I am a busy physician with multiple offices, and efficiency and productivity are very important to me. I have now worked with Michael for more than 5 years now during which time he has helped me in various capacities. While his primary responsibility was in SEO, he also played a major part in developing our website as well as patient educational applications and office operational software. I have found him to be genuine, resourceful, practical, and highly effective.

BitCot has earned an exalted place in app development history by achieving the rare trifecta of delivering a high quality app on time, within budget, and according to spec. And the CEO Raj Sanghvi made it all a pleasant experience. I highly recommend BitCot for software development.

Fotex has done an OUTSTANDING job for me so far! I'm normally too busy to rate every business, take part in every phone survey, and "answer a few simple questions about your experience". I felt compelled to give these guys 2 thumbs up because they have been truly awesome. I have an e-commerce site and between Olga and Kostya they can handle web development, graphic design, photo editing, social media, software integration etc. They just finished designing a custom document for me and the turn around time was less than 24 hours. The response time from Fotex is a huge bonus because my last person was slow and that hurt productivity. The bottom line is they are fast, knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced. I was a little nervous going outside my referral base but they have an actual office and were happy to meet with me there. I found a great new business partner. THANKS!

Hello, My company, OIS Cloud, has worked with Sunvera Software for over two years on a variety of hosting and new site development projects. These ranged between large and small accounts from both a support environment to the project coding of new features in the Magento eCommerce platform, which is one of their specialties. In every instance I found their quality of work and timeliness of delivery to exceed our expectations. I highly recommend Sunvera Software and their team for your project needs. I worked side-by-side with Dan for over 5 years at a well-known architecture firm in Orange County, California. I cannot say enough about Dan in such a short space. I found him to be an exceptional database application developer. He can manage a project as well as he can perform the workload himself. He is very strong in Microsoft technologies and keeps up on them as they emerge. He has been doing this type of work since the early 90's and maybe even earlier. He is extremely personable and an outstanding communicator. He has a keen understanding of core business objectives. He is also one of the most well-rounded individuals I have ever met in business. In a pinch, he has temporarily taken the role of head of IT to help his clients make necessary changes to their employee structure and better serve their long-term objectives. He is a great guy and I would recommend him to anyone interested in contracting with him in the hi technology arena.

Bernadette assisted us with a three month project to help document all of our processes. We were tired of training staff that were constantly turning over. This allows us to have a more consistent training program so that all staff are trained properly and all should have the same knowledge. The total project took about 3 weeks. She also provided training classes for internal staff in order to get us started. She has also helped develop our new employee orientation program and various internal documents.

Lane at Kevant is truly amazing! He took a lot of time upfront to understand our business and educate us on the pros and cons of Drupal versus Wordpress for our project. They rebuilt our internal inventory management system used by our internal employees and about 3000 of our vendors. In the end, we went with Drupal. The execution from Kevant was great - frequent communication and updates. They quality checked their work before asking us to review it. We couldn't be happier with the end result and we've had countless positive comments from our vendors using the new system. We will definitely be working with them again. Highly recommended!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I find a good app developer?

A good app developer can help you if your company wants to build a new mobile app for customers but you don’t have an IT or development team on staff. First, decide whether you want an app made for the iPhone or Android phones or both, then start your search by finding an app developer with expertise in your chosen platform. Ask for samples of their work, such as code samples, that can be tested on open source repository sites like GitLab and GitHub. You can also interview firms that specialize in mobile app development for small companies or startups; they should be able to offer examples of different types of apps they’ve built, and are likely to have expertise in a range of technologies and platforms. Before you sign a contract, make sure to ask prospective app developers these questions:

    • What other apps have you developed? Make sure the apps in their portfolio reflect the type of work you want to have done for your company. It’s especially helpful if they understand your industry.
    • What technology and development services do you offer? Ideally, an app developer will conduct a business analysis, develop the app, perform quality testing and make sure the launch is successful.

Will you maintain the app after it’s launched? Releasing an app is only the beginning. You’ll need someone to maintain it too, releasing updates and fixing bugs.

    Who builds apps?

Apps are usually built by software developers who specialize in mobile software. They may be experts in just one mobile software development language or know several, and may have expertise in front-end or back-end web development. No matter what kind of phone or tablet you carry, there are hundreds of apps for it — and new ones seem to be added to the app stores every day. Before you hire an app developer, it’s important to have specific goals for your app and a clear idea of its purpose. When your company is ready to build an app, you can hire a freelance app developer or work with an app development company that can also support the app after it’s launched. It’s important to know whether you’ll need the developer to provide ongoing maintenance and support or if your internal IT team can maintain it after its launch.

How much does it cost to hire an app developer?

Software development is a serious investment for any company, costing thousands of dollars for even basic apps. It’s tough to estimate costs because there are so many variables to each project: user requirements, feature set, complexity, size, etc. Mobile apps can cost from $20,000 to more than $100,000, depending on what you need the app to do. The average national cost of an app developer is $237.50 per hour, but prices vary widely depending on location, type of app, features, and much, much more.

To get a sense of what hiring an app developer might cost, decide first what kind of software you need. In general, app developers charge hourly fees based on the language they’ll use to code the software. Freelancers cost less than large software development firms, typically charging an average of:

    • Basic C development: $75-$150 per hour.
    • Front-end web development: $50-$75 per hour.
    • Back-end web development: $75-$150 per hour.
    • API development: $75-$150 per hour.
    • Desktop app development: $30-$100 per hour.
    • Mobile app development: $30-$150 per hour.

Larger software vendors charge much more, often as much as $300 to $400 per hour.
