Peter could have kept me posted on the one day delay of the shower door delivery. Every thing else was as promised. I am very happy with the shower door, the windows he replaced and the screen he repaired.

Thank you Jovani and Master ACR Glass. I needed someone to determine the extent of repair on over 100 windows on our building. Jovani replied quickly and came up with a plan to identify why water was leaking in numerous windows whenever it rained. Jovani remove several windows with frames out of the wall. He explained what was happening, provided pictures, made the repair, tested the windows with water, before billing me. The cost was as stated. Jovani then gave me a very fair estimate to repair all the windows. I said do it, they did it, it rained, and there were no leaks anywhere. Yes! This guy is the real deal. I am more than pleased with this repair from A to Z. Thanks Jovani! Kenny The Shoreline Church

Larry did an excellent job in hanging curtain rods and blinds in my home for 11 windows. He was quick, efficient, and very professional. He was the first one to respond to my request, and was also the most reasonable. I marveled at the high quality of his workmanship. It was simply outstanding. He was on time for the job. Other workman have had me waiting for several hours or days before they showed up. I was quite surprised when he showed up exactly on time. I recommend him highly for any type of job. I will be calling on him for several projects that we need to do in the future. Handy Werk is the best!!!!!!!!!

Our experience with Hector was amazing. He installed cabinets, lighting, and electrical work in our garage (basically remodeled the garage). He is extremely hard-working and treated the job as if he was doing it for his own house: no shortcuts. His prices are very reasonable and he is a man of his word! You cannot go wrong with Hector! Excellent work and we look forward to working with him on ALL upcoming projects. We have found a handyman for life!

In all my remodeling projects that I did during the years, it was hard for me to even able saying that I really enjoyed the overall experience. Eyal delivered my remodeling project on time as we agreed in the project contract. All the people at the team that was working at my house, was professional, skilled, clean and productive. My remodeling project clearly proved that they are the most talented installers and workers. Eyal, informed me about each and any step of the way from the beginning to the end and I am very happy that I hired him for my house.

I hired Tim to install exterior window shutters after my original shutters were damaged in the rain. Tim was quick to respond to all messages and the project was scheduled that same week. Tim showed up at the scheduled time and completed the project in a timely manner. My new window shutters turned out great and I would hire Tim in the future for my handyman projects.

Oscar was amazing and went above and beyond to get the fridge installed. He had to move an outlet that was not properly placed by my contractor. Made a trip to Home Depot and stayed longer to get it done. I highly recommend him!

It was a pleasure working with Coastlife Construction. We needed to upgrade 3 windows and Dennis was very easy to work with. He's detailed, straight to the point, and very responsive. They were all punctual on all appointments - consultation, measurement/contract signing, and installation. The installers were professionals and worked efficiently. We're very happy with our new windows and we highly recommend Coastlife Construction.

Scott installed a ceiling fan so he can def do electrical and installed some custom forged brackets to put up some really heavy found wood planks for shelves. I was really nervous that the brackets wouldn't hold the weight of these planks but he assured me that they would be fine and put in heavy duty anchors (I think that's what he called them). I was super happy with him and his work. A lot of people don't like to work in Dtla but Scott didn't blink an eye about coming down here. He was early if not on time and he even offered to take his shoes off since we are a non-shoes in the house set up!! He cleaned up after himself too. Will definitely recommend!!!

Soo good - very happy with concrete and tile job in guest house. Like that they didn't turn nose up at work on my weird converted garage - worked hard to troubleshoot all its issues and turn it into a lovely guest house! Also came early each day, just as promised, and worked hard all day - both unusual for LA.

Surepro did a fantastic job replacing my windows and repairing the stucco/repainting my home. There teams worked so fast (the windows were replaced in a day!). Everyone took pride in their work and even did a few extra things when asked. They always arrived on time, worked throughout the day and kept the jobsite clean. No corners were cut, no time was wasted. If you're thinking of repainting or putting in new windows, Surepro needs to be on the top of your list!!

I thought he was a really nice handyman. He worked slow and steady. He did a good job on my porch and 2 bathroom windows. He seems to be a nice person and I will hire him again for several other handyman jobs. He has experience and knows his limitations.

Just had windows installed, yesterday. They look beautiful and it seems that I can already tell the difference in how they filter noise and light. Their installers were also very professional and relatively fast.

Hector Pena did a great job at installing the windows. What I really liked though is how conscious he was about cleaning up after the installation. He was on time, professional, answered all my questions, and was fairly priced. I would recommend him.

We hired Jeff from Rick Dorn Constrution to install some kitchen cabinets in our remodel. We had cabinets picked out already and he recommended some others of better quality for less. Installation took 2 days and he cleaned up after himself. He also pointed out some other things that should be fixed on our project which was greatly appreciated. We would work with them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
