Brian is very good with follow up to any questions I had. He showed up on time with his helper and completed the job efficiently and in a professional manner. The price is reasonable for the excellent results of the window cleaning service that was completed. I will hire them again for any window cleaning services I need in the future.

Concrete tile roof with a couple tiles completely gone and a dozen cracked. Responded within an hour to my call for help. Made an appointment to estimate job and showed up on time. Walked the roof thoroughly listing all damages in about 30-40 minutes, and gave me a very reasonable price quote I feel. Didn't try to up sell me. Got all the needed material together and knocked the job out in less than four hours. I've worked in construction and building and facilities maintenance for over forty years, and I can tell you these guys are expert, honest, open and straight forward. I highly recommend Alvarado Roofing Service for any roofing work you may need. Great price, great service, expert high quality results.

I selected Coastal Softwash because their quote was clear/ transparent about what I was getting and it was very reasonable compared to the other offers. Steve showed up on time (within the window), he was courteous and helpful. He also gave us good and honest recommendations about our house (he wasn't trying to upsell me; his advice was very practical). Overall, I had a great experience and plan to use Coastal Softwash again for gutter cleaning and other services as we need it.

We hired Excel Construction (Eyal) to completely remodeling our kitchen and to design and build a large wet bar. The remodeling job that they did included the demolition of the existing spaces, the removal of several existing walls, rewiring of some electrical outlets and switches, re-plumbing the new spaces, remove and install new flooring, new upper and lower cabinets, install new marble countertops, installing new lighting fixtures, fresh interior paint, some drywall repairs and adding a new large island at the kitchen. Eyal and his working crew did a stunning remodeling job. Eyal create for us a complete design of the work based on what we wanted and needed, guided us through some space limitations of the house and presented to us some different ideas that met our needs. The remodeling job was delivered on time, within budget and with high quality. Eyal was at the house every day and made sure that the remodeling progress is on track. He was there for each and every step of the work, which was extremely important to us. We highly recommend them for anyone who is searching for high quality remodeling or construction work.

I received a quote from alpha roofing within 24 hours of my request. They were upfront in assessing the situation. Several tiles were cracked, among them due to improper installation of solar panels which happened over a decade ago. The day after the initial assessment, Alpha Roofing did the job. They replaced the cracked tiles and patched the broken exhaust pipes. They took before and after pictures of the roof; they give a one year warranty. They're easy to deal with and are very professional.

Surepro did a fantastic job replacing my windows and repairing the stucco/repainting my home. There teams worked so fast (the windows were replaced in a day!). Everyone took pride in their work and even did a few extra things when asked. They always arrived on time, worked throughout the day and kept the jobsite clean. No corners were cut, no time was wasted. If you're thinking of repainting or putting in new windows, Surepro needs to be on the top of your list!!

I had a GREAT experience with Daniel from World Class Construction! I did not know him before, but he is now my "go to " guy. I had a smaller but very difficult job with some drainage issues and he came up with good suggestions on a repair and his cost and service were great. Also had some additional drywall work done and he was also very fair and competitive. Daniel was also very professional in every aspect, from the contract to finshing the work.

Scope - replace hallway floors (due to slight flooding/leak); gut reno one of the bathrooms; customize hallway closet(s). Pros: - Contractor was prompt to respond and quick to commence the job - Joe and his team are very professional - Quality of work is good - It is apparent that State Wide has a Subject Matter Expert for every aspect of the reno (different folks for plumbing, carpentry, tiles, flooring). Most likely 3rd parties but pros nonetheless. - flexible payment structure (also accepts CCs) Cons: - Execution was very slow; perhaps Joe's team was focused on bigger projects (it was mentioned on a few occasions) and it was apparent that our reno was not prioritized. - there were items that should have been spec'd out and ordered as to avoid delays (e.g. floor should have been matched on day1, subway tiles etc..). Numerous days were wasted as the team was waiting on the materials - my biggest frustration with the reno was the lack of empathy and accountability. Excuses/justifications were presented instead of just owning up to the significant delay (work was supposed to be executed in 10-14 days max; it took 30 days). It would have been completely fine if the delay was communicated properly instead of us hounding the team. Overall, we are happy with the renovation.

This letter will serve as a highly recommendation for the service that La Roca Builder did for us, on our new home construction. They have a great team that took care of all the guess work of home construction. They made sure we we’re always informed on how the city works with submitting plans and time frame of completion. We interviewed many contractors, but most of them couldn’t take care of the entire project and that’s why we hired them. Our home looks beautiful and we owe it all to Christian and his team from LA Rocca Builders not to mentioned J Balian Construction and Grandeur Construction, 3 teams, each team took care of different aspects of the projects all under one Roof; they all work together amazing! we love that they took care of it all, that made our new home build possible. 5 stars all the way Eddie Steeples Pacific Palisades P.S they wanted me to include that I was the actor that was on the show “My Name is Earl” aka “Crabman” And I gladly said yes, lol. Thanks Christian!

I was ready for some remodeling in my home. My kitchen needed an update and so did a few of the bathrooms. Searching google I found GIM and saw that they did energy efficient remodeling and upgrades. I contacted GIM and set an appointment for a consultant to come by to show me some options. The consultant showed us many samples of flooring, tile, roofing, painting, and multiple other products they offered. They even had their own architect to take care of the drawings for me and also had a 3d design for the kitchen. All the work was done properly and my home was left clean everyday. Appreciate all the hard work.

New roof in 3 days with city inspection

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why do I need to clean my roof?

Over time, algae, moss, lichen, dirt and even salt (if you’re near the ocean) can build up on your roof. These buildups can affect the look and function of your roof unless removed. The buildup of organic materials such as moss on a shingle roof can prevent water from sloughing off as it normally would. Trapped water can rot the roof or cause early deterioration of your shingles. Even if you don’t have a shingle roof, moss and lichen absorb water, and that wet material adds weight and stress to your roof — as well as providing a home for insects and other pests, and collecting dirt. For reflective, cool roofs that redirect heat away from the home, algae and moss growths can hamper their ability to deflect the sun, which can affect utility bills. Visually, moss, dirt and algae growths on a roof can have a negative effect on perceived home value and curb appeal. For example, black algae streaks on your roof may cause a potential homebuyer to assume that the roof might need repair or replacement, when it only needs to be cleaned.

Can a roof be cleaned?

Yes roofs can be cleaned, and yes, it’s a real thing. Roof cleaning may actually be a wise investment to prolong the life of your roof. Overgrowth of moss, grime, lichen or algae can all shorten the life of your roof. If you have black streaks growing on your roof, they are likely caused by gloeocapsa magma algae spores that have landed on your roof and taken up residence. Once the algae has grown into streaks, the organism has usually been growing for several months and it’s high time to have it removed. If you live in a rainy part of the country, such as the Pacific Northwest, there’s a good chance you’ll find moss growing on your roof at some point. The northern part of your roof, as well as any parts that remain shaded all day, will provide a wet, cool haven for moss to flourish. Unfortunately this water-absorbing moss can damage your shingle roof, leading to rot if not removed. Beyond roof health and function, a clean roof can boost your curb appeal and potentially boost your home’s resale value. The national average for roof cleaning costs ranges between $270 and $350, although prices can be higher depending on how large your roof is, how steep your roof is, and what type of cleaning is necessary. Typically pros use either a pressure wash or chemical wash (made with a concentrated bleach solution) to remove algae, lichen, moss and dirt.

What chemicals are used to clean roofs?

Roof cleaning is done to remove moss, lichen, algae, and buildup of other grime and dirt. There are several methods for roof cleaning, which can include a chemical soft wash, pressure washing, low-pressure washing and hand washing. When a chemical soft wash is used, a bleach mixture is sprayed onto the roof. The bleach-based solution is absorbed by the algae or moss, which dies from exposure to the chemical. The roof is then sprayed with a low-pressure rinse of water, which loosens the now-dead material, allowing it to slide off the roof.

For homeowners, the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends a mixture of 50 percent laundry-strength liquid chlorine bleach and 50 percent water. Professional roof cleaning companies will use an industrial mixture that is still safe but may be more effective in eliminating algae and moss growths. Asphalt shingle roofs are the most common type of roof, but each roofing material will have its own cleaning needs, so it’s best to consult with your roofing pro before diving in. Don’t do it yourself unless you can safely navigate your roof, the chemicals and a sprayer system. When in doubt, leave it to the pros.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.
