Arman did a great job, it took him two trips to fix my stove, one for detect the problem and the other to place the part, (non in stock) he took his time to find where the gas leak was coming from, he even helped me to clean my stove. The price very reasonable and he was flexible to my schedule, also he showed up "on time". I really recommend Arman , he is a pleasant person and very honest, I definitely will call him again for any future problems with my appliances. Thank you Arman!

Had an issue with the wall stove - lights blew out when changing and oven shut off completely. GE said there was no one authorized in the area -- but Allen & Sons are certified GE repairmen which I luckily found on my own (GE told me to look in the phone book - last GE product I ever buy). . Ultra fast response - SAME DAY appointment, called at 1pm, they had a 4:30 and then a 3pm opened up. So almost same hour service. Ben our tech was great, incredibly knowledgable, polite and worked quickly but carefully. The whole job was $80! be a little more as one part had to be ordered, but even that was only $46 + install when it arrives. I can't recommend this company more. Having dealt other companies they are orders of magnitude better. If you live in Malibu, Palisades, etc - and into the valley (canoga park+) these are the people to call. Top notch across the board. A++

Our experience with Hector was amazing. He installed cabinets, lighting, and electrical work in our garage (basically remodeled the garage). He is extremely hard-working and treated the job as if he was doing it for his own house: no shortcuts. His prices are very reasonable and he is a man of his word! You cannot go wrong with Hector! Excellent work and we look forward to working with him on ALL upcoming projects. We have found a handyman for life!

James installed some decorative tile on the wall for a fireplace surround and did a fantastic job. The finished product looks great. Not only is a real craftsman that is good at what he does, but he is also a genuinely nice guy that I trust. He gave fair pricing and cared more about getting the job done right than the money. I'd highly recommend James and will be hiring him again for future tiling jobs.

I've already referred him to friends!

Mark's office is located on Main Street in Yorba Linda, very close to our residence. We had interviewed a number of contractors to redo our kitchen, living room and down stairs powder room. We thought we'd give him a try. He came out with his decorator, Terry Alvarado, and we were very impressed. They got the concept immediately. Exactly what we were looking for...and then some. Mark took us to a number of his completed projects and we were pleased with what we saw and heard. Mark makes it a point to make "Friends" out of his clients. Within a very short period of time we had accepted Mark's proposal. It was very professional. One thing that really impressed me was that he set up a very conservative payment schedule. This put my mind at ease that he wasn't a "Get the money and run" contractor. As in most remodel projects we were soon adding to the scope of the work. Again, very professional revisions were made to the original contract. When structural work was required for a feature we wanted in our kitchen, Mark was insistent on bringing in an engineer to ensure everything would be first class and to code. In fact, if there's an earth quake in Yorba Linda I want to be in our kitchen at the time! It did lengthen the time to complete the job but we have a very high quality outcome. Mark's contractors- Dennis, Dan, Jai and Mike were a pleasure to work with and very trustworthy. The security of our home (We both work) was always important to them. The frosting on the cake is the quality of custom cabinets Mark's own shop turns out. The tolerances are precise and the white lacquer finish is tremendous. Mark worked until we had just the perfect door fronts on our cabinets. The design work was also terriffic. We continue to work with Terry even now. Granite fabrication (Also done in mark's shop) is great. One of the extras we had Mark do is a custom fireplace mantel. Again, his cabinet team really came through. Also, all moldings were replaced in the first level and the miters are precise. Thanks to Mark, Terry and the entire Turnkey Remodel team for a great job.

Awesome customer service! My gas fireplace wasn't working. I was referred toSan Fernando Valley Heating and Air Conditioning by Southwest Gas. They were friendly, and could have been out the same day, had I not had an appointment. I am in Green Valley...Ruben called at 7:15am the next morning and was here by 8am. All was fixed by 9 and he left me coupons! Thank you!!

We thought we had a gas leak from our range. The gas company came out and determined, no leak, but something could be wrong with the burners. Isco came out (ON TIME) and found nothing wrong with the burners, stove or oven. "The smell was most likely just from the metal heating up" and becasue he found nothing wrong...NO CHARGE He was very thorough and honest. Seldom you don't find people like Isco. I would high recommend OC Masters...

Me and my husband had recently bought a foreclosed home; I must say that the tiles were just utterly gross in this property! I cannot paint a picture for how disgusting they looked. I had found these guys here while browsing reviews in desperate search for someone to come out and get these suckers clean. The technician, I believe to be the supervisor had came on out and did such a great job in the kitchen, our entryway where there is heavy traffic, our fireplace tile, both steaming and sealing. I have to say that not only did the kitchen tile look lightyears better; it was downright just silky to the touch once he had performed his tile cleaning magic. The price was also right on par with what I was expecting to pay and best of all these guys were done in about 2 hours; it was a lot of work being done! Definitely 2 thumbs up!

I had Rick estimate a number of projects around my house and his estimate was fair for the projects. Just yesterday I had him remove a wood burning fireplace from my living room and patch the ceiling where it connected to ventilate. He did a great job with the least amount of impact on my life. He was extremely communicative before, during and upon completion. I will definitely hire him again and refer him to friends.

BBG did an incredible job for us twice. One on a home we were looking to flip, I hired Christopher to do a kitchen and bathroom remodel, he even carried over some work into the great room and fireplace. He has great work, that of a master craftsman. Huge attention to detail and even brought some plumbing and electrical issues that needed attention and we fixed immediately. From there we brought him over to our property and did the most amazing master bath remodel and master suite redesign. I highly recommend BBG construction, call them up, speak to Christopher Hanna, and I'm certain you will find that he's not only priced right but his attention to detail and your finished product will go way beyond what you hoped for! I will hired BBG again when I acquire my next rental unit.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
      • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
      • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How does a chimney get cleaned?

A professional chimney sweep can clean your fireplace and chimney to help prevent chimney fires and keep your fireplace running in peak condition. Regular chimney cleanings are critical for removing the highly flammable creosote that can build up inside the walls of your chimney over time and cause chimney fires. When hiring a cleaning company, ask the chimney sweep if their cleaning fee includes removing soot, creosote and blockages from the chimney flue and liner, cleaning the smoke chamber and shelf, and cleaning the firebox and the damper to ensure that you’re getting a comprehensive cleaning. Expect the chimney sweep to cover the flooring around the fireplace and properly seal off your fireplace opening to catch any soot that comes out during the cleaning.

Look for a chimney sweep who has been certified by a nationally recognized organization such as the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), Fireplace Investigation Research and Education (FIRE), or the National Fireplace Institute (NFI). This will help ensure that your chimney work will be completed in a professional manner and your home will be safe from a chimney fire.

Do I need to clean my chimney?

A fireplace makes a home cozy in winter, but it also requires cleaning to keep your family safe. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 28 percent of home heating fires are caused by a failure to clean solid-fueled heating equipment — primarily chimneys. On top of that scary fact, nearly 20 percent of all fire deaths are caused by home heating equipment. At a minimum, the NFPA urges homeowners to have chimneys and fireplaces inspected once a year to ensure there are no obstructions blocking the flow of air or any buildup of dangerous and highly flammable creosote. A certified chimney sweep will know what warning signs to look for and have the proper tools. Besides personal safety, saving money is a great motivation for having a chimney sweep regularly clean your chimney. If your chimney liner is not kept clean and in good working order, replacing it can cost thousands of dollars. A yearly cleaning is the baseline for a safe chimney. If your chimney is your main heating source, ask your chimney sweep whether you should have it cleaned more often. If your chimney is not venting properly and smoke is coming into your house, if you notice that the wood you burn is not burning efficiently (turning completely to ash), or if you have other concerns, call for a chimney cleaning and inspection right away.

How much does it cost to have the chimney swept?

The national average chimney sweep cost is $100 to $130. The National Fire Protection Association recommends having your chimney inspected at least once a year, but daily use and other factors might mean you need more regular service. Here are several reasons your chimney sweep cost may be higher than the national average:

      • Overly dirty chimney: If you haven’t cleaned your chimney in many years, or if you’ve just bought an older home and don’t know how long it has been since the chimney was cleaned, excessive grime could increase the cost of the job.
      • Roof height or chimney height: The chimney sweep may also charge an extra fee if your roof is too high for a ladder to reach or is too steep to safely climb on without a harness.
      • Frequency of use: If your fireplace is your primary heating source, the buildup of soot might be far greater than if you just use your fireplace a few times a winter when company comes over. This may impact cost.
      • Excessive debris: Leaves, twigs, and other debris that’s collected in your chimney is a fire hazard and should be cleaned immediately. An excess of junk may result in higher chimney sweep costs.
      • Live or dead animals: Prepare to pay extra if live or dead animals are in the chimney. Rodents, birds and bats can all set up camp in your chimney. A chimney cap can help prevent them from getting in, but once you hear something scurrying around, or smell the unmistakable scent of dead critter, call a chimney sweep immediately.
      • Geographic location: Chimney sweep costs may be higher in your city due to factors such as a higher cost of living or higher cost do business (insurance, overhead, employee wages, etc.).
      • Chimney repair: Any repairs that are needed internally or externally to your fireplace will increase costs. A thorough cleaning and inspection will reveal whether repairs to masonry, tuck-pointing, the back wall, bricks, the fireplace floor or the crown are needed.
      • Chimney cap installation: A chimney cap prevents debris from collecting in your chimney as well as preventing animals such as birds, mice, or raccoons from taking up residence inside. The cost of the chimney cap plus the labor for installation can increase fees.

      How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
