I had a big event coming up, my close friend's wedding to be exact. I am not a shopper by any means and in fact, shopping gives me anxiety. I was skeptical to first use a Personal Shopping service, but upon reading Candace's profile, I felt we were a fit. She first met with me and assessed what my style, budget, and the comfort level I was looking for in the outfit. From there, she gave me a session on what I should be looking for in a dress that fits my body type best. Then off to shopping we went! She is incredibly fast and knows exactly what she is looking for, giving me a plethora of dresses to try on with different cuts that I would have never picked out for myself. I ended up buying 3 dresses that day! Long story short- she is a great listener, knows what she is doing, and will get the job done efficiently. She is invested in you knowing how to shop for your body/personality above all. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

After a few times with Trunk Club I was determined to find a service for shopping that really understood what I wanted without having to spend so much time sending most of it back. Been working with Stephanie from Mikado for a month or so now and I've never felt happier with my clothes. Not having to go to the mall makes all the difference. Shopping at home, being able to do it on the weekends. It's perfect. She's not only got such a great eye for style but she's also so kind (to my kids too!), patient and doesn't pressure you to buy anything. Even talked me out of a lot. I feel really good about what I'm wearing now rather than the stuff I was just throwing together before. And my wife is constantly complimenting me which is a huge plus :)

I recently went through a wardrobe purge because of weight gain and an upcoming career transition, so I was seeking a stylist in the Bay Area of Northern California. I received quotes from other stylists in the Bay Area, in California, and out of state, who immediately told me their hourly rate and the services they provided. I appreciate the quick information but this didn't work for me; I am not only inquiring for a project, but also establishing a business relationship. How will their skills fit with the aesthetic I'm looking for if they just immediately tell me their rate and services? Most of all, who are these people? I can look at their portfolios, look them up on LinkedIn, view their websites, but will they work well with me? Will we communicate well? Will our styles clash? I chose Barbra initially because out of the proposed stylists she was the most collaborative, and the most engaging. Barbra was different - instead of telling me her rate, she asked qualifying questions to understand not only who I am, but what my overall take is from getting a stylist. Through here, we began a dialogue and we both got to know each other to see if this would be a good fit. In addition to her professional communication, she has an online presence, LA/NY Fashion Industry experience, and her portfolio shows versatility in style, with a clean aesthetic. I wanted to work with her, so I went forward with a session. Once again, I had a closet purge - my wardrobe can fit in two shelves. How can a woman over android google hangouts, pull out three new looks out of what I have left, a list full of shopping action items, lifestyle tips, and also career/business advising within 15 minutes?? Who does that?? After my session with Barbra I have an outlined Christmas AND NEW YEARS to do list! Barbra is knowledgeable, personable, creative, industry experienced and above all else a real person. She is a people person and wants to help real people feel better about themselves. I highly recommend her. If anything, message her now. Do it!

I can't say enough great things about Lennie. She is a wonderful stylist, educator, coach and enthusiast. A little about me: I'm a 36 year-old female still wearing college clothes from over a decade ago... trying to date and present myself as a lady and eligible bachelorette. I'm 5'2, 25 pounds over weight and VERY curvy. I hate shopping, get discouraged when clothes don't fit, and my favorite thing to wear is an oversized flannel with a denim mini skirt and flip flops. I desperately needed professional help to accomplish my goal. First, I chose her because her bio and website spoke to me. She is knowledgable and experienced, yet affordable. She has worked with celebrities, but is not JUST for them. After our first encounter, I knew I could trust her professional opinion and had 100% confidence in my decision. We met at my house and she started by asking me questions about my background with clothes, how I feel about shopping and my inspiration to hire a stylist. She took notes and listened tentatively. Then, she told me about her background with fashion, but was never boastful or intimidating. She explained the process of what she envisioned for us and how she felt she could really help. Her focus was all on me and she made me feel comfortable. We then went through my clothes together (this part I was so dreading and embarrassed about, but knew it had to be done). I was surprised that instead of making fun of me (like they do on TV)... she was sensitive and compassionate, we even cried together! Respectful of my budget and time, she left me with a list of "homework-to-do" to get ready for our shopping spree. Part of the homework was that her & I create a Pinterest board where we could collaborate and share ideas on styles and brands that we both liked for my future wardrobe. This part was fun, and she initiated it the next day... no lag time to procrastinate and get discouraged! Lennie was always a text message away and I never felt abandoned or forgotten about. In fact, she initiated most of the conversations and made sure I was still on track with our plan. Two weeks later (because of my schedule, not hers) our second meeting was a successful shopping spree! Again, respectful of my budget, she had three stores selected and all the clothes were ready for me in a designated waiting room. She did not waste my time on searching for clothes, rather my time was spent trying on clothes that she had pre-selected and in appropriate sizes. So much of what she picked fit and was affordable... if it didn't fit, we talked about why the piece was wrong as opposed to me blaming my body. If it wasn't affordable but I liked it, she took pics of the tags and said we could watch it & wait for it to go on sale. She always made a point to tally up the price before we left the dressing room, so that I wasn't surprised at the register. She really gained my respect for that and I appreciated her helping me avoid the shock factor. It allowed for us to eliminate pieces in the dressing room (in private) rather than at the counter in front of other people. Also, she embraces the natural beauty of the human body and believes in adjusting the clothes to fit YOU, instead of encouraging you to alter your body to fit the clothes. On that note, I want to mention that she was very informative and educational. She taught me about clothing selection, clothing returns, how to care and manage for certain fabrics, how to care and manage my shoes, and how to select a seamstress for alterations. She was also aware and respectful of my feelings. If I didn't like the way an article of clothing made me feel... I took it off, didn't waste time, and on to the next! If only she could be my wing-woman in a speed dating dinner! Something to consider is that I found it helpful to have a stylist of the same gender, because she was in the fitting room at all times and that allowed for us to make the most of our time. I feel like "IF" I had chosen a male stylist... a lot of time would have been spent on me putting the clothes on, trying to adjust the pieces to fit and then walking out to a common area (lots of time wasted). I also don't think I would have been as comfortable about talking about my body/self image with a male stylist. (As I'm sure many male stylists are great at their job, I just want to mention gender as it as something to consider.) I also think it is important to find a stylist you feel comfortable being naked in front of. I know this sounds extremely raw, and it is, but it makes things easier. With Lennie, I felt empowered, beautiful, and accepted... not judged. I can't thank her enough for what she's done for me and I definitely recommend her above anyone else. I plan on having a long fashion relationship with her and hiring her for seasons to come. I also plan on hiring her for one outfilt-special occasions. After my experience with her, I firmly believe it is best to go shopping with a sylist for that big occasion where the pictures will be looked at for generations to come, rather than a best friend or family member. Best of luck to you, Lennie, and all those who are lucky enough to be in the company of your services! Never ending thanks, Lacy

This was my first experience at hiring a professional to help me clean out and organize my closet, and then take me shopping for the variety of things that were missing in my wardrobe. I am extremely happy that we cleaned out a lot of what was not working in my closet, to make room for what does now work. I needed jackets and pants for work, some travel pieces, some great fitting jeans, new shirts, and some weekend wear. It was an amazing experience and worth taking the time to finally get my wardrobe set, so that I don’t have to think anymore about what to wear. I am now confident that what I put on fits me properly, looks good on me, and fits my personality. Excellent service and I would advise any guy to take the time and go thru the process!

Working with Mariangela's closet was one of the best shopping experiences ever. First of all, Mariangela was very good in responding immediately to every question I had prior to our meeting, which tells me about her professionalism. She is extremely easy to talk to, very honest, passionate about her job and has great "eye" to find you a perfect outfit. I had doubts on one blouse complaining that wasn't my color, but I couldn't win, that woman knows when she is right. I got the blouse and every time I wear it, I get a LOT of compliments (it became one of my favorite items to wear). Even tough our styles very very much differ, I can just show her what I like and she will find the best fitting and the most fashionable item in that category, it's amazing. It is even better if you communicate with her before going shopping on what you like and need, that way she can research on what is new and she will find the best price for it as well! It's like your private fashion google! As a student, she also gave me incredible discount plus we had fun time shopping! Seriously, she is perfect!

Jackie was hired for my daughter's 15th birthday party to share color information with the girls along with some basic do's and don'ts of clothing. She established a great rapport with the girls and they were enthralled. She shared age appropriate information and beginner advice that really helped get the girls started on making good color decisions when shopping. We are looking forward to our private closet consultations and styling.

I highly recommend LEVOImage. I cannot say enough good things about Jesus Moreno with LEVOImage. Whether you are just in the thinking stages of any kind of business, a stay at home Mom who needs some organization, or a high level executive, you will not be disappointed with LEVOImage. Jesus will nail down your needs and present a feasible option for solving your problems right away. I'm a Registered Nurse by profession, but Jesus helped me to propel my consulting idea, confidence, and image into actually getting clients. He masterfully helped my organize my entire home and home office on my budget. He went shopping with me, was present for a special makeover for my hair and makeup. He knew immediately what clothes would fit me and went with me to get them and give feedback on what to purchase. In the end he saved me time, money, stress, and a lot of hassle had I tried to do these things for myself. I might add that I was also coming out of breast cancer treatment, and had just lost my mojo! Jesus helped me get it back and them some!!! I'm on my way to new adventures and making more money to improve my lifestyle and well-being! Thank you to LEVOImae & especially Jesus Moreno!

As a guy with an outdated wardrobe and a lack of a strong sense of style, I was very apprehensive about finding the right person that could guide me through this uneasy styling process. After a phone conversation with Kalee, it was clear to me that she immediately understood my needs and suggested a plan of action. We started with a wardrobe overhaul which included a discussion beforehand about my clothing desires and ended with the donation of a significant portion of my wardrobe that no longer worked or fit my intended image. Kalee worked tirelessly and coached me during this lengthy process so that I could learn what styles and clothing combinations would work best for me. Armed with a notebook full of takeaways from our first meeting along with her photographic memory of my thinned down wardrobe, Kalee set up a full day to go shopping with me. Kalee somehow arranged for early access to the store before it was open so that when I arrived she had a jump start on the day and was filling up a waiting dressing room. Kalee exceeded all of my expectations during this process. Her professionalism, organization, sense of fashion, undeniable patience and amazing passion to help others achieve their style goals was unmatched. I truly value the time and dedication that Kalee provided which has afforded me the privilege to look and feel the way that I have been wanting to for a long time. I just wish that I would have found and taken the chance to work with Kalee a long time ago.

I’m a professional photographer and I have very little time to go shopping and buy myself clothes and style myself. I hired Jessica for wardrobe consultation and personal styling. She brought me so many options for both professional work attire and casualwear for weekends. I loved her attention to details, socks and shoes and pieces to mix and match with some of my existing clothes. I’d definitely recommend her wardrobe styling and consultation services to any of my friends, clients or really anyone looking for a great new wardrobe and styling. Jessica was super sweet, prompt and professional. Affordable pricing as well.

AMAZING! I'm so glad to have found Megan. I wanted an image overhaul after stepping into the world of corporate banking. I didn't want to lose my identity since I'm fairly young to be in the field, but I had to sharpen my look. I brought in a few inspiration photos of outfits I liked on other people and we found pieces that made me really stand out. She made shopping fun as well! She's definitely my go to for any other occasions.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do image consultants do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion, such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion either using either what the client owns or taking a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, your lifestyle, and what you hope to present to the world, and will then determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit one area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.

How do I find a personal stylist?

To find a fashion consultant, start by browsing portfolios online. Styling is a visual art, so finding a fashion consultant who fits the style you desire is key. Great personal stylists aren’t confined to one style, but if you’re seeking a hipper, fashion-forward vibe, you’d do well to find someone with a modern portfolio, while a fashion consultant with a consistently refined style could be a better fit if you’d prefer a more conservative look. Reading reviews is also helpful for learning more about the fashion consultant. Research their training, background and years of experience. After reviewing websites and Instagram accounts, meet with the stylist in person to learn how well they fit your personality; some fashion consultants offer a free phone consultation prior to hiring. Before hiring, make sure you clearly understand their terms of service and payment.

      What is a personal shopper?

Personal shoppers take the pain out of having good fashion. Personal shoppers are paid professionals who work with women, men or children who need style assistance. If you are stuck in a fashion rut, are unsure how to dress in a way that flatters your body, need to revamp your image, or want a more professional career look, personal shoppers can help. Personal shoppers identify the look their client wants to achieve and purchase the necessary clothing and accessories to achieve it. The process often begins with an initial consultation with the client to understand their style goals. This consultation may include a closet “audit,” an assessment of the client’s current wardrobe to see what items can be eliminated and what must be purchased to achieve the desired style.

The client and the personal shopper can shop together, selecting items as a team. The personal shopper may also shop on behalf of the client, then bring all items to the client for a final decision. A third option is pre-shopping, where the personal shopper reaches the store(s) ahead of the client and sets aside clothing for the client to try on, expediting the whole process — a win for anyone who hates spending time in the mall. Personal shoppers can also be hired for one-time events such as weddings, vacations or birthdays. You can also enlist a personal shopper to do your gift shopping for you. Overall, a personal shopper is an investment in making good style choices.

      What is a fashion consultant?

A fashion consultant is a paid professional who will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it to fit your desired lifestyle or career goals. A fashion consultant can provide many services including personal shopping, closet audits, beauty consultations, style consultations and ongoing seasonal services. A fashion consultant often has a design or fashion background (although this is not required) and an innate sense of style. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the colors, cuts and designs we think suit us. A fashion consultant comes in with fresh eyes and provides constructive feedback to guide your style choices.

During your initial meeting, your fashion consultant will take stock of your current clothing selection and learn what you hope to achieve. They’ll identify core wardrobe pieces you need, as well as advise you how to wear items together. Many consultants create style lookbooks for their clients explaining things like exactly which shoes to wear with what pants and how to accessorize each look. Fashion consultants are a great option for people who are updating their style due to age, career changes or body changes, or who are just ready for a new look and feel. Most fashion consultants charge by the hour, with some offering packages and others working from a retainer.

What does an image consultant do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. Image consultants help clients in a number of ways. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion, using what the client already owns or making a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, lifestyle and image you hope to present to the world, and determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit a specific area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.
