesthetics on the outside. Since the cabinets were so old, they of course did not have hidden or soft close hinges which I was really hoping to be able to achieve with the kitchen remodel. I had other contractors come in and tell me that I would have to live with the outdated cheap hinges as they would not be able to configure new doors and drawers with hidden hinges and that's where the amazing Kent Merrill comes in. Not only did Kent do an amazing job at refinishing the exterior of the cabinet boxes, the new doors and drawers faces, but he was able to install new soft close glides for the drawers and wait for it........hidden soft close hinges. A miracle in its self, but not for Kent, he is truly a master of kitchen cabinet makeovers. I cannot speak highly enough of his skill set and professionalism. If I ever have another kitchen where the cabinets need to be redone, I will not think twice about going with anyone but Kent.

He did a great job installing our cabinet. I couldn't be more pleased with the product. I now have extra room for my linens. It was a fast installation and quick clean up which I do appreciate. We hired Nick Sinyuk as our contractor for a complete kitchen remodel. We chose Nick based on his high Thumbtack ratings, as well as both his (low) estimates for cost and time completion of 2 weeks. While the job took him 4 weeks rather than 2, he worked very hard to build a beautiful kitchen that has received glowing reviews all-around. He cut no corners, used quality materials, and sought our input on every decision and detail. He rebuilt our kitchen from scratch -- this included: installation of a new wood floor that is immaculate, built a dreamy custom island, refinished our ceiling, and built an entire kitchen cabinet and counter area that maximized our space and storage. Our kitchen is a dream -- it is truly a chef's designer kitchen. We would hire Nick again based on his skilled craftsmanship, pricing, and timely work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
