This educator is top notch!! Extremely professional, very intelligent] going, comfortable to be around and patient. My son lost confidence due to the actions of his current Math Teacher. It was heartbreaking to see, since he loves Math so much! When we decided to invest in the tutelage of Jenny,we could see that his love for math was returning, this happened within just one month!!! We have renewed out contract with her and looking foward to a continued partnership with her! Bridges Family

We’ve really enjoyed having Lauri work with our daughter in order to prep her for 3rd grade. She’s falling behind in common core math and Lauri is helping prep her to be where she needs to be. Her patience, professionalism and 30 years of knowledge should be able to obtain the results that we hope to see and are unable to provide on our own!

Baeleigh (our daughter to whom James is tutoring) says, "I love that instead of James just telling me how to do something, he uses visuals and is very interactive in explaining something to me. There is nothing that he can do better, I am happy that he is my tutor." As parents, we like that he is so good at finding how Baeleigh learns best so that he can teach her in a way she understands. He is patient and has been good at keeping in touch with her teachers and also with us.

About

I am a college Math/Music major from Haverford College and I tutor from elementary to high school. Tutoring Subjects: • All basic Math, pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, pre-Calculus and Calculus. For students who want to get ahead, I can help them learn concepts beyond what the classes teach. • Reading, grammar and writing fundamentals. • Biology, Chemistry and any history class from Greek history to AP US History. Music Lessons: • Beginning through advanced instruction in: ~Trumpet ~ Clarinet ~ French Horn • Music theory basics and ear training. • As a multi-instrumentalist, I can help your child find the instrument about which they are most passionate. I've had nearly a decade of experience playing clarinet, french horn and trumpet (as well as most other brass and woodwind instruments) in jazz bands and orchestras. I've coached students and been a private teacher for the past five years. I believe strongly in establishing a strong understanding in music theory but incorporate aspects that keep the student interested in their instrument. I additionally give lessons in film production, photo editing and computer/software use.

About

I have been teaching swimming since 2011 to young children and absolutely loved it. I was able to connect to my students and together, we achieved the goals they made for themselves. Now, I've advanced to teaching academic studies to children who struggle in their subjects. It is much easier for the student to ease the confusion early on rather than struggling to get through a class, and I am here to help.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. How much does home tutoring cost?

Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:
