FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $35 for a thirty minute lesson or for an hour. (I'm not a stickler for time, however. I believe that is more important to learn than it is to watch the clock and there is NEVER an additional charge for going over time.) I charge a one time $30 materials fee, which is used to provide sheet music, books, paper, and whatever else you may need. As I mentioned earlier, the charge also covers unlimited phone/skype support, so if you are having trouble with your practice, you simply contact me and a mini lesson is provided by phone or Skype to get you over an hurdles hat migh tbe impeding your progress.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I usually meet with potential clients for an assessment to see whether or not I am what the client needs. I use a three pronged approach to teaching, focusing on theory, technique, and rhythm. I use songs in place of more traditional exercises because I feel that many of the same principles can be taught through a piece of music as through drills and that this method provides more of a sense of accomplishment, as you do not have to wait extended periods to dive into actually making music that you can play for pleasure.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I worked as a session musician for many years, playing piano and bass. In addition to majoring in music, I studied at the USC Conservatory back in the 70s and 80s. I have taught on and off over twenty years, taking extended breaks to raise my children.
