My son (now12) started playing the flute a year and a half ago. I gave him the option of choosing a teacher and paid for two first lessons. The first was at a local music school and the other was with Fay. After trying both, he chose Fay. She has been the most enthusiastic and wonderful teacher! He did already know how to read music, but his progress has been stunning. Within 9 months he was ready for a more advanced instrument. He looks forward to his time with her, he is very comfortable working with her and she has been incredibly accommodating with our schedule.Jan 21, 2015
Fay Roberts is an outstanding woodwind teacher - flute, sax, clarinet and master player. Flute is the focus, but anyone from beginner to professional can benefit from her instruction on any of these instruments. Beyond the individual instruments, Fay weaves musicianship and theory into lessons seamlessly such that one is always remembering while practicing, rehearsing, playing a gig or recording, and aspect of technique or general musicianship that came from a lesson with Fay. In addition, philosophy of music, and the philosophy of pursuing a challenging endeavor in general, is there, too - and it has assisted the student writing this review again and again in various circumstances. And Fay is one heck of a nice and warm person to boot - while not letting you get away with any BS, either! A VERY good combination.Mar 30, 2014
Fay is a fantastic teacher for any level of saxophonist. I am a pro-level saxophonist who needed to brush up on my theory and sightreading. Fay worked with me to find my starting place and gave me great lessons each week! I recommend her highly!Jul 13, 2016Verified
For my 60th birthday, I decided that I would finally learn to play the saxophone, forty years after I gave up the clarinet. I have been taking weekly saxophone lessons from Fay for about nine months now, and will continue to do so. Fay is a very patient and encouraging teacher. She has taught me some music theory that I had never learned before, as well as the mechanics of playing the tenor sax. In addition, she is a talented improviser, and her love of music is always apparent. Lessons consist of a nice blend of scales and exercises, along with some very satisfying pieces of jazz and classical music. I recommend Fay without hesitation or reservation.Apr 10, 2013Verified
My 11 year old daughter looks forward to each lesson and leaves feeling great about her skills and her self. Each session with Fay is enlivened with her bubbly enthusiasm, positive encouragement, and thorough musical knowledge.Jan 17, 2015
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Yes, I attend the National Flute Convention and read Saxophone websites & blogs to keep up on new things in the field, new music, new equipment etc.
- How did you get started doing this type of work? There was nothing that I loved as much as music. I didn't want music to be a hobby, I wanted it to be my life
- What types of customers have you worked with?I am a music teacher. My job is to break the music down into small enough parts that it becomes easy and fun to learn. I always keep my students motivated by helping them pick music they really want to play
