Michelle is a warm and inviting person who made me feel comfortable very quickly. She has been a great mentor and helped me overcome many obstacles in the aftermath of a serious life event I experienced. I felt I could be me without any concern for fear of how she may react. I have done traditional therapy but have preferred her holistic approach to combining therapy with a goal oriented approach to solving problems one may be experiencing. I have been able to get to a much better place in my life thanks to her support and the perspective she helps me obtain through self reflection. She encourages you just enough to help you push past your self-set limits without ever feeling like she is pushing you past your boundaries. Somehow, I always get to the realization I need on my own terms but with the help of her encouragement. I love her approach and feel that her respectful manner along with her warm, understanding attitude creates a space for one to really get down to one's core and find one's self in the process. She has truly been a gift to my life.

From: Dr. Steven Bartz My background in medicine spans over 30 years. Based in hard sciences, my first job was as a respiratory therapist working primarily in critical care units and E.R.’s. My doctorate is in chiropractic. The concept of “Reiki” seemed rather fringe and suspect to me at first. Then I began to study this concept, I came to realize that this system is actually based on modern day application of quantum physics, meaning that all life is based on energy substrates. Reiki to my understanding is based on manipulating these energy fields in a manner somewhat similar to how I manipulate the joints to affect the neurological system. My skepticism was thoroughly addressed when out of desperation and suffering for several years with debilitating back pain, “Yes, the irony is not lost in that of a chiropractor with a bad back.” I sought the treatment of Reiki by Katherine McBride. I have to say I’m rather amazed that in only 3 sessions I experienced a 80% (at least) improvement in symptoms. Now, due to my own positive results, I refer my patients to her for therapy. She is now available to see and schedule appointments through my office and the feed-back I have received from these patients has been overwhelmingly positive. Sincerely, Dr. Steven Bartz D.C.

I was under a lot of stress and needed a good therapy. I went online and checked with Tanisha and booked an appointment immediately. I must tell you, this place is heaven. The ambiance was very relaxing, we had an in-depth discussion about my requirement and the massage was 10/10. she was right on target, targeting the right points which made my pain and stress go away. Definitely I will be going again.

When it comes to massge therapy, yoga or anything of the sort I'm a skeptic by nature. Alex was referred to me by a mutual friend who swore by her work and she completely changed my perspective on body therapy! Not only did her private yoga sessions increase my flexibility and ability to focus, but her bodywork mastery has had me feeling more centered and comfortable in my own skin than I have in years. Highly recommend. Thank you, Alex!

I hired her for boyfriend with the intent to also try too soon. She was warm and easy to talk to. It was evident that she believes in the therapy and really wants to help people. The bf was a bit skeptical but tells me he enjoyed the experience; he definitely felt different, I noticed him also a bit more connected and present after the session . I look forward to trying it too soon. Highly recommend!

Functionality! Having worked with Kz (I should get copyrights on that name since I started using it with her, what, 6 years ago?!! In all seriousness, Kz does what she does with such intuitive friendliness and grace that I sometimes forget I'm getting a massage as well. I'm a manic painter who will do hours/days painting and be an aching sore mess afterward. All these years later I ty not to take it for granted that I leave every session having had a FANTASTIC MASSAGE. I am not just refreshed, but invigorated; I'm in tune with my body, my feelings, and my muse. I've also come to know that I spent some very real time with a real, loving woman who listens without judgment, offers sage advice when appropriate and for that time we share together it is only us. Kz is truly empathic! I honestly feel she has helped me in so many ways beyond the therapy of her physical massage. The therapy of her being: being completely with me and working through my physical, mental, spiritual, psychic ( I hadn't been that open to metaphysical concepts before) and artistic knots (now knowing they are all connected) is something I cannot put a value upon. If Kz was not such a great mom, wife and human--she would be a superstar. She should be a superstar! She is as good as it gets. I'm thankful for our sessions, but I'm so blessed to call her friend!

Kim is such a wonderful kind and caring therapist she took her time to get to know me and ask questions about me so that I may get the full benefit of the therapy. She wrote a program that was tailored to me and what I wanted to accomplish. I came in and out of hypnosis 2x. She is so positive and it was easy to talk to her. Will be going back to her. If you have a problem I recommend you see her you will see a difference in your first session.

Wow!!! I didnt want to leave a comment because I wanted to keep Alex all to myself. But I have to give credit where credit is due. He gave me the most amazing massage ever. His hands are so soft. It seemed as if I was getting a massage from a woman, but it was much stronger and a lot more pressure. It was wonderful. My whole body was massage and it felt amazing. The only thing is, this comes with a warning... you will be hooked!

I have experienced several sessions so far. Every time it has been incredibly professional, incredibly profound, and incredibly helpful. The best part about this form of healing is knowing that it's my higher self taking care of what I'm able to accept in that moment and having a trained facilitator only validates the experiences I have. This form of healing satisfies me so much I no longer feel the need to do other methods. But that is just me and my preferences. I like how clear this feels, how balanced this feels, and how loving this feels. -Erin

Yesterday I had my first session with Mary Grace at RBM&W. I have chronic lower back pain that flares up from time to time. Mary Grace concentrated on my problem areas but also provided considerable time and attention to full body therapy needs. It was one of the best massages I have ever had and I feel so much better today. I'm looking forward to my next scheduled visit.

We offer Buddhist-based counseling and therapy. Try a non-traditional alternative. The Spiritual Adulthood Therapy & Counseling Project is a Buddhist-based, more alternative Asian approach to relating with your "self". "What is accepted by the majority of people does not mean it is real." - The Buddha, 500 BC We provide private, insightful, one-on-one therapy and mindfulness life coaching and relationship counseling for marriages, couples, all kinds of partnerships, workplace and friendships. For emotional and communication breakdowns, we offer "reaching out to reach deep in". "The lotus has its roots in the dank dark mud, Grows up through the cloudy deep water, And finally rises to the surface. It blooms into perfect harmony and purity in the sunlight. It is like the mind unfolding into perfect joy and wisdom..." - The Lotus Sutra Please go now to our counseling blog site; the best info is there! You will find many more of your FAQs responded there. It's really an interesting site. Take your time to graze around in it. Hopefully, you'll certainly know a lot more about what you need when you've done some reading at the blog. The Spiritual Adulthood Therapy & Counseling Project is located at Santa Monica, CA 90405; near Santa Monica College. For our email and phone number, see the service window. The best phone times to contact us are noon to 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday. The initial phone contact is always the best and most immediate. Thanks, Akasa Levi, DhMA ( D.Min.) Counseling Supervisor "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase; just take the first step." - Martin Luther King At Spiritual Adulthood, we apply the Buddhist psycho-spiritual approach to the mind. "The journey itself is the destination!" We offer a uniquely combined counseling: an innovative, holistic, spiritual variation of the mind-therapies, based in practical, quite highly scientific Buddhist wisdom combined with a gentle, accepting, gradual compassionate view towards all beings. "Buddhist mindfulness-based guidance" with its long humanitarian history, is a well-respected ancient Asian, non-religious, more spiritual option to the regular standard model of Western clinical therapies. Buddhism is not "religious", it is Asian-psychology based. You certainly can be a sincere, deeply spiritual person without being religious, without having any higher authorities and that helps to truly open the heart and mind to trust and sensibility. This is not a licensed psychotherapy! Please visit our blog for the details and the disclaimer. We assist in healing the mind in the midst of these very edgy, scary, confusing, disappointing, over-driven, tense, survival-stressed, anxious uncertain times. Buddhist Inner Work: "Therapy" is not found in even the best of books or CDs, or on the internet. It's a live interactive relating process; it always has been. Interactively, that's how the problems started. Well, that's how they have to resolve! For the therapy, two people sit down and emphatically work on one of them. It's living, live, dynamic and face to face. This time around, it's a cooperative dyad of two people who care, and are in on this. Therapy counseling is a relationship in its truest form, and that's always disturbingly risky for the wounded spirit to change. "The greatest risk is not taking one." Spiritual Adulthood is offering a much more radical form of counseling, more geared to people in the whole spectrum of contemporary creative arts and the best of new thought-minded sensibilities. Maybe it is more green, liberal, or cultural and creative. Maybe it is just you. The Spiritual Adulthood exploration encourages and supports a very eclectic "inquiry into self" practice, combining the cool, calm observation approach of traditional, quiet mindfulness meditation with effective "crazy wisdom" irrationality of Zen-mind realizations that can cognitively short circuit the common, but so obsessive self-involved, self-absorbed and self-identified ego mind. "One easily made, very common mistake is to think that your reality is "the" reality. You must always be prepared to bravely leave your reality for a greater one." - Meeraji We encourage highly inquisitive, progressive-minded people, with a natural, deep love of learning who relish the abstract, and even the absurd and have a genuine taste for the indefinable existential stuff. Buddhist psychology is playful too. "...ever noticed that it's always now." - Alan Watts He suggests that you repeatedly keep noticing this many times a day. Usually, the people who do eventually come to us are more explorative, curious, do have a more active intellect and are innately, intensely inquisitive people by their nature. There are not ordinary Americans. The "inner search", "the quest" and "the mystery" are the understanding of it all. They are people who relish the "safari" of it, the search, the inquiry, the brave quest of it, hurting or not, rather than popular ideas and packaged prescriptions just served-up and ready to eat. There is no quick fix. Enlightened freedom is experiential. It is not just a home-deliverable product. For each of us, all growth is a life-long psychological pilgrimage, experienced through a compassionate spiritual heart that includes live, full, rich relationship experiences with all other living beings. Question: "Grandfather, what is destiny?" Destiny is every step we are taking and going through right now to get there. "So, you really must consciously choose and make the choice of good spirits to re-choose again and again to openly talk truth with someone and keep it up. Keep it up to openly keep talking with someone. This is to be open to trust in gradually letting it all arise and unfold, messy or tidy, depressed or distressed. We all have these feelings. It's nothing new." - Grandfather Bearheart, contemporary Creek Elder "Eighty percent of success is just showing up." - Woody Allen Go ahead, and get into some quality counseling or therapy. You are really being heard here or somewhere that they will really take a deep caring to listen to you and really, really hear you and that is a very courageous move on your part: to move yourself into a counseling setting. It just may be the right place for you to start. Be very welcome to inquire more about us, as you search out where to do this inner work. Please read some more on this site. Buddhist-based wisdom offers compassionate, effective alternative approaches to relating with your "self" and all other living beings. Awaken the "compassionate insight" that is naturally deep within you and within mostly everyone. This is a liberal-minded therapy for intelligent, sensitive, intellectual and gifted, creative people who are often odd, often wonderfully offbeat, yet are now very discomforted, unhappy people. We offer an empathic, warm Asian-style of alternative treatment of mind well-being that just may be a more natural, truly effective, non-traditional approach. We are offering another possibility as a workable therapy approach for you. There are no obligations! It's a free phone consultation! Please go to our blog site and read a bit. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

  • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
  • Nutritional medicine
  • Botanical medicine
  • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
  • Hygiene
  • Counseling
  • Minor surgery
  • Homeopathy
  • Acupuncture
  • Intravenous and injection therapy
  • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

  • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
    • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
  • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
    • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
    • Do I need a referral?
    • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
    • What will the co-pay be?
    • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
  • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.
