FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Yes. My typical hourly rate per session is $50. That includes my session preparation time, the hour training session and any travel time necessary. Often the first session lasts up to 90 minutes if I haven't obtained all the background information over the phone prior to the first visit, BUT I still only charge $50 even for a longer first session. I do not charge any additional fees for phone calls.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically obtain some routine medical background in case there are conditions and/or issues which may directly impact a client's ability to exercise safely and effectively and which may necessitate modifications of exercise routines. In addition an exercise history is discussed including previous participation in sports activities, exercise classes, use of machines at a gym, and any experiences with a trainer as well as the client's own assessment of their fitness level, needs and goals. During the first few sessions I do my own evaluation of each client's fitness level including strength, flexibility, stamina, and cardiovascular condition. I incorporate all of this information in my preparation of individualized session plans for each client for every session.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an MA degree in Clinical Psychology and an MA degree in School Psychology. Through my training and years of employment experience as a Psychologist I have worked with clients of all ages from young children to adults. I use my skills to help my clients feel good about themselves, improve their self-esteem and promote a very positive and supportive environment. I'm extremely patient and encouraging and sensitive to each client's needs and frustration levels. My communication and professional skills are excellent and I relate well to all clients. My many years of continuing participation in Jazzercise, intensive training as a Jazzercise instructor and Personal Trainer, and deep understanding of exercise physiology and anatomy through classes I have attended have provided me with considerable expertise in not only being able to do the exercises correctly, but to be able to teach someone else to do so. Exercises done incorrectly are more likely to injure and will not achieve the desired results. I create an individualized step-by-step progression for every exercise for each client based on their fitness progress, needs, goals and limitiations if any. In addition to the above my Personal Training education and experiences have contributed to my expertise as a trainer. Before seeking paying clients, I informally worked with friends and family as a Personal Trainer and in some cases nutritional consultant to gain experience. As a Psychologist I found it fulfilling to nurture others and improve their emotional and learning issues. As a Personal Trainer I find it equally fulfilling to improve each client's fitness and physical well-being which often improves their self-esteem, confidence and functioning as well. As a nutritional consultant I have attended classes on nutrition and have read much information on nutritional modifications for diabetes and weight loss. I am very experienced in working with people with those conditions as well as other medical conditions which require dietary modifications.
