Pros:Professional, great communication, sustainable building practices. Would recommend.Cons:Sometimes hard to get a hold of, start dates where far out b/c he is busy (which is a good thing if you think about it).Mike Stokes of Lush Planet Design Build (LPDB) did an incredible job on a very challenging project. Our cabin is located on a steep hillside in Monte Rio and has a lot of stairs. Our lower set stairs had rotted out and this was the steepest section of steps. We contacted quit a few contractors looking for a competitive bid. Many never even returned our calls or e-mails.The environmental impact of the project was very important to us. We wanted to insure that the materials and practices used would be as green as possible. Many a contractor did not want to hear our ideas or listen to how we wanted to approach the project. Mike communicated with us from the get go and listened. Another great thing about Mike was that he did a great job of managing our expectations. Many a contractor will promise the world (eg completion dates, costs, etc). LPDB bid was not the cheapest but it was not the most by far. He also realized looking at the project that the pitch of the stairs was going to be challenging and gave us a realistic completion date and kept us updated during the project.In the end we had a beautiful set of stairs in which he was able to use reclaimed wood from the old set of stairs and sustainable harvested wood for the rest. Completed on time and on budget. We had him lined up to do some more projects but circumstances changed and we are selling the cabin. If you want your project done the way you want with sustainable practices, done on time and on budget look no further. He does tend to be busy especially during the spring and summer. It can be hard to get a hold of him to start and the start time for projects can be farther out that you hope for during the busy season.

We really enjoyed working with Lush Planet Design Build. We found Mike as a local contractor and he remodeled a little old cabin we bought into our dream vacation home over the course of 10 months. Couldn’t have asked for an easier and more enjoyable working relationship and experience. I’d always heard that remodeling and construction is the hardest part of owning a home but I can confidently say we loved it, thanks to Mike’s skills, design help and overseeing our vision come to life. Would hire Lush Planet Design Build again in a heartbeat.
