Brian did a fantastic job with our gutter cleaning. He was on time, extremely professional and his work quality was really solid. He took out three bags of dirt and leaves from our gutters. He also pressure washed our brick patio and walkway and it looks like new. Highly recommended.

Gus ably met our need to enlarge the hole in our kitchen counter to accomodate a new cooktop. He was warm and personable. He took precautions to not make a mess and cleaned up what was unavoidable. He arrived on time. His fees are reasonable. I am planning to use him for some more work.

Willy was very straightforward in all his communications, quotes, and timing to complete our very slanted, high-roof, 2-story-house complete gutter installation project. Despite unexpected setbacks (some rain, co-workers backing out so that he did the whole job himself), he completed everything in a very timely fashion, explained everything he did, offered to do extra work for relatively cheap, and made everything look very professional and beautiful. He is very friendly, extremely reasonable, skilled, and diligent. I'd hire him again in an instant if another job arises. 5+ stars!

Mike answered our call to take a message. He was busy working. He called us back later that evening as we discussed. We set an appointment for 2 days later. He was on time and ready to work. His work was completely professional and he cleaned everything up. Gave us advice as we had a couple of separate issues. He said he would come back if we needed anything else. He’s 32 Miles from our house. Sometimes I can’t get someone who lives in our city to give us a call back. Mike was outstanding. I strongly recommend him for services. Andy and Margo P.S. His prices were very reasonable

I really liked the work that he did for us at home. We had just planned to do a granite countertop, but we had various other things that needed to get done. He was quite the handyman and left everything clean...definitely will call again when needed.

We thought we would need to replace our two year old fence due to deterioration sun and dirt. We also needed a poorly constructed gate fixed. Rick gave us bids to replace and to clean (significantly lower). He tested the cleaning product, which worked great! He cleaned sanded and stained more than 80 feet of street facing fence and now it looks great. Rick communicated well, was diligent, did a great job and saved us thousands with his suggestions. I'll use him again.

Though the problem I was trying to have fix was not gutter related, Kevin was extremely helpful and honest in pointing me towards the real issue. It’s a level of integrity that’s rare and pleasant.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why is it important to clean your gutters?

Rain gutters, those easily-forgotten trenches that hang off the edge of your roof, protect your roof, walls and foundation from excess rainwater. When they get clogged with leaves, sticks and other wind-blown debris, they can no longer direct water away from your walls and foundation, and may become homes for pests and insects. They also become heavy enough to pull away from the house, preventing proper rainwater drainage and spoiling the appearance of your home. Experts recommend inspecting and cleaning your gutters twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, as part of your regular landscaping schedule. Gutter cleaning and maintenance is a fairly easy DIY job for some homeowners, especially on one-story homes. However, professional gutter cleaners have ladders tall enough to safely reach rain gutters, as well as the necessary tools to clean out the downspouts. Most gutter cleaning professionals can also make any necessary quick repairs.

How much does it cost to have gutters cleaned?

Professional gutter cleaning and maintenance should be done once or twice a year to remove debris and check for damage to the roof and gutter. The national average cost for rain gutter cleaners ranges from $100 to $130. A number of factors affect the costs, including the combined length of the gutters, the size of the house, the location of the gutters, and any risks posed to the professional cleaner. Some companies based their cost estimates on the linear square footage of the gutters; for example, 200 linear square feet of gutters on a standard, single-story ranch-style home costs an average of $125 to clean. The cost goes up for second- and third-story gutters and those in hard-to-reach places, like a roof with an unusually steep pitch. Expect to pay at least $100 more than standard prices if cleaning your home’s gutters requires extra safety precautions. Because spring and fall are gutter cleaners’ busiest seasons, some gutter cleaning and maintenance companies offer discounts during summer and winter months.

How often do you need to clean your gutters?

Gutter cleaning and maintenance is an important part of keeping up a home. Not only are clogged gutters unsightly, they can also lead to water damage in the house’s walls and roof. The best way to prevent that is to clean your gutters at least twice a year — experts recommend making it part of your spring cleaning and fall landscaping schedules. In the fall, trees lose their leaves and, in the spring, release seedpods and flower petals, all of which tend to end up in rain gutters. It’s a good idea to also have a professional gutter cleaner clear out your downspouts, too; clogged downspouts can make gutters backup and overflow.
