Dee Cee is the best dogwalker I have ever had. She is reliable, trustworthy, and my two Rottweilers absolutely love her. She walks them an hour each day, Monday through Friday. I can't say enough good things about her. I trust her with my dogs more than I do members of my own family.

Nothing but positive things to say. Contacted Cynthia and Darren less than a week prior to my week-long vacation seeing if they could sit our cat and bunny. They said it was no problem, came to our house to meet our pets the night I called. While we were gone, they left texts on arrival and departure each night, sent pics and videos. We felt great knowing our pets were in such good hands while we were gone. Cynthia and Darren's genuine love for animals shines through in their attitude and enthusiasm for the job. Highly recommend!

I appreciate the attentiveness to my dog. As well as the ability for other dog walkers/sitters to be available of my regular walker/sitter isn't available.

I was very impressed with the service I got from Aggie. I didn't book until pretty late (for Thanksgiving) but Aggie assured me they'd find a sitter for me, and in the end she did it herself. After just one intro visit I could tell she had a good feel for cats, she even petted our scaredy cat without scaring him off. During the sitting she sent us many pictures and the cats looked happy and comfortable with her there. Upon return we found the house cleaner than we left it and the cats were all relaxed and happy to see us, not at all traumatized. Even the scaredy cat, who she had to give eye drops 3x daily, was relaxed and his eye was in great shape. I would highly recommend Aggie and Care Pet Sitters to anyone with cats or pets who need medication.

Victoria is WONDERFUL! She took care of my two cats for almost two weeks while I was traveling. She came to the house twice a day, sent photos, kept in touch via texts and even went above and beyond to clean out my fridge while I lost power. I would definitely recommend Victoria to anyone that needs a trustworthy pet sitter and would absolutely call her when I go on my next vacation!

Alexandra is a wonderful dog sitter. She really cares about the animals. Her mantra is safety first. I can now go on vacation and know that my pet will be safe and loved. Alexandra has been a life saver and a life changer as I used to hate to go anywhere knowing I would have to leave my dog. Finding a trustworthy sitter was always a problem. But not anymore. My pet is always happy to see her and that tells it all. I know my dog is well treated and cared for. I can now leave her with a peace of mind. I also really appreciate Alexandra’s professionalism and trustworthiness. She is also punctual.

Jo stayed with our pets - dog and cat - while we were away. The pets were happy when we returned and the house was in better shape than we left it. I plan to ask Jo to take care of the pets and house when I have to travel again. I highly recommend her to anyone needing a house/pet sitter.

I would highly recommend Mira Greenwald as a trusted and reliable Dog walker/ Pet sitter. Mira and I have been neighbors for many years. As a busy professional I was always looking for a person who I could count on not just to walk my Dogs (Ko Ko and Rick James ) but to also show them kindness and affection and also I had to know that I could trust a person with access to my home. Mira has been a lifesaver! She always arrives when agreed rain or shine! You can count on her and your pets will love her as much as you will!

My babies (dogs) mean everything to me. They are part of the family and I could not ask for a better caretaker than Samantha. She is flexible, always on time and takes very good care of my pets. They cannot wait for her to come over and just saying her name sends them to the front door looking for her. When I am away I do not worry about them when Sam is there! I have had other sitters in the past and I can truly say Sam's level of care and commitment to my babies is above and well beyond any other services I have used! I have recommended Sam to neighbors and friends and I would not hesitate to call and intrust Sam with your extended family!

Elektra Grant cared for my 15-year-old cat, Miss Chimples, for 6 days and nights, living on site in my house and making sure that this aging animal had what she needed while I was away. The general requirement was that Elektra keep the cat's water and food fresh and stay in the house overnight, also spending a little time during the day engaging with the cat if that seemed to be what the cat wanted. Miss C was always a shy animal so, whereas she wasn't terribly receptive to strangers, she also didn't like to be left for days alone with a bowl of food and water. Elektra was extremely sensitive to both her disposition and health needs. She asked me many, many important questions and listened to all my answers and instructions. I already knew Elektra to be a conscientious, punctual, and measured person. I felt so much more secure about my pet's comfort and safety knowing she had a responsible live-in companion, vs. someone who might stop in only once a day. Since Miss C's kidneys were in decline, I worried about the extra stress. Elektra impressed me immediately as someone who was committed to putting my pet's needs first for the duration of her stay. This was especially important because for part of my trip I would not be easily reached by phone. I didn't worry, though, while we were out of contact because Elektra was such a reassuring presence. When I returned, I found the cat calm and healthy, and the litter box immaculate. This was very important because previous pet sitters had let that chore slide, upsetting Miss Chimples (and me!). Into the bargain, Elektra left my house even cleaner than she found it, which was NOT at all a requirement of the job. I live in an old house with quirks and "character," and I appreciated coming home and being able to get right back to my life without any evidence that things had gone awry in my absence. Elektra had paid close attention to my explanations about the house's idiosyncrasies, too, so I felt very sure that both my pet and my property had been in good hands. Elektra's best quality as a pet sitter is that she's a seasoned professional, yet she makes no assumptions about each individual pet and really listens carefully to what its owner wants and needs, too. That may be the main distinction between people who simply love animals and those whose love for them gives them an insight into their real needs and preferences. I highly recommend Elektra's services and would hire her again anytime for long- or short-term care of my pets.

Tara is one of the very few pet sitters I trust my pets with. Her conscientiousness and attention to detail is bar none. She treats my 2 dogs and 2 cats like the treasured family members that they are, and I truly have peace of mind when I am away and I know that they are in Tara's loving care. If you want exceptional pet care service and peace of mind, then Tara is the one to call!

Fran has been sitting my 2 chihuahuas for some time now when I travel or am away. They have been spoiled by me and it took me some time to find someone I was comfortable with when I moved here 2 years ago. I couldn't be happier. Fran takes care of them as if they were hers and she has built a strong connection with them. My stress level is way down and I travel with confidence that Fran is there. One of my pets needs medicine from time to time and this is not an issue for Fran. Actually Fran is great at learning the details of the routines and following them just as I would. This has built my confidence level with Fran and I give her top recommendation to anyone who needs a sitter and loves their pets... U won't be disappointed...

Sandra is a very trustworthy house and dog sitter. I have a very busy schedule and usually take my partner Coco everywhere I go, but sometimes I just have to leave her home. When Sandra takes care of her, I know she is in good hands. She plays with her, takes her on long walks and talks to her all the time. I can leave over the weekend knowing my house and best friend are in good hands. Coco is always very happy when she knows Sandra is coming over. Elke

Steve took care of my home, garden and pets for two weeks, and I have never felt more at ease on vacation knowing how well-cared for everything was. He checked in almost daily just to let me know all was well. When we got home, the house was clean, the garden was lush, and the cats were clearly well-loved!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
