"Perfect way to unwind after a long trip overseas! I definitely prefer deep tissue over the “relaxing feel good” massage and Cedric responded to the amount of pressure I wanted. I would recommend a visit!"

"Tonda is the best functional medicine/energy medicine.... massage therapist/biofeedback practitioner that I have ever been treated by. She provided amazing/life saving treatment for my golden-doodle. She is way more than just a massage therapist - she uses her medical intuitive skills along with her 30 years experience as a biofeedback therapist to confirm the cause of the animals challenge- usually a combination of emotional blocks, with subclinical infection and chemicals/heavy metals- and then treats it with her device and gets amazing results! "Jenni gives the best massages I've ever received. I've been to several therapists over time and I'd easily rate hers the best. She knows how to get the trouble spots without torturing you as well as just a really relaxing overall experience. She's very kind, professional, and meets my requests for the day - level of firmness, specific areas, etc. Love Jenni's massages!!"

"I got this massage for my wife who is 38 weeks pregnant. Her OB recommended a pregnancy massage to relieve her back pain and sciatica. Jillian was very communicative from the request to her arrival. She even arrived at our home 15 minutes early, for set up and to talk to my wife on what her needs were. After her 90 Minute session, my wife was a different person: able to walk without pain in her back, legs, and overall felt refreshed. It’s been 48 hours since her massage, and she is still feeling great! She mentioned how she only wished she received more during her pregnancy! She wouldn’t hesitate to call upon Jillian again. She really like her technique and was very personable before and after, yet allowed her to relax during the session. We would certainly welcome Jillian back again. Just all around wonderful person, personable, professional, and superior value for the level of service. Thanks Jillian!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
