Chanting With Cantor Ken

Introduction: As a voice teacher, an ordained Cantor, a b'nai mitzvah tutor with over 15 years' experience, and as a teacher (working toward my California State teaching credential), I bring many skills to the table for a family looking for a B'nai Mitzvah tutor. In addition, I use many approaches to teaching, including using musical instruments, creating study material that is individually crafted for the specific needs of each student. For me, becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a sacred event. At this difficult social time in their lives (let's face it - early middle school is a tough time!) many students are shy and insecure. They are often afraid of standing out in the crowd. Becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah at precisely this time gives them this wonderful boost of confidence that instills in them the knowledge that they can do so much more than they realize. At the same time, they are given a tremendous affirmation by their community, family and peers - during a time in their lives when they really need it! All this is done while they learn to begin contemplate the bigger philosophical issues in the context of learning about their faith and God. Life doesn't often get more meaningful than this.
