Steve and his crew are exceptionally professional, quick and on time. He and Jerry came to do a simple roof repair, and we are so impressed with them that we are now using them for all of our roofing, construction and restoration needs. These are the kind of guys I would be completely trusting to leave at the unlocked house if needed.

MARK IS MORE THAN A MERE HANDYMAN! He is an extraordinary craftsman! I hired Mark to reinstall a costly 30 x 40 recessed medicine cabinet, which had been haphazardly installed by a general contractor. He cut the drywall to raise the cabinet, because it had been installed to low, leaving little room for a faucet; built a wood frame for the cabinet, where one had not been built by the contractor; moved the plumbing lines; built a base for a new wall-mount faucet, before we had a counter-mount faucet; installed the medicine cabinet; made sure all was level; and closed the drywall whole. Mark then installed the rough plumbing for our shower, bathtub, and sink. Mark did a fantastic job! He is a gem! He has a GREAT personality, fantastic work ethic, very methodical, has an eye for detail, not afraid of a challenge, and is truly a master craftsman.

Tom is friendly and efficient. That's why he is busy. Found him to be honest and reliable. I believe hiring a real contractor for roof repair was very important, because I don't want to wait for the next rain to see if he did a good job or not. I trust him and his quality of workmanship.

I was referred to Team All Star by my friend who they had done some work for to do my house remodel, they did my roof, my windows, my air conditioning, a new patio and painted. All the work was started at the same time and they completed it in about a week. I am so happy, all the workers from the roofers to the painters did an amazing job, and I just love my windows. Larry came out with Sean and gave me some tips on design and it all has turned out so beautiful. I want to mention that even though I called Larry a lot, he never complained even when it was 10 pm, he always was kind and courteous. Dealing with Larry and Team All Star was like working with my family, they really made me feel important. Thanks you guys!

I had some very bad experiences with some of the companies I had quote me on painting our house. Mostly from extremely disrespectful and high pressure salesmen. Carlo was a breath of fresh air. He is professional, straightforward and communicates very well. Carlo did exactly what I wanted which was "Here's what we're gonna do, here's why it's a good idea, here's the time frame. I'll charge you a reasonable price" SurePro actually cost far less than the quotes I had from other high end painters, which was a feather in my cap. The painters that actually came out to do the work were courteous and unobtrusive. Their quality of work was top notch and they completed the work in the time frame given (there were some weather delays and Thanksgiving was also in there). After having dealt with MANY different contractors since owning my home, SurePro was by far the easiest and most reasonable to work with. Highly recommended.

I had some of the fascia replaced and some repaired. I could not be happier with the work. They were very professional and answered all my questions. They cleaned up very nicely after themselves. The job was completed in the time promised and within budget. I would recommend this company to anyone needing roofing work.

Stucco, exterior paint, electrical, kitchen exhaust vent hookup, roofing and miscellaneous work. It started with stucco, but found he and his subs to be competent and Raul ended up completing or fixing some jobs that had not been done or incorrectly done by others. He was very easy to work with and honest. I believe his prices were fair as well. Oh, and he actually began and finished on time! That is a miracle in itself for this industry. I wish I had found him before starting the remodel. I would highly recommend him.

Bathroom. Complete gut, replace tub, flooring, walls, vanity/sink. Ed worked with us through out the project. Very helpful with deciding on details. He picks up all materials and everything is cleaned up at end. I am a residential contractor from another state but did not have time for this project. I know the trade and feel comfortable with his level of knowledge and experience. Ed goes the extra mile to do the right thing. He is already working up a quote for another job for us.

I had a roof leak in which i hired 2 other contractors for and they were unable to fix it. I hired Vital Core to come out and see if they could figure it all out. They performed a water test and pinpointed the issue. They repaired it promptly and I have had no issues since. Was an overall great experience with this company!

We just finished our remodeling in kitchen and dining room with Iz Construction. We are very satisfied with their professional and efficient work. Everyone told us 'contractors are never on time', but Iz Construction is different! Not only did they customize everything upon our request, but they also met our tight schedule, even finished earlier! In order to finish on time, they started at 8 am everyday, and worked till 7 or 8 pm sometimes. Also when something needs to be changed or fixed, they were always there, and always did it in the way we asked. Moreover, we were very pleased to see the professional way they used to separate the working area and our living area, which allow us to live in our house comfortably even with construction going on. Thank you, Iz Construction, we are enjoying our new house very much! I really suggest this company to everyone!!!!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
