Introduction: My teaching is currently grounded in the Swedish Italian school of classical singing, as passed along by Maestro David Jones and my own Teacher, Dr Julia Hunt-Nielsen. I am also a yoga alliance certified, practicing yoga teacher (ERYT 500), and continually study Alexander Technique. This gives me a keen eye for alignment and how people are using their bodies and breath, as well as more subtle flows of energy I love the aha! moments. Sometimes I have to find many different ways to describe a particular concept, and it may take a student months to really FEEL a nuance of technique. But inevitably that moment comes when the lightbulb goes on and the voice blossoms and gains power and beauty. Those moments bring tears to my eyes.

Singing Lessons

We had a great first lesson. We were both a little nervous and Sam was so encouraging and made us both very comfortable. We are looking forward to our next lesson!

Singing Lessons

Samuel is an excellent instructor: open, encouraging, astute, knowledgeable, and kind. My singing improved markedly during our first lesson, and you can bet I'm going back again!

Singing Lessons

To be honest, I've only had one lesson with Samuel so far, but it was an experience and a half, and I am definitely going back

Singing Lessons

Just had my first voice lesson with Sam and it was amazing. Sam's very patient, encouraging, and most of all effective with the voice learning process. When we wrapped up, we went over what we covered and how I can practice before the next one. I had a great time during the lesson, booked a few more sessions on the spot. Highly recommended!

Singing Lessons

Sam creates such a safe space to explore your voice. It was the first time for me to practice vocals and the first time to have my voice come out so nicely. Took one lesson. Excited for the next lessons.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Yes. $90 per hour, or $50 per half hour. Students make the most progress with recurring weekly lessons, although due to schedules or budget, some opt for a schedule-as-you-go model. Purchase 4 upfront to receive a 10% discount Also, brand new students can purchase a 50% off, 30 minute introductory lesson

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The first lesson is often diagnostic, as I learn not just about the new student's voice, but also how they think. This helps me to formulate a long term plan suited to their individual needs. Some people have lots of body awareness and can make subtle changes right off the bat. Some people require more time and education. I also understand that it is very vulnerable for most of us to open up and sing in front of a new person, and I never assume what I hear on the first day is an accurate representation of someone's full potential

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I continue to study with my own teacher, as well as read new material the pedagogy of voice. I also participate in Maestro David Jones' voice teacher mentorship program. I attend performances regularly, to stay abreast of standard practices. I have an extensive resume of performance experience, including opera, musical theatre, oratorio, choral, and cabaret.
