Introduction: "A good heart, a good mind, warm feelings - these are the most important things." -Dalai Lama You don't have to be in shape, or be a pretzel to do yoga! The ancient wisdom of yoga teaches us the value of living in and accepting ourselves in the present moment by using the breath and movement to keep us in tune with our bodies and minds, strengthen our muscles and release stress/tension/pain. Yoga should never be a competition or force you into a position that you are not ready for. A good yoga instructor guides you by giving modifications for every level of ability that help you experience all the benefits of the pose or movement at any given time. Yoga is a journey not a destination. My name is Gina, and I am a certified yoga instructor who teaches Hatha yoga to individuals or small groups at your home/office. I've been practicing yoga over 20 years and have been teaching since 2008. I've taught many different levels and ages of students who have experienced all sorts of injuries, are suffering from physical/mental illness, or are just deciding to strengthen their practice or give yoga a try for the first time. I've taught in after-school programs, yoga studios, one-on-one and in small groups indoors and outdoors. Some populations I've worked with are: women who are fighting cancer, the mentally ill, homeless, elderly people who have a multitude of physical ailments, kids with learning problems/ADHD/ADD and at-risk teens. I am committed to helping adults and children of all ages achieve a stronger and calmer, mind, body and spirit so that they can reach their full potential in their inner and outer world. My goal is to find where the individual is stuck, meet the person where they are and from there, build bridges to healing and ease. With emphasis on correct alignment, an open heart and attention to the present moment, I hope to guide students into an experience of peace and compassion for themselves and others. Yoga has many amazing benefits! * Improved flexibility * Diminished physical pain * High sense of worth * Much healthier organs * Improved coordination * Reduced stress * Relaxation * Greater strength * Improved flow of blood * Lessened chances of injury and re-injury * Awareness of the body * Strengthened endurance * Weight loss * Lowered anxiety * Improved sleep quality *Calmer mind *Improved concentration and focus Please call for more information

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

When I was a little girl, my mom used to watch the Yoga Lady (I'm not sure of the real title) on Channel 11 (PBS). She would get on the floor and make all sorts of breathing noises and stretch into all sorts of shapes. I would sometimes try it out with her and thought it was lots of fun. The most important thing I noticed, was that my mom was feeling better. She was calm and at peace and she was not feeling angry or sad. You see, my mom suffered from bi-polar disorder and even as a little girl of 6 years-old, I could tell what was helping my mom and what wasn't. Yoga was helping. I knew that I wanted to do something when I got older that helped others...that helped them change and feel better, just like how yoga helped my mom. When I got a little older, I learned that it was important to learn how to help myself change and feel better before I could really help others, so I practiced and learned for a long time while pursuing another helping profession (teaching reading). Finally, when I felt strong and connected in my own mind, body and spirit, I trained to become a yoga instructor in 2008. I am now very honored to be able to bring the same peace and healing that was brought to my mother and myself to many, many others.
