Introduction: I currently hold two background checks from professional tutors as well as through Saddleback College. I have been consulting, teaching, facilitating and tutoring for over 30 years. My passion and focus is on helping students and others think critically for themselves using simple techniques that I have practiced with second graders to adults with advanced degrees and in five countries. A key to my success with students is relating real-life experience to the subject. (See below for specific subjects and some background). My experience spans working with second grade to post-doctoral students and adults. I completed my PhD work in physical organic chemistry, and my background is filled with life examples that assist my students to appreciate the value of what they are learning. This includes having been a professional musician with Hollywood stars, a pilot and a business executive who worked in many countries, so I appreciate culture. I founded three companies in medical devices, music and strategy consulting. I tutor math from beginning to applied calculus. I tutor science, including chemistry, physics and biology. I tutor language, arts and reading. I tutor history, English and creative writing, and I teach piano, keyboards and music theory. References are available on request. CEOs, see my business consulting on our website.

Date: July 10th 2013 From: P. Jacqueline Smith (Anaheim union High School District Staff) To: To Whom it may concern: Subject: Rudy Champa letter of recommendation Mr. Rudy Champa has been tutoring my son and some of his friends in the subjects of music, English, Math, and science. Based on our professional association over the past 8 years I’ve found Mr. Champa to be honest and straightforward in his approach to work. He not only has an excellent command of the subject that he teaches, but also he accepts any critique as a learning tool by which he could help students to bring about higher level of achievement. Mr. Champa has demonstrated a high degree of the loyalty to his work and has carried out his obligations with extreme vigor and resolve. He connects with students really well too. He is patient, and knowledgeable of how to deal with every student psychology. In his music/piano and theory teaching, his professional performance and recording experience allows him to take classical basics, and relate them to pop, rock, jazz, new age and other styles that kids relate to. My son was not an easy student to work with. Mr. Champa's patience was outstanding. As for other academic subjects, his pedagogy style in teaching them is an additional quality of Mr. Champa as he has broad and varied experience with applying those subjects to life's challenges. He will certainly be an asset to any group with which he associates and works. I would recommend him without reservation.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

If you are a student, for tutoring the simple flat fee is $35/hr, for 1-on-1 tutoring in your home or wherever you choose - this includes travel expense and time up to 20-40 miles. However, there are many variables: if you commit to a semester /year of tutoring, and/or multiple hours per week, the fee is negotiable. On occasion, once started with a student that is working mutually well, if the parent or student's financial situation changes like getting laid off, I have tutored free or made other temporary accommodations; that, of course, is on a case-by-case basis. FOR A BUSINESS CONSULTING CLIENT: I believe in working fixed fee rather than time and material. There are several excellent reasons for this from your (the client's) perspective. There are way, way too many variables to give any prices here in general. But my proven work, processes, professional books, successful outcomes, etc. has commanded fees ranging from $2,500 to $95,000.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

    1) Three key areas: a) Management consulting especially strategy; b) Music (keyboards and theory /performing); and c) Tutoring primary and secondary students in math, science, language arts, music, and business. 1a) BUSINESS: to help CEOs, Presidents, owners, Sr. Executives and all others down to floor level to grow and improve their operations and profitability. If they own the business, to help them to both leave their legacy while optimizing the value of their businesses for maximum return on their life work. My work has been proven in over 50 companies, from start-up to global Fortune 50, in 5 countries and in over a dozen industry segments. see website. www.spi-us.com I am a professional, internationally experienced, certified management consultant and author of 4 books and a Video. 1b) MUSIC: I help keyboard students in classical technique, theory, and performance but i specialize in relating it to pop improvisation and jazz. The focus is on you--what do you want most? Let's get there the quickest and with the most fun. 1c) TUTORING: I assist students from primary to college level to raise their grades in math, science, and language arts by one to two levels - while relating to real life examples and situations drawn from my international experience as well as being a pilot, and a musician. I am passionate about helping students "think critically".

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Talk to me the old fashioned way... verbally. We will both quickly determine whether we are good match that meets your specific needs; all too many so-called "tutors" will point to the success of their past students; or if you are a business consulting client, they will point to their past successes... that is all well and good but quite insufficient. The only real thing that counts is how they will use all that experience and success on your specific, and particular needs and goals.
