As an engineer, I am able to easily arrive at a final product that both my client and I are happy with...Because audio-post production for TV is my studio background, I am accustomed to very short deadlines and am able to turn around top level work quickly. I love audio and music and doing a good job. I am a perfectionist and enjoy the process of recording, mixing and mastering and arriving at a final product that everybody is happy with. I also enjoy helping artists achieve their goals by utilizing my skills, expertise and ears. I enjoy knowing that millions of people have seen or heard work that I've had a hand in creating...seeing or hearing something I've worked on on TV, in a movie theater or on the radio makes me proud and grateful.

As long as i've known Catharine, she has always had a friendly, cosy studio, with a nice home-atmosphere for recording. And she has remixed tracks for me, engineered, recorded and mixed my backing vocals for my EP, Wonderlust. I haven't recorded with her as a producer, on any sort of "electronic" project, or anything involving full band recording. But I would highly recommend her as a recording or mixing engineer for song demos, band albums, professional / commercial tracks, instrumental tracks (check out her instrumental library!), and songs on the acoustic/organic side of the spectrum, deserving a warmer, more "analogue" sound. Catharine is also a songwriter, singer and multi instrumentalist which can come in very handy!

I have worked with Catharine Wood at Planetwood Productions for many years - starting in 2002 at her original location in Carmel, California. Since her relocation to Los Angeles in 2003, I have worked with her in countless writing, recording, mixing and mastering sessions - in a myriad of genres - at both her Los Angeles studio as well as her mountain studio in Colorado. She is a consummate professional with an amazing ear as both a studied engineer and a musician. At last count, in addition to formal vocal training, she plays guitar, piano and bass as her primary instruments - and the studio's impressive instrument collection seems to have grown every time I work with her! If I could give her more than 5 "stars" I would -- she is a patient and effective producer in session and is like a dog with a bone when it comes to getting the sound exactly right. I have never worked with another producer with her level of attention to detail and commitment to achieving the desired end result - both sonically and creatively. The Los Angeles studio is spacious and professional with a large, comfortable control room - which includes an acoustic piano, client couch and great, relaxed vibe for playback. The separate, well-treated, isolation room has quality full drums, amps and vocal mics. The conference room, full kitchen with free wifi and outdoor patio "hangout" area really make for a comfortable writing and recording experience. The studio's located in a quiet, picturesque neighborhood - frequently filmed for commercials, tv and film. I was in for two full days this week and look forward to working with Catharine for several days when I return to L.A. next month.

So much fun to record at this studio! It's a nice, relaxed atmosphere and Catharine is a patient and talented engineer and producer. I highly recommend it!

I have had the pleasure of recording with Catharine at her studio in Eagle Rock on at least four different occasions and have always been very happy with the outcome. Her recording facilities are very professional and also comfortable and are a great environment to record in. I've also done some song-writing with Catharine which she is strong in, which makes her a great person to have on the creative/production side of the music as well as her super skills in engineering/mix/mastering. I highly recommend Catharine Wood and Planetwood Productions. : )

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We have a studio day rate as well as flat rates and per hour rates for various jobs. Because the studio offers songwriting consulting services, composition, producing, recording, mixing and mastering -- depending on which services a client is looking to have done, each quote is customized for their specific project. Planetwood Productions rates are Artist Friendly and we will work with your budget.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Quote. Answer all questions before start (including studio and payment terms). Book. Complete.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from the LA Recording School (Full Sail, Hollywood location) #1 in my class in 2005 with a focus on post-production and music production. I am a current voting member of the GRAMMYs in the Producers and Engineers wing. I have two publishing companies; Planetwood Productions (ASCAP) and Planetwood Motifs (BMI). With the state of flux that the music and entertainment industry are constantly in - it is very helpful to continue to be involved with Los Angeles-based organizations whose modus operandi is to keep their members informed. I am also the former Director for Southern California for the West Coast Songwriters, a current voting member of the Los Angeles Recording School Advisory Committee, a Voting Member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame...former Board Member of the California Copyright Conference (CCC)…My volunteer work for WCS, LARS and CCC has also helped to keep me 'up' on the latest -- as well as my own projects and involvement in the industry as a professional beyond my involvement with the Recording Academy and SONA.
